Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Sage of Six Paths

[The Sharingan, one of the three great Dōjutsu of the Shinobi World, is the Kekkei Genkai possessed by the Uchiha clan—descendants of Indra, the eldest son of the Sage of Six Paths.]

These words alone exploded like a thunderclap in the ears of people across all timelines of the Shinobi World!

The Sage of Six Paths!

The legendary figure who created the Shinobi World, founded the Shinobi Sect, and was revered by later generations as the progenitor of all Shinobis—he truly existed! He wasn't just a figure from mythology!

Not only that, but he had children, and apparently more than one. If there was an eldest son, there must certainly be a second son, and perhaps even a third, a fourth, and so on.

Even more astonishing—the Uchiha clan were descendants of the Sage of Six Paths' eldest son!

This bloodline, this heritage… it was simply incredible! No wonder the Sky Screen said no one could refuse it!

No wonder it had said earlier that no one would turn down a pair of Sharingan. It turned out that behind those eyes flowed the blood of the Sage of Six Paths!

[Konoha, Year One]

Konoha village, banks of the Naka River.

Madara stood by the riverbank, looking at the Sky Screen, frowning slightly.

The Uchiha had such an ancient lineage, yet he, as the clan head, hadn't known?

That was impossible.

Unless… Madara suddenly recalled something.

Beneath the Naka Shrine, there was a stone tablet with no visible writing on it, yet it was said to record the secrets of the Uchiha. He had never had time to look into it before, having only occasionally heard the clan elders mention it.

Now it seemed he would have to study it seriously.

Indra, the eldest son of the Sage of Six Paths… what a grand title!

Madara silently recited the name, a gleam flashing in his eyes. He turned and looked toward Hashirama, not far away.

"Hashirama."

"Hmm?" Hashirama turned to look at him.

"You Senju… wouldn't happen to be descendants of the Sage of Six Paths too, would you?"

Hashirama paused for a moment, then scratched his head: "I don't know about that either. Probably… not?"

---

[Konoha, Year 52]

Fugaku and his group were absolutely overjoyed.

"The Uchiha are descendants of Indra, the eldest son of the Sage of Six Paths!"

Countless Uchiha pumped their fists, their faces flushed with excitement.

"What are the Senju? What are the Hyūga? The Uchiha are descendants of the Sage of Six Paths! Are they even worthy of being compared to us?!"

The entire clan grounds were in a state of celebration.

Descendants of Indra, the eldest son of the Sage of Six Paths… this heritage was enormous.

So enormous that it could overshadow anyone.

[Konoha, Year 83]

The Seventh Hokage, Naruto, sat on his balcony, one arm around his son Boruto and the other around his daughter Himawari.

The two children looked up, their eyes full of curiosity.

"Dad, did the Sage of Six Paths really exist?" Himawari asked.

Naruto smiled: "Of course he exists."

"I've even met him. He's a very kind old man."

Boruto's eyes widened: "Really? You've met the Sage of Six Paths?"

"Mm." Naruto nodded.

"Back then, I was in a lot of trouble, and he was the one who helped me."

He paused for a moment, looking at the Sky Screen.

"I suspect even now, he's somewhere in the world, quietly watching over us."

Boruto and Himawari exchanged glances, both seeing the awe in each other's eyes.

The Sage of Six Paths… truly existed.

And their dad had met him!

"Dad is so amazing!" Himawari said proudly.

Naruto smiled and ruffled her hair: "You'll have a chance too, someday. As long as you train hard, maybe you'll meet him too."

The two children nodded vigorously.

[When an Uchiha loses the love that is important to them, or suffers anguish over their own failure, special chakra surges into their brain and acts upon the optic nerves, causing a strange transformation in their eyes. These are the eyes that reflect the heart—the Sharingan!]

The Sky Screen continued; this time, it was about the awakening principle of the Sharingan.

Everyone in the Shinobi World listened intently.

Losing important love… experiencing anguish… eyes that reflect the heart…

So that was how the Sharingan awakened. No wonder the Uchiha were so prone to extreme emotions.

[Because the Uchiha possess such intense love, those who awaken the Sharingan can grow rapidly stronger but are also highly prone to going berserk. On this point, I believe Senju Tobirama—an expert on Uchiha research—has considerable authority to speak.]

The Sky Screen's voice carried a hint of teasing:

[Isn't that right, you evil Uchiha?]

---

[Konoha, Year 20]

Slander! The Sky Screen was slandering him!

Tobirama sat in the Hokage office with his six disciples, watching the Sky Screen together—particularly Hiruzen, whom he intended to properly instruct about future matters.

But he hadn't expected the Sky Screen to pull something like this.

What did it mean by "expert on Uchiha research"? He wasn't conducting research—he was taking precautions, working for the safety of Konoha!

But Tobirama's gaze unconsciously drifted toward Uchiha Kagami, who sat off to the side with an expressionless face.

Kagami's face remained calm, as if he hadn't heard anything. But what his true inner thoughts were, perhaps no one would ever know.

In truth, Tobirama's bias against the Uchiha was something Kagami had always been aware of.

Even though his teacher treated him fairly—teaching him what needed to be taught, disciplining him when necessary, never treating him differently just because he was an Uchiha—that deep-seated distrust of other Uchiha couldn't be hidden.

Kagami recalled a joke he had heard before: when a female dog in the village got pregnant, Tobirama would first assume an Uchiha was responsible.

At the time, he had found it funny.

Now, looking back, it was somewhat heartbreaking.

---

[Konoha, Year 1]

By the Naka River.

"Tobirama!!!"

Madara's roar echoed across the riverbank, his chakra surging wildly, even the pebbles beneath his feet were trembling slightly.

"You really—!!"

Hashirama quickly stepped forward to stop him.

"Madara! Calm down! Calm down!"

"How can I be calm?!" Madara shook off his hand.

"Listen to what your brother thinks! What does he take us Uchiha for?!"

Hashirama scratched his head awkwardly.

"This... Tobirama's just like that. He's wary of everyone…"

"Wary of everyone?"

Madara sneered, "He's targeting the Uchiha! From the very first day the village was founded, he's had it in for us!"

"I'll talk to Tobirama."

Hashirama finally said. "I'll make him change his views on the Uchiha."

[T/N: Yeah good luck with that.]
