Chapter 27 - Chapter 27 Cracks in the Steel Barrier

The Champions League semi-final draw, as if by fate, has once again placed Manchester United and Chelsea before each other. The afterglow of their decisive league match has barely faded, and now they clash again on Europe's highest stage – a series destined to be historic.

First round, Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho's team showcased their football philosophy to the fullest. From the very first minute, Chelsea erected a blue steel wall—tight, organized, and incredibly pressing. The midfield barrier formed by Makelele and Lampard virtually cut off all of Manchester United's forward runs.Cristiano Ronaldo was once again entangled in a battle with Gallas on the right flank, but this time, Chelsea's overall defensive coordination was even better; every touch he made seemed to leave him stuck in a quagmire.

Throughout the first half, Manchester United's attacks were more bark than bite, failing to create any clear-cut chances.Chelsea, on the other hand, capitalized on Drogba's hold-up play and Robben's sharp runs down the left flank, threatening United's goal several times. The atmosphere was oppressively tense.

During halftime, Ferguson's expression was unusually grim.

"They're wearing us down! They're waiting for us to make mistakes!" The Jazz slammed their clipboard."We need to be more patient!Move the ball around, get them moving!Cristiano, reduce the physical contact on the wings, switch positions with Wayne (Rooney) more often, and attack their flanks!"

In the second half, Ronaldo made changes. He no longer stayed on the right wing and began to frequently move towards the center, even switching positions with Giggs on the left. His off-the-ball movement became more elusive, trying to find fleeting gaps in Chelsea's tight defensive system.

However, Chelsea's defensive discipline was truly astonishing.Time ticked away with each unsuccessful attack, and the score remained 0-0.The Chelsea fans in the stands sang louder and louder, filled with the triumphant joy of victory in sight.

Just when everyone thought the match would end in a draw, in the 89th minute, Manchester United were awarded a free kick on the left side of the attacking third, more than 30 meters from the goal. The position was far off, not an ideal option for a direct shot.

Giggs and Ronaldo both stood in front of the ball.Giggs prepared to take the penalty kick, intending to pass the ball into the penalty area to create chaos.

But Ronaldo stopped him.

"Ryan," his voice was unusually clear in the noisy stadium, his eyes burning with an almost obsessive confidence, "let me handle this."

Giggs looked at him and saw the unwavering determination in his eyes.He hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded and stepped back.

A deafening chorus of boos erupted throughout Stamford Bridge, an attempt to sway the audacious young man.Mourinho stood on the sidelines, arms crossed, expressionless.

The run-up was precise and powerful.

He takes the shot! Not a curve, but his signature "tomahawk" shot—his body leans extremely forward, and he strikes the lower half of the ball with the instep of his foot!

Like a beast freed from its shackles, the ball roared up from the ground, soaring over the wall of players with astonishing initial speed. After reaching its highest point, it began to plummet violently, carrying the aura of death, crashing straight into the upper right corner of the goal!

Cech made a world-class save; his fingertips almost touched the ball! But the ball was too fast and too powerful! It slammed against the underside of the crossbar and bounced into the net!

"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL!Cristiano Ronaldo! In the final moments of the match! An unbelievable free kick!He broke the deadlock!Manchester United have secured a valuable away goal and victory at Stamford Bridge!" The commentator went completely wild.

After scoring, Ronaldo did not celebrate. He simply stood there, clenching his fists, his gaze sweeping across the silent Stamford Bridge stands, before briefly meeting Mourinho's shocked look from the sidelines.

Cracks have quietly spread across that seemingly impenetrable steel barrier
