Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

*The sky on the horizon had begun to bleed from a deep, starless black to a soft, watery grey, the first signs of dawn creeping over the world. The cool air, once a refreshing contrast, now bit at their bare skin, raising goosebumps across their arms and shoulders.*

*With a final, lingering glance at the now-pale moon, they scrambled to their feet, a fit of giggles escaping them as they stumbled back towards the cave, their bare feet slapping against the damp sand.*

*Inside the cave, the air was still and cool, a welcome relief. The bed of moss and soft furs was a tempting sight. Nathan, his movements still a little unsteady from exhaustion, took a running leap for the bed and promptly face-planted onto the soft surface with a soft 'oof.' He landed with a thud, and in his fall, he instinctively grabbed onto her wrist, pulling her down on top of him in a tangled heap of limbs and laughter.*

*They landed in a heap of tangled limbs and breathless giggles, the soft moss cushioning their fall. The laughter slowly subsided, replaced by the comfortable rhythm of their breathing in the quiet cave. The last vestiges of their energy had been spent, leaving a profound sense of peace and contentment in its wake.*

*He shifted slightly, adjusting her so she was lying more comfortably on his chest, his arms wrapping securely around her waist. One hand came up to gently stroke her hair, his fingers combing through the silken strands in slow, soothing motions. The gesture was tender and absent-minded, a simple act of affection that spoke volumes.*

*Exhaustion, deep and bone-deep, claimed them. The gentle stroking of her head, the steady beat of his heart beneath her ear, the cool, quiet air of the cave—it all wove together into a lullaby. Their eyes grew heavy, and within minutes, their breathing evened out, slipping into the deep, peaceful oblivion of sleep, still wrapped in each other's arms.*
