Chapter 10 - Chapter 10

The System didn't announce its next move.

It never did.

Moonfall Station remained intact through the night, its glyphs steady, its Heart Core pulsing with quiet vigilance. But Kael felt the shift long before dawn—a subtle distortion in the flow of mana beyond the territory's edge, like a current changing direction beneath still water.

Something was being prepared.

He stood alone near the boundary, eyes tracing the faint shimmer where Moonfall Station ended and the world resumed its normal rules. The Law of the Hunt stretched outward, brushing against distant presences. It returned impressions layered with intent—coordination, calculation, restraint.

Not Iron Veil.

Something else.

Mira joined him, her expression tight. "The System's rerouting resources," she said. "Not just mana. Event flags. Spawn probabilities. It's… shaping something."

Kael nodded. "A forced response."

Juno approached from the platform, blades sheathed but posture alert. "Let me guess. Something big."

"Something precise," Kael replied.

Darius frowned. "That's worse."

The Heart Core pulsed harder, its rhythm syncing with Kael's heartbeat. He closed his eyes, letting the Law guide his awareness. The territory responded, feeding him fragments—locations lighting up on an invisible map, threads of influence converging.

A focal point formed.

Not here.

Nearby.

"An event's being seeded," Kael said. "Outside the territory."

Mira's eyes widened. "They're trying to draw us out."

"Yes."

"And if we don't go?" Juno asked.

Kael opened his eyes. "Then it comes to us."

The station shuddered faintly, as if in agreement.

Kael opened his interface.

A new notification pulsed at the top of the screen, its text stark and unmistakable.

[System Event Initiated: Aberrant Emergence.][Location: Old District – Sector 3.][Threat Level: Escalating.]

Mira swore softly. "That's close."

"Too close," Darius said.

Kael studied the event parameters. The System wasn't subtle about this one. The emergence was flagged as unstable, its threat level designed to scale rapidly if left unchecked. Civilian zones. High visibility. Maximum pressure.

"They want witnesses," Kael said.

Juno grinned. "Then let's give them a show."

Kael shook his head. "Not yet."

He turned back to the Heart Core, placing his hand against the wall. The scar on his arm burned faintly, responding to the territory's pulse.

"We don't rush," he said. "We choose the ground."

Mira hesitated. "If we let it escalate—"

"It'll force the System to commit more resources," Kael finished. "Expose more of its hand."

Silence fell as they considered it.

Finally, Darius nodded. "Risky."

"Yes," Kael agreed. "But controlled."

The Law of the Hunt stirred, its presence sharpening. It didn't like the idea of prey being placed beyond its reach—but it understood strategy. It adapted, stretching its influence subtly toward the event's location, testing the boundaries of its authority.

Kael felt resistance.

Then… a give.

The Law didn't extend fully—but it marked the area, faintly, like a scent carried on the wind.

Kael smiled.

"Prep," he said. "We move when it peaks."

Mira exhaled slowly. "You're planning to hijack a System event."

Kael met her gaze. "I'm planning to redefine it."

Outside Moonfall Station, the Old District stirred.

Mana surged.

Reality thinned.

And something began to claw its way into the world—shaped not by chance, but by intent.

The System had made its move.

Now it was Kael's turn.
