Damn it, I already said I didn't want to go there anymore because it's so far š„²
"My apologies, but the one assigned to deliver the prince's dinner still cannot move, so you will have to do it again, Rahina."
My mind was throwing a tantrum, but what could I even do? Nothing, right?
Did I even agree to this?!
Ugh, so annoying! Annoying! Annoying!
What I hate the most is the distance. It feels like I walked a whole kilometer from the entrance just to reach his room.
"Yes, I will take care of it." I forced a poker face, but deep inside, I was irritated.
Here we go again⦠heading once more to the prince's chamber.
When I reached the door, I knocked three timesāone, two, three. I didn't wait for a response since it was the same as yesterday. No one answered back then either; we just knocked and entered.
When I stepped inside, I didn't see anyone. Maybe he was in the bathroom or somewhere else in the room, perhaps near the tall bookshelves. This place feels more like a library than a bedroom.
After setting the food down, I didn't leave right away. I walked slowly, examining the neatly arranged books one by one.
"Wow⦠I can actually understand what's written here even though the letters look like spaghetti wires," I whispered to myself.
"Do you also have an interest in reading, miss?"
Holy! what the hell?! When did he get beside me?!
"Ah... yes, I do, but only a little. Actually no. I'm not really into books. I only read when something catches my interest." Maybe he didn't quite understand what I said. Do they even use the term "into" here?
"Miss, what was that term you mentioned? I find myself unable to fully grasp the word you used."
Wait, I'm panicking. What's the proper word again?
"What I mean is, I'm not particularly devoted to books."
"I see. That is no problem. If any book catches your attention, you may borrow it. Just make sure to return it properly."
"Thank you very much, Your Highness." I avoided looking directly at him, keeping my gaze elsewhere. I could only make out his appearance through my peripheral vision, just like yesterday. Nothing new. "I will take my leave now."
Phew⦠his voice is so handsome, but there's this authoritarian aura around him. It makes me nervous, like if I make even a small mistake, I might be executed the next day. It's better to be careful and avoid doing anything wrong, especially since I'm still not familiar with this place.
After returning the trolley, I stepped outside for a moment. The sky was dark, with only the moon providing light.
"Ah⦠you are so near, yet so far." I raised my hand toward the moon, pretending to grasp it as if I could hold it.
"This is really happening, huh? I thought being transported to another world only happens in comics after you die. And now it's happening to me. I don't even miss my old life. Honestly, this is better. No pressure. Living life to the fullest, even if I'm poor, even without technology, even without friends, even without anything grand."
I paced in circles, talking to myself. After a while, I was about to head to sleep.
"Miss, why are you still outside?" a voice asked, startling me. I quickly turned to look at him. He was holding a lamp in his right hand. He was dressed like us⦠a worker, maybe.
"Ah, nothing, I was just getting some fresh air," I replied.
He directed the light of his lamp toward me, allowing me to see his face clearly. Wow⦠he's handsome. Sharp nose, semi-square face, a slight mustache. He was wearing a veil though, so I couldn't tell if his hair was long or not. And his lips⦠they looked...
"What the hell is wrong with me?" I suddenly slapped myself, realizing I had been staring.
"You should return to your quarters. Workers are not allowed to remain outside at this hour."
"Ah, yes. I'll go back now." I hurried away. What was that? A curfew?
Kaysan's POV
After finishing my meal, I changed into clothes similar to those of the workers so I could go out and walk around for a while. I carried my lamp as I stepped outside.
From a distance, I saw a figure, a woman talking to herself, walking in circles as if deep in thought.
"Miss, why are you still outside?" I asked as I approached her.
"Ah... nothing, I was just getting some fresh air," she replied.
I raised my lamp toward her direction. Ah⦠she was the one who delivered my meal earlier.
"You should return to your quarters. Workers are not allowed to remain outside at this hour," I told her. Perhaps she had forgotten the rules.
She responded and hurried back toward their sleeping quarters.
I continued walking and made my way to a small elevated space I often visit, a place that helps me fall asleep when sleepiness doesn't visit me immediately.
As I climbed up, I gazed at the large moon illuminating the entire sky. It was remarkably bright.
