Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 ~ The Girl Who Walked Into the Devil’s City

[She came to the city to disappear.

A new name. A new life. A new identity.

But someone already knows who she is.

When her phone buzzes with a message from an unknown number, she casually replies:

"Wrong number."

The reply freezes her blood.

"No… Luna Vale."

She changed everything about herself.

So how does someone still know her real name?

In a city full of secrets and sins…

Will Luna survive? ]

Rain poured over the city like it was trying to wash away its sins.

But Nocturne was a city that never cleaned itself.

Neon lights flickered against wet streets, painting the asphalt with shades of violet, red, and electric blue. The sound of distant sirens mixed with loud music pouring from nightclubs that never closed.

People here didn't sleep.

They survived.

A bus door opened with a tired hiss.

Luna Vale stepped down onto the sidewalk.

Cold rain kissed her skin instantly, soaking the loose strands of black hair framing her pale face. She didn't flinch.

She had been through worse storms.

In one hand, she held a small suitcase. Everything she owned fit inside it.

Everything she used to be… did not.

The bus behind her pulled away slowly, disappearing down the glowing street.

For the first time in hours, Luna allowed herself to breathe.

"So this is Nocturne," she murmured.

The city stretched endlessly before her, tall buildings stabbing into the dark sky like black knives.

Perfect place to disappear.

Luna slipped her hands into the pockets of her long coat and started walking.

Her boots splashed softly through shallow puddles while her sharp silver-gray eyes scanned every corner of the street.

Habit.

Trust no one.

Notice everything.

Those rules had kept her alive.

A loud motorcycle roared past her, the rider laughing as he sped through a red light. Across the road, a group of men argued loudly outside a bar.

Nocturne wasn't a safe city.

But Luna hadn't come here for safety.

She had come here because no one asked questions.

After a few minutes, she stopped beneath a flickering streetlamp and pulled out her phone.

The screen lit up.

A notification appeared.

Unknown Number

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

Slowly, she opened the message.

Welcome to Nocturne.

Her expression didn't change.

But her fingers froze for half a second.

No one should know she was here.

She had changed her identity, her travel route, even the bus ticket had been bought under another name.

Yet somehow…

Someone knew.

Luna typed a short reply.

Wrong number.

The answer arrived instantly.

No, Luna Vale. Definitely the right one.

For the first time that night, a tiny crack appeared in her calm.

Her heartbeat quickened once.

Just once.

Then it steadied again.

Luna stared at the message for a few seconds before typing again.

Who is this?

But the message failed to deliver.

The number had already disappeared.

Disconnected.

"Wonderful," Luna muttered quietly.

She slid the phone back into her pocket.

Someone was watching.

She could feel it now.

The city suddenly felt heavier… like invisible eyes were following her steps.

Still, Luna continued walking.

Running wasn't her style.

---

Fifteen minutes later, she arrived at a modest apartment building.

Nothing fancy.

Old brick walls. Dim yellow lights above the entrance. A small sign reading Raven Heights Apartments.

Exactly the kind of place people forgot existed.

Luna pushed the door open and stepped inside.

The lobby smelled faintly of coffee and old carpet.

Behind a wooden desk sat a security guard with gray hair and reading glasses.

He looked up lazily.

"New tenant?"

"Yes."

"Name?"

Luna paused for a fraction of a second.

Then she smiled politely.

"Luna Hart."

The lie came out smoothly.

The guard checked a clipboard and nodded.

"Room 304."

He handed her a key.

"Elevator's broken," he added. "Stairs are on the left."

"Thank you."

Luna took the key and walked toward the staircase.

Each step echoed softly as she climbed.

Second floor.

Third floor.

Apartment 304 waited at the end of the hallway.

She unlocked the door and stepped inside.

The room was small but clean.

A bed.

A desk.

A narrow kitchen.

And a large window overlooking the city.

Luna placed her suitcase on the floor and walked to the window.

Nocturne glowed beneath the rain.

From up here, the city looked beautiful.

Almost innocent.

But Luna knew better.

Cities like this didn't shine because they were pure.

They shined because darkness loved the spotlight.

---

Across the city…

Inside the most powerful nightclub in Nocturne.

Obsidian.

Music thundered through the building as hundreds of people danced beneath flashing lights.

But above the main floor, hidden behind tinted glass walls, the VIP lounge was silent.

Brevis Draven sat in a black leather chair.

His posture was relaxed, but the atmosphere around him was heavy enough to suffocate anyone nearby.

Power followed him like a shadow.

Several men stood a few feet away, careful not to disturb him.

Brevis watched the crowd below with dark, unreadable eyes.

They looked like ants from up here.

Small. Replaceable.

A man approached cautiously.

"Sir."

Brevis didn't turn.

"Yes?"

"The girl arrived."

Now Brevis shifted slightly.

Interest flickered across his face.

"So soon?"

"Yes."

The man handed him a tablet.

A photo filled the screen.

A girl standing under a streetlamp in the rain.

Black hair. Pale skin.

Silver-gray eyes.

Luna Vale.

Brevis studied the image carefully.

His gaze lingered on her face.

Not fear.

Not confusion.

Just calm observation.

Interesting.

Most people entering Nocturne looked nervous.

She didn't.

Brevis leaned back in his chair.

"The ghost finally walked into my city."

The man beside him shifted uncomfortably.

"You want us to bring her here?"

Brevis shook his head slowly.

"No."

His lips curved into a faint smile.

"That would ruin the fun."

He zoomed into the photo slightly.

Those eyes.

Cold. Intelligent.

Dangerous in a quiet way.

"Watch her," Brevis said.

"And if someone bothers her?"

Brevis's voice turned icy.

"Break their hands."

"Yes, sir."

The man quickly stepped away.

Brevis stood and walked toward the balcony overlooking the club.

The music below pounded like a heartbeat.

But his thoughts were elsewhere.

On a girl who had just entered his world.

Luna Vale.

A name that had appeared in whispers months ago.

A ghost moving through cities, leaving trouble behind.

Brevis had been curious then.

Now she had walked directly into his territory.

A slow smile spread across his face.

"Let's see who you really are."

---

Meanwhile…

Apartment 304.

Luna lay on her bed staring at the ceiling.

Sleep refused to come.

The city noise drifted through the window—cars, distant laughter, music vibrating through the night.

Something about this place felt strange.

Like the city itself was awake.

Watching.

Her phone buzzed suddenly.

Unknown number.

Again.

Luna answered slowly.

"Hello?"

Silence greeted her.

Then a voice spoke.

Deep.

Smooth.

Dangerous.

"Welcome to my city, Luna."

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

"And you are?"

A quiet chuckle echoed through the phone.

"Someone you'll meet soon."

Luna sat up.

"I prefer meeting people who introduce themselves."

Another pause.

Then the man spoke two words.

"Brevis Draven."

Luna went completely still.

Even she knew that name.

Crime lord.

Shadow ruler.

The devil of Nocturne.

But when she spoke again…

Her voice remained calm.

"Should I be impressed?"

On the other side of the line, Brevis went silent.

Then he laughed.

A low, dark sound.

"No one has ever said that to me before."

"Well," Luna replied casually, "there's a first time for everything."

A strange tension filled the call.

Finally Brevis spoke again.

"Careful, Luna."

"Why?"

"Because curiosity is dangerous."

Luna stood and walked toward the window.

Lightning flashed across the sky, illuminating the city.

"I'm not curious," she said softly.

"I'm just not scared of you."

Another silence.

Longer this time.

Then Brevis whispered something that made the air feel colder.

"Everyone fears me eventually."

The call ended.

Luna lowered the phone slowly.

Outside, thunder rolled across the sky.

Her reflection stared back from the glass.

Calm.

Unshaken.

But somewhere deep inside…

She felt the shift.

Because tonight she had attracted the attention of the most dangerous man in Nocturne.

Brevis Draven.

And neither of them knew yet—

That this meeting would ignite something far more dangerous than fear.

Obsession.

Desire.

And a darkness neither of them could escape.
