Chapter 4: Firefly and Silver Wolf! A Grand Entrance!

Kafka, who had just recently rekindled old dreams with me and even conceived our child, had left to ensure a safe pregnancy.

This massive villa, in the blink of an eye, returned to its original emptiness and silence.

Sunlight streamed in through the enormous floor-to-ceiling windows, casting long beams of light onto the floor where dust motes danced slowly in the rays; everything felt somewhat unreal.

I slumped on the soft sofa in the living room, gripping a game controller, the screen filled with intense combat, yet my mind was elsewhere.

Kafka... the look in her eyes as she left, a mix of gentleness and slyness, saying she would leave me a "compensation."

What exactly was this compensation?

Some powerful weapon?

Lost fragments of memory?

Or... something else entirely?

My thoughts drifted uncontrollably, causing the character in the game to suffer heavy losses due to my poor inputs.

"Tsk." I clicked my tongue in annoyance. Just as I was about to focus and turn the game around, an abrupt doorbell pierced the villa's tranquility.

Ding-dong— Ding-dong—

The sound was crisp, echoing through the vast villa, sounding exceptionally clear.

I froze slightly, subconsciously putting down the controller.

Who would be visiting at this time?

My mind raced.

Ruan Mei and Kafka should both be resting peacefully to nurture their pregnancies; neither of them was the type to change plans easily, so they shouldn't be suddenly rushing back.

Big Herta? If she wanted to see me, she'd likely use a projection or send a puppet; ringing the doorbell in person didn't seem like her style, unless she had another "surprise" experiment to send my way?

Having ruled out several possibilities, my curiosity grew even stronger.

Who could it be? Could the "compensation" Kafka mentioned have arrived already?

I crawled off the sofa, shuffled into my slippers, and walked quickly toward the courtyard gate.

My footsteps made soft tap-tap sounds on the polished floor.

Reaching the door, I tidied my somewhat messy loungewear, took a deep breath, and—with a mix of confusion and a hint of imperceptible anticipation—grasped the handle and turned it.

The door opened.

Standing outside were two familiar and surprising faces—Firefly and Silver Wolf!

I blinked, ensuring I wasn't seeing things.

It really was them!

Silver Wolf was as energetic as ever, with her signature blue-streaked short hair, cropped jacket, and those eyes that seemed to see through everything, carrying a hint of playful cynicism.

The corners of her mouth curled up into a faint, mischievous smile as she spoke first: "Yo, little grey-hair, haven't seen you in a few days. So this is where you've been hiding to enjoy the easy life?"

Firefly stood behind Silver Wolf, appearing slightly more reserved.

She was still just as... endearing.

Her sleek, silver hair hung obediently over her shoulders, her exquisite features radiating a gentle temperament, and her light blue eyes, clear as water, looked at me with a touch of shyness.

She nodded at me gently, her voice soft and sweet: "Trailblazer, long time no see."

The sudden surprise left me momentarily unable to react, my brain feeling like it had stalled. I wanted to say something, but didn't know where to start.

Facing the sudden visit of two beautiful girls, I was speechless, standing dumbly at the door.

Seeing this, Silver Wolf raised an eyebrow, her tone carrying a hint of teasing: "What, are you stunned by the sight of beauties? Or are you not welcoming us?"

I snapped back to reality, realizing I was acting out of character. I hurriedly stepped aside, my face beaming as I enthusiastically said: "How could that be! Of course, welcome! Please, come in!" As I spoke, I hurriedly ushered them into the house.

In the living room, Silver Wolf sat on the sofa without any pretense, as naturally as if she had returned to her own home.

Firefly, however, seemed a bit self-conscious, sitting lightly on the edge of the sofa, hands folded on her lap, looking well-behaved and quiet.

I poured two glasses of water, handed them over, and sat down opposite them before asking: "Why have you come here so suddenly? Did... did Kafka send you?"

Silver Wolf took the glass, swirled it casually, and said nonchalantly: "Bingo! Correct. Consider yourself rewarded with... a look." She winked at me with a playful smirk, then continued, "That old woman Kafka told us everything that happened recently, including your... er, regained memories, and her... pregnancy." At the word "pregnancy," Silver Wolf's tone paused, seemingly finding it a bit surreal.

Firefly nodded gently and added: "Kafka said she needed time to rest peacefully, but was worried you might be lonely on your own, so she asked us to come keep you company." She looked up, her clear eyes meeting mine, and said earnestly: "We'll be staying here for a while, is that okay? If... if you feel it's inconvenient..."

"Convenient! Of course, it's convenient!" I hurriedly waved my hands, afraid they might misunderstand, speaking with excitement. "I'm thrilled that you're here! There are plenty of rooms; you can stay as long as you like!" Honestly, after the recent series of events, the villa becoming suddenly empty had made me feel a bit lost.

Firefly and Silver Wolf's arrival undoubtedly brought new vitality and warmth to me.

Seeing my enthusiasm, a faint smile appeared on Firefly's face, while Silver Wolf whistled and said: "That's good! I was just complaining about being bored; coming here is a nice change of pace." As she spoke, she stood up and scanned the room, curiously examining the villa's interior decor, "Tsk tsk, not bad, little grey-hair. I didn't expect you to be such a connoisseur; this place is decorated nicely, has a bit of a Xianzhou feel."

I smiled, stood up, and said to them: "Let's go, I'll take you for a tour of the villa so you can pick which room you'd like." The thought of living with two beautiful girls in this villa for a while made me feel relaxed and expectant.
