Chapter 4 - Chapter IV-"When Everyone Arrives Too Late"

The father closed his eyes.

His shoulders sank—just slightly.

As if something inside him had finally given in.

"…An accident."

The words were quiet.

Empty.

But they stayed.

In the corner of the room, Mari stood unmoving.

She hadn't said a word.

Not since they arrived.

Her eyes remained fixed on Sunny.

Her expression unreadable.

But her hands—

slowly tightening at her sides—

told everything she could not say

Kel arrived first.

His steps were fast, almost careless, as if he had rushed without thinking. His breathing was uneven, his eyes wide with worry that hadn't yet turned into understanding.

"Please don't run at the hallway"

A nurse says

But he didn't even flinch.

Behind him, Aubrey walked in slower.

Her arms were crossed tightly, her expression tense, like she was already bracing herself for something she didn't want to see.

And just a few steps behind—

Basil.

Quiet.

Nervous.

His hands clutched the strap of his bag, knuckles pale, as if he needed something to hold onto.

They stopped in front of the door.

No one reached for it immediately.

The air felt heavier here.

Like something waited on the other side.

Kel looked at Hero.

"…Is it true?"

His voice was lower now.

"…Yeah."

That was all it took

Kel froze.

"…No."

It came out weak.

Like he didn't believe the word himself.

Aubrey's expression tightened.

Her eyes shifted away from the door, toward the floor, as if refusing to face what was inside.

"That's not funny."

Her voice was sharp—but unsteady.

"You're joking… right?"

Hero didn't respond.

Kel pushed the door open.

Not forcefully.

But without waiting.

The others followed.

Kel took a step forward.

Then another.

Then he stopped.

His hands slowly clenched.

"…Wake up."

No response.

"…Come on, this isn't funny."

His voice cracked.

But nothing changed.

Kel turned his head to sunny father.

"It's just a prank right?"

His voice cracksd more, and tears stream down his face

"I hope"

Sunny father says, his voice crack but he stays calm.

Aubrey stood near the doorway.

She didn't move closer.

Her eyes stayed fixed on Sunny—but there was distance in them.

Like she was watching something she refused to accept.

Her jaw tightened.

Her hands curled into fists.

"…This doesn't make sense."

Basil didn't step forward at all.

He stayed near the back.

Frozen.

His eyes wide, filled with something fragile—like one wrong movement would shatter everything completely.

His lips trembled slightly.

But no sound came out.
