Ava rushed back to Kai, her mind racing. "It's Lilith, your cousin. She's after the throne."
Kai's eyes narrowed. "Lilith's been pushing for power, but she'd never risk treason."
Ava's gut said otherwise. "She threatened me."
The coronation loomed – days away. Kai threw himself into preparations, but tension simmered. Ava focused on the people's project, avoiding palace politics.
At a beach event, Lilith appeared, poised. "Princess, lovely to see you outside the palace."
Ava smiled sweetly. "You're wasting your time."
Lilith leaned in. "The people will see the truth. You're not royal."
Rumors flared – Ava's mom's past resurfaced. The palace buzzed. Kai stood firm, but doubt crept in.
Ava confronted Lilith. "You're behind this."
Lilith shrugged, innocent. "I'm just protecting the throne."
The councilors called an emergency meeting. "Ava's past could harm Kai's rule. A decision's needed."
Kai took Ava's hand. "I choose her. End of discussion."
But Lilith dropped a bombshell: "The king's condition worsens. He'll name his successor… tonight."
The palace froze. Ava felt the ground shift.
Kai pulled her close. "Whatever happens, we face it."
The king's chambers were somber. He lay pale, whispering, "Kai… protect the throne… and…"
He beckoned Ava closer. "You… protect him."
