Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 Welcome to Sword Art Online

The world blinked around me as if reality itself had glitched. One moment I was consumed by a blinding, endless light, my senses overwhelmed and my body weightless, and the next I was falling—no, not falling, but being placed—gently yet suddenly into something solid. Darkness flickered at the edges of my vision before it was replaced by a warm, golden sunlight that filtered through leaves above me. My head spun, my stomach twisting violently as if it couldn't decide whether I was standing still or still being thrown across dimensions. I instinctively pressed my palms against the ground beneath me, gripping at the grass as if it were the only thing keeping me anchored to reality. Slowly, I opened my eyes, squinting against the brightness. The first thing I noticed was the smell—fresh grass, morning dew, and something faintly sweet, like unfamiliar flowers drifting in the breeze. I was lying under a massive tree, its branches stretching wide like a protective canopy, its leaves whispering softly as petals drifted down around me in slow, lazy spirals. It felt peaceful, almost too peaceful for someone who had just died and been thrown into another world.

My heart was still racing when I pushed myself upright, my hands trembling slightly as I took in my surroundings. The sky was impossibly blue, clearer than anything I had ever seen back in my old life. The air felt lighter, sharper, as if every breath carried more energy. Then, just as I began to gather my thoughts, something flickered in front of me. A translucent blue screen materialized inches from my face, glowing faintly like a hologram. I flinched, instinctively reaching out, but my fingers passed right through it. The screen pulsed once, and then words began to form.

"Welcome, Player: Johnrhey Castillo. Quest Log Initialized. Current World: Sword Art Online. Active Quests: Complete within 25 days. Objectives: Buy a new sword. Learn to craft different weapons. Help Asuna defeat a dungeon boss. Meet the Black Swordsman. Will you Proceed."I touch the yes button

My breath caught in my throat. Sword Art Online. I knew this world. I had watched it, followed its story, memorized its characters. A virtual reality game turned into a deadly trap where players fought to survive, where death in the game meant death in real life. But now I wasn't watching it from a screen. I was inside it. I was one of them. My pulse quickened, a strange mix of fear and excitement bubbling in my chest. This wasn't just a story anymore. This was my reality now. My first quest. My first test.

I stood up slowly, brushing off my clothes, only to freeze as I realized they weren't my school uniform anymore. Instead, I wore light armor that fit snugly against my body, flexible yet sturdy. A sword rested at my side, its weight unfamiliar yet oddly comforting. I reached for it, gripping the handle and drawing it halfway out of its sheath. The blade caught the sunlight, gleaming faintly. It wasn't anything special, just a basic starter weapon, but it was real. Everything here was real. I swallowed hard and looked back at the floating screen. Buy a new sword. That was my first step.

The village came into view as I walked down a dirt path, my steps cautious at first, then steadier as I adjusted to the sensation of this new body, this new world. It was like stepping into a dream I had once watched from afar. Cobblestone streets stretched between rows of small buildings, the scent of baked bread and forge smoke mixing in the air. NPCs and players moved about, their armor clinking softly, their voices blending into a lively hum. For a moment, I just stood there, taking it all in. This was real. I was really here.

The blacksmith's shop wasn't hard to find. The rhythmic clang of metal on metal guided me, and when I stepped inside, a wave of heat from the forge washed over me. The interior was filled with weapons—swords, daggers, spears—all neatly arranged, each one gleaming under the flickering light. Behind the counter stood a young girl with chestnut hair tied in a loose ponytail. She looked up as I entered, her face brightening with a welcoming smile.

"Looking for a new sword?" she asked cheerfully.

I nodded, stepping closer as the System interface appeared again, listing stats beside each weapon. Five options hovered before me: Iron Saber, Steel Katana, Shadow Blade, Windfang Sword, and Dragonfang Longsword. My eyes moved across each one, analyzing their stats. Attack power, speed, durability. My instincts told me not to rush this. Power alone wasn't everything. I needed balance. I needed control.

After a moment of hesitation, I reached out and selected the Steel Katana. It felt right. When I held it, the weight was balanced, the grip firm yet comfortable. The girl smiled approvingly and guided me through basic stances and swings. At first, my movements were stiff, awkward, but with each motion, I began to feel it—an understanding, a connection forming between me and the blade. It wasn't just a weapon. It was an extension of me.

A soft chime echoed in my mind. Quest one complete.

I exhaled, a small smile forming on my lips. One step forward. But there was no time to relax. The next objective loomed ahead. Learn to craft different weapons. That meant materials. That meant going outside the safety of the town.

The path to the forest was quiet, the sounds of the village fading behind me as I stepped into the shade of towering trees. The air grew cooler, heavier. My grip tightened around my katana as I walked, every rustle of leaves making my heart jump. Then I heard it. A faint movement. I froze, slowly turning my head.

Goblins.

Three of them emerged from behind the bushes, their green skin dull under the filtered sunlight, their eyes glowing faintly with hostility. A small screen appeared above them, marking them as low-level enemies. My first real fight.

They lunged.

My body reacted before my mind could catch up. I swung my katana, but the motion was clumsy, unrefined. One goblin dodged easily, another slashed at me, grazing my arm. Pain flared, sharp and immediate, and panic surged through me. This wasn't a game. I couldn't just button-mash my way through this.

"Focus," I muttered, forcing myself to breathe.

I adjusted my stance, remembering what I had been taught. Slow down. Observe. Move with intention. The next swing was cleaner. More precise. The blade cut through one goblin, and as it dissolved into particles, something inside me clicked. The rhythm of combat. Step, strike, retreat. I moved again, faster this time, more confident. The second goblin fell, then the third.

Silence returned to the forest.

A notification appeared. Skill increased: Sword Mastery plus one.

I leaned on my katana, breathing heavily, adrenaline still coursing through me. I had done it. I had survived my first fight. But the feeling didn't last long. Something felt off. Like I was being watched.

I shook it off, focusing on gathering materials instead. Leaves, fruits, small bits of meat from defeated creatures. Eventually, I found myself standing before a cave. Inside, faint glimmers of ore reflected the dim light. This was what I needed.

I stepped in.

The air was damp, cold. My footsteps echoed softly as I moved deeper, scanning the walls. Then my arm brushed against something sticky.

Web.

Before I could react, two large spiders dropped from the ceiling, their bodies grotesque, their eyes glowing red. My heart slammed against my chest as I drew my katana. One charged. I swung, but its legs were too thick, deflecting my blade. I jumped back, then lunged forward, thrusting the tip of my katana into one of its eyes. The creature shrieked, thrashing violently, but I held on, twisting the blade and slashing downward until it collapsed.

I barely had time to breathe before the second spider shot a web. It wrapped around my leg, trapping me. A second later, it struck, slamming into my stomach and sending me crashing against the cave wall. Pain exploded through me, knocking the air from my lungs. My vision blurred as the spider approached, its red eyes locking onto mine.

My hands trembled. My breathing grew ragged.

This was it.

I was going to die again.

"Hannah…" I whispered weakly.

Then suddenly, a flash.

A shadow moved faster than I could see, and in an instant, both spiders were cut cleanly in half. Their bodies dissolved before they even hit the ground.

I blinked in shock as a figure landed in front of me. A man with spiky reddish hair, a red bandana tied around his forehead, holding a katana with practiced ease.

"Are you new here?" he asked casually.

I nodded, still trying to process what had just happened. "Th-thank you…"

He shrugged. "No big deal."

As I looked at him more closely, realization hit me. I knew him.

"Klein…" I muttered.

He raised an eyebrow slightly but didn't question it. Instead, he tossed me a bottle filled with purple liquid. "Drink that. It's a potion."

I caught it and drank immediately, feeling warmth spread through my body as my injuries healed. After introducing myself, he helped me mine the ore I needed, and together, we returned to town.

Back at the blacksmith, I crafted a new blade. The moment it was complete, the System chimed again.

Second quest complete.

I held both weapons in my hands, feeling their weight, their potential. Klein stared at me, eyes widening slightly. "Wait… you can use both?"

I froze for a second before nodding. "I guess… I got lucky."

He laughed lightly, but I could tell he was impressed. After asking him about Kirito, he tried to contact him, but there was no response. Eventually, he waved goodbye, his expression turning serious.

"Remember," he said, "you only have one life here. This isn't just a game."

I nodded silently, watching him leave.

But as the sun began to set, painting the sky in shades of orange and gold, I clenched my fists tightly.

For them, this was their only life.

For me… this was just the beginning of a much harder journey.

And I would not fail.
