Chapter 110 - Chapter 110: The Ember of Promise

[The Solitary Night]

The pale moonlight filtered through the towering wooden archway of the World Tree, casting long, serene shadows across the sanctuary floor.

Cynthia stood alone by the high window frame, her gaze fixed silently on the distant lunar glow suspended in the dark sky. Her shoulders trembled imperceptibly as the quiet weight of the night pressed down on her chest.

'First my father... then my mother... and now Ruta...' she thought, her inner voice echoing with a bitter, suffocating grief. 'Every time I swear to stand at the front... every time I swear to be the shield...'

The soft click of heavy boots sounded from the entrance of the chamber. Techyon stepped inside, the dim glow of his white-blue light illuminating the hallway. He didn't approach too quickly, stopping a few paces behind his sister as he looked at her solitary silhouette.

"You haven't rested, sis," Techyon said quietly, his tone devoid of its usual combat edge.

Cynthia didn't turn around, keeping her eyes locked on the cold moon. "How can I rest, Techyon? When I close my eyes, all I see is the Sword of Supernova. All I see is Ruta pushing me away."

Techyon took a deep, steady breath, his expression softening as he looked at her back. "Ruta didn't push you away because you were weak, Cynthia. He did it because he trusted you to finish what we started. None of us blame you. Not a single person out there."

"I blame myself," Cynthia whispered, her voice tightening. "If my solar flame had been stronger..."

Techyon walked up beside her, placing a firm, warm hand on her arm. "We all need to get stronger for what's coming. But you don't have to carry the whole galaxy on your own shoulders anymore. We're a team."

Cynthia remained silent, though her trembling slowed slightly under her brother's grip.

Techyon stepped back, turning toward the doorway to give her space. "When you get fine, you can come, sis. I am always with you."

[The Flame of Memory]

With those final words, Techyon turned and quietly left the room, his footsteps fading down the wooden corridor.

Left in the quiet solitude once more, Cynthia raised her right hand toward the open window, her fingers reaching out toward the distant moon as if trying to grasp its unreachable light.

"Am I really that weak...?" Cynthia muttered, her voice breaking into a solemn whisper. "Was this the third time I failed to save someone who was really close to me...?"

As her tears brimmed, a split-second flicker sparked at the tip of her index finger. A tiny, isolated orange ember began to burn, hovering softly above her skin.

Cynthia's breath caught. Gazing into the tiny spark, the translucent, smiling image of Ruta appeared within the heart of the ember. His final, confident words echoed clearly in her mind:

'Cynthia... you are even stronger than me.'

Right alongside his voice, the ancient, gentle words of her late parents resonated from the deepest corners of her memory:

'Because you are strong, Cynthia, you have to protect your brother and everyone.'

The tiny ember flared, its heat suddenly burning away the sorrow in her eyes, replaced by a sharp, unyielding resolve. Cynthia slowly closed her fingers into a tight, burning fist.

"Mother... Father... and Ruta..." Cynthia declared, her voice firm and resolute. "I will protect everyone."

The next morning, golden morning light filtered through the canopy of the World Tree, bathing the emerald sanctuary in a calm, radiant glow.

[The Vanguard Assembly]

Around the central roots, the squad gathered in a loose circle as Techyon finished adjusting his gear.

Captain Carod vented a gentle cloud of cool steam from his shoulders. "Techyon. How did things go last night? Did you manage to talk to Cynthia?"

Techyon nodded slowly, his posture relaxed for the first time in days. "She needed space, but she's grounded now. I left her with a reminder that we're in this together."

"That's a relief," Yoru said, leaning back against a golden root with her arms crossed. "A leader operating under heavy guilt is a liability on the battlefield. Glad to hear her head is clear."

Lapis adjusted his collar, his unique eyes glowing faintly. "The spatial pressure in the area feels different today too. Her inner mana flow seems to have stabilized."

"I was really worried about her," Fraxy murmured softly, holding her healing staff close. "Her spirit took such a heavy hit after Ruta's erasure."

Nefa tossed a small dagger in the air, catching it cleanly. "She's tough. A leader doesn't break that easily."

"Yeah," Saina added, tapping the frame of her star-glasses as her tactical drones ran diagnostics. "Her vital signatures and thermal output spikes overnight were back to peak combat levels."

"She's a fighter," Gaia said, crossing her arms over her rocky chest plate. "We all saw how much she gave on the Third Floor."

Neweland rested his trident against his shoulder with a small grin. "Well, whatever you said to her, Techyon, it clearly worked."

[The Pyro Arcon]

Footsteps echoed against the silver obsidian path leading into the sanctuary.

Cynthia stepped out into the open light. Her stride was firm, her posture absolute, and her solar crown flared with a pristine, unwavering flame. Sliding her dark sunglasses down over her eyes with a smooth flick of her wrist, she looked directly toward the group.

"I will become the new—"

"We know you can do it!" Neweland interrupted with a wide smile, thrusting his fist into the air. "You will become the new Arcon of Flames!"

Cynthia smirked, adjusting her glasses. "No... not Arcon of Flames. I will become the Pyro Arcon."

Gaia blinked, raising an eyebrow in surprise. "Is that okay? Using Pyro instead of Flame or Fire?"

The Archon of Life floated forward gracefully, her translucent emerald form shimmering with approval as a soft smile touched her lips. "There is no problem with that. A title is merely a vessel for the intent of the wielder."

"Pyro Arcon..." Yoru tested the title, a rare smile appearing on her face. "Sounds fitting for someone who controls solar starfire."

Captain Carod nodded heavily. "It carries your own identity rather than just copying what came before."

"I like it," Saina chirped, her digital interface logging the new designation. "It rates high on tactical presence!"

"It fits you perfectly, Cynthia," Fraxy said, smiling warmly.

"Pyro Arcon it is, then," Nefa grinned, leaning back.

"Though," Gaia pointed out, stepping up to the floating platform, "you still have to pass the trial first."

Cynthia's smirk turned into a sharp, confident line. "I know that."

She turned her attention completely toward the entity of life. "So... what is the test?"

The Archon of Life raised her glowing hands, her ethereal voice echoing through the chamber. "I am not testing you. The one who will test you... you can find him in another dimension."

With a sweep of her arm, the emerald roots split apart, opening a shimmering, swirling dimensional portal that burned with a faint, ancient starlight deep inside.

"You can find him there," the Archon of Life declared softly.
