Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Light!

The pinnacle of all elements!

Using light for Maker Magic shared some traits with molding ice, water, or fire, but the differences were far more profound. At least in Night's opinion, his Light-Make definitely did not fall under the category of Ancient or Lost Magic. Furthermore, Light-Make was far from the only thing he was capable of.

Tenrou Island.

The forest in the very heart of the island.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The howl of a hurricane wind echoed between the mighty trunks of ancient trees. Green silhouettes flickered swiftly through the air, but darting ahead of them was a golden flash. In the blink of an eye, this golden ray covered several dozen meters and landed on a thick branch, revealing its true form.

Strands of black hair fell lightly over his eyebrows; his facial features were refined yet defined by sharp, masculine lines. His eyes, dark as the ocean's abyss, held a clear and piercing gaze. A single glance at this young man was enough to instantly draw anyone to him.

This person was Night, honing his skills on the island. Exactly twelve years had passed since his reincarnation into this world. And, as Mavis had told him, the year was 777! That very year which held colossal significance in the history of Fairy Tail.

Traces of that adorable little boy could still be seen in the twelve-year-old Night, but he had now grown into an incredibly handsome young man. Even without taking his magical power into account, with such looks, he could easily conquer this world.

Clad in moon-white garments, Night calmly watched the approaching avalanche of green shadows. These were the Green Wind Wolves—some of the magical beasts inhabiting Tenrou Island.

Wolves are pack animals, and judging by their numbers, the entire pack had come out to hunt, down to the last pup. The eyes of every beast were bloodshot: the predators were furious. And the culprit behind this display of fury was, of course, Night, standing serenely on his branch!

Grrr! Awooo!

The pack of Green Wind Wolves closed in on Night. Upon spotting their target, the beasts went completely berserk. The crimson light in their eyes flared with renewed vigor, and the forest echoed with a deafening howl. In the next instant, they opened their toothy maws, within which green magic seals began to glow. A barrage of wind blades hurtled toward the young man—the innate magic of the Green Wind Wolves. Such a massive quantity of wind blades could easily wipe this part of the forest off the face of the earth. However, Night, who had become their primary target, remained absolutely composed.

"Light Arrow!"

Night lightly snapped his fingers. A golden magic seal flared at his fingertips, and dozens of golden arrows materialized out of thin air before him, shooting toward the enemy at incredible speed.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The golden arrows effortlessly pierced straight through the wind blades and, without losing a fraction of their speed, rained down on the pack. But just a split second before the lethal light could end the beasts' lives, Night quietly commanded:

"Halt!"

No sooner said than done! The golden arrows froze mere inches from the foreheads of the Green Wind Wolves, sparing their precious lives.

"Dispel!" came another quiet command, and the golden arrows dissolved into the air as if they had never existed.

"Now get out of here!" Night glared at the pack. A threat flashed in his eyes, and at this authoritative shout, the wolves tucked their tails between their legs in sheer terror. They turned around and bolted away at a speed far exceeding the one they had attacked with. Not a trace of their former ferocity remained.

"Sigh, this is getting more and more boring," Night exhaled, leaning his back against the tree trunk and watching the fleeing pack. Clearly, these wolves no longer held any interest for him.

"Alright, I'd better go see Mavis!" Night gave a satisfying stretch, rolling his shoulders, and mentally chanted: "Wings of Light!"

A golden magic seal flared behind his back, unfurling into a pair of magnificent wings woven from pure light. With a powerful flap, Night soared from the branch into the sky, turning into a golden comet streaking toward the giant tree at the center of the island.

"Night, you're back!" Mavis greeted him with a smile, watching him descend from the heavens.

"Mavis!" Night smiled back, landing right in front of her. However, he was no longer that tiny boy: he had already outgrown Mavis, who had remained in the form of a petite girl.

"Mavis, are there any stronger creatures on this island? Those Green Wind Wolves are completely useless!" Night shrugged, recalling today's skirmish.

"Oh, you! You've already defeated every creature on my island, where would anyone stronger come from? The strongest one here is you!" Mavis looked at Night with amusement, though deep pride could be read in her eyes. In the beginning, the local beasts had indeed served as good practice for him, but as his power grew, they became far too weak.

After all, Tenrou Island was the sacred ground of the Fairy Tail guild and the place of her eternal rest. It was a picturesque paradise, not a breeding ground for powerful monsters.

Tenrou Island is too small for him. Night shouldn't be stuck here keeping a lonely ghost company. It's time for him to venture into the outside world and see how beautiful and wondrous it is! Mavis thought with a tinge of sadness. She looked at him with boundless affection and... a slight melancholy. She had watched him grow up. For these past twelve years, Night had been by her side every single day, giving her countless moments of joy. It had been the happiest time of her entire stay on the island.

Even though Night had never brought it up, she could sense that he yearned to see the world beyond the island. And he likely kept quiet because he didn't want to part with her either...

"Night!" Mavis called out suddenly.

"Hmm? What is it?"

"Do you want to learn a more powerful magic?!"

"Of course I do!"

"Then tomorrow, I will teach you!" Mavis's eyes crinkled happily as she looked at Night. This spell should be the perfect Super Magic just for him!

"Awesome!" Night didn't notice the slight shift in Mavis's tone. He was too thrilled by the prospect of learning new magic. Until now, he had developed most of his spells himself, with Mavis merely guiding him. And since she had personally offered to teach him something more powerful, how could he not be overjoyed?!

A more powerful magic?! What could it possibly be?!

He couldn't wait to find out!
