Chapter 22 - The Entire Sect Shocked? Laser Eyes? Is This How the Spirit Eye is Used?

Chapter 22: The Entire Sect Shocked? Laser Eyes? Is This How the Spirit Eye is Used?

As Du Busi's intrigued suggestion settled in the air, the atmosphere inside the pavilion instantly heated up. The Level 98 Super Douluo swept his gaze back and forth between his two disciples, making absolutely no effort to hide the eager, entertained glint in his eyes. He was entirely ready for a show.

Long Aotian was the first to move. He pushed himself up from his seat, his broad shoulders squared. A thick, heavy battle intent surged within his eyes, practically igniting the air around him.

"Junior Brother, Master is right," he said, his voice a deep, resonant rumble. "Ever since you joined the Body Sect, I have yet to see exactly where your limits lie. Since you have already grasped the basics of the Body Secret Method, let us take this to the arena. It is time for a proper test."

The sheer physical pressure radiating from Long Aotian felt like a collapsing mountain, yet Liu Yuan remained perfectly still. His breathing did not hitch. His heartbeat remained steady. He knew full well what this was. This sparring match was not merely a casual test from Du Busi; it was the absolute best opportunity to verify the brutal results of his month-long secluded cultivation. He needed a whetstone, and the Chief Disciple was the sharpest one available.

The corners of Liu Yuan's mouth curved upward into a calm, confident smile. "Since Senior Brother is in such high spirits, I would be glad to accompany you."

He rose to his feet, his posture relaxed but perfectly balanced. "I also wish to ask for your guidance. I need to see exactly what flaws remain in my actual combat when combining my Double Pupils with the Body Secret Method."

"Haha, good! That is the spirit!" Du Busi threw his head back and laughed, the booming sound rattling the wooden beams of the pavilion.

But instead of leading his two prized disciples to a private, secluded cultivation room, the old monster turned on his heel and strode directly toward the massive main arena at the very center of the Body Sect.

Du Busi had absolutely no intention of keeping this quiet.

As he walked, the terrifying spiritual sense of a Level 98 Super Douluo erupted from his body. It swept across the entire mountain gate like a tidal wave. An instant later, a voice like rolling thunder exploded directly into the ears of every single disciple within the sect.

"All idle disciples, report to the main arena immediately! Today, my two personal disciples, Long Aotian and Liu Yuan, will spar. Get over here, open your eyes, and gain some insight!"

The moment those words echoed through the mountains, the entire Body Sect erupted into absolute chaos.

Waterfalls splashed outward as meditating figures shot into the sky. Disciples abandoned their weight training, dropping heavy boulders into the dirt. Shadows darted out from the depths of the dense forests. Hundreds of figures converged into rushing streams of people, all sprinting madly toward the central arena.

Excited chatter buzzed through the rushing crowds.

"Did you hear that? The new guy, Senior Brother Liu Yuan, is actually fighting Senior Brother Long!"

"Wait, you mean the Liu Yuan who triggered the Gold-grade potential test? The one the Sect Master immediately snatched up as a personal disciple?"

"But he is only in his twenties in terms of soul power rank, right? He is seriously going up against a Rank 44 Soul Ancestor like Senior Brother Long? Is that gap not completely insane?"

The curiosity burning within the Body Sect disciples reached a fever pitch. Ever since his explosive arrival, Liu Yuan had kept entirely to himself, locked away in deep cultivation. Rumors about his heaven-defying talent had spread like wildfire, but not a single person had actually seen him fight.

Within the surging crowd, Chen Lu and Wang Yanfeng hurried along side by side.

Chen Lu wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead, his expression set in absolute certainty. "There is no suspense here. Senior Brother Long will definitely win. Rank 44 against Rank 25 is a complete and utter crushing in terms of soul power."

He adjusted his pace, dodging a younger disciple. "On top of that, Senior Brother Long's physical toughness is already knocking on the door of the Soul King realm. Junior Brother Liu Yuan might have monstrous talent, but he is still too young. His foundation cannot possibly compare."

Wang Yanfeng nodded, his gaze fixed on the towering arena in the distance. "True, but the outcome does not matter. I am just here to see what Senior Brother Liu Yuan can actually do. Since his martial soul is also an eye-type, I really want to see the difference between his power and Gu Tong's..."

Hearing his name, Gu Tong, who had been walking silently beside them, narrowed his eyes. As an elite disciple who also possessed an eye-type Body Martial Soul, he naturally felt a deep sense of investment in this match. He pushed up the bridge of his glasses, his tone calm and analytical.

"The fundamental characteristics of any Spirit Eye martial soul are well documented. They excel in mental control and battlefield assistance," Gu Tong reasoned, his voice steady. "In a strict one-on-one arena match, if Senior Brother Liu Yuan's soul skills lean toward hard control, he might be able to drag the fight out by relying on the superior kinetic vision of his Double Pupils."

He shook his head slightly. "But if his skills lean toward pure assistance, like a traditional Spirit Eye Soul Master... then against the overwhelming physical suppression of Senior Brother Long, he is going to suffer a brutal defeat."

By the time the disciples finished debating, the massive central arena was already packed to the brim. The stone stands were a sea of bodies, every pair of eyes locked onto the stage.

Du Busi sat brazenly on the high rostrum, his posture relaxed, resting his chin on his fist. Down below, Long Aotian and Liu Yuan stood at opposite ends of the colossal stone platform, a space large enough to easily accommodate a thousand people.

The wind howled across the open stone. The noise of the crowd faded into a tense, heavy silence.

Up on the rostrum, Du Busi raised a hand and gave them a single, sharp look.

Begin.

"Junior Brother. According to the rules of a challenge, please make the first move."

Long Aotian's words were perfectly polite, but his facial muscles were taut, his expression unprecedentedly grave. He did not underestimate his opponent for a single second.

He rolled his shoulders. A low, rumbling dragon roar echoed from his very bones.

Boom!

Four optimal soul rings—yellow, yellow, purple, and black—surged up from beneath his feet, rotating around his muscular frame. A tyrannical shockwave of soul power blasted outward, slamming into the arena floor. The heavy stone beneath his boots groaned, spiderwebbing with fine, jagged cracks under the sheer weight of his aura.

Long Aotian immediately focused inward. He mobilized his soul power and spiritual force simultaneously, weaving them together to construct a dense, airtight defensive net directly around his brain.

He knew exactly how terrifying mental-attribute martial souls could be. The true danger of a Spirit Eye lay in sudden, invisible mental shockwaves. Those attacks were notoriously difficult to block. Once a cultivator's Sea of Consciousness was fractured, it did not matter if their physical body was forged from divine iron—they would instantly become a lamb waiting to be slaughtered.

He was not going to give Liu Yuan that chance. His mental defenses were locked down tight.

Across the arena, Liu Yuan watched the display of power with absolute calm. The wind tugged at his clothes.

"Senior Brother, be careful," Liu Yuan warned, his voice carrying clearly over the distance. "My martial soul... operates a bit differently from a traditional Spirit Eye."

He took a slow, measured breath.

Within his eyes, the overlapping Double Pupils suddenly began to rotate. They spun at a terrifying speed, blurring into a visual vortex that looked as deep and consuming as a black hole.

Hum!

Two soul rings erupted from beneath his feet—one yellow, one purple. The aura they emitted was entirely disproportionate to their rank, carrying a heavy, heart-palpitating pressure that made the surrounding air feel thick and suffocating.

"I am attacking!" Liu Yuan declared.

He finally made his move.

Every single disciple in the stands leaned forward. Long Aotian braced his legs, his spiritual defenses flaring to their absolute maximum, fully expecting an invisible wave of mental interference, a dizzying illusion, or a piercing psychic spike.

But that was not what happened.

Inside Liu Yuan's body, his soul power surged. Following the newly forged meridian pathways opened by the Body Secret Method, the violent energy bypassed his brain entirely and converged directly into his eyes.

Within that pair of spinning Double Pupils, the deep, abyssal blackness ignited. In a fraction of a second, his eyes transformed into pools of extreme, blinding crimson.

"First Soul Skill—Spirit Ray!"

Chi—!!!

There was zero warning. No mental shockwave. No invisible psychic attack.

Instead, two scarlet, high-energy beams of pure, superheated destruction erupted directly from Liu Yuan's Double Pupils! They were only as thick as a finger, but the energy compressed within them was terrifyingly dense.

The twin lasers tore through the arena with a shrill, ear-piercing screech. The sheer temperature of the beams caused the surrounding air to warp and distort violently. In the blink of an eye, the scarlet light crossed the dozens of meters separating them, aiming dead center for Long Aotian's chest.

The noisy, buzzing arena instantly fell dead silent.

Long Aotian's pupils contracted to the size of pinpoints.

His heavily fortified mental defenses were utterly useless. He could feel the terrifying, physical cutting power radiating from those beams, layered with a lethal mental penetration. A scalp-numbing sense of fatal crisis exploded in his mind. Relying purely on his monstrous instincts, Long Aotian pushed his bronze-colored body to the absolute limit, violently twisting his torso sideways.

The red beams grazed his fading afterimage. They shot past him and slammed directly into the blackstone railing at the far edge of the arena.

Zzz—

There was no massive explosion. The solid blackstone—a material as hard as refined iron, specifically designed to withstand the full-force attacks of ordinary Soul Ancestors—offered zero resistance. In front of the scarlet light, it was like butter meeting a white-hot knife. The beams instantly melted through the stone, leaving behind two perfectly smooth, mirror-like holes.

Up in the stands, the eyes of the watching disciples practically bulged out of their skulls.

The move Liu Yuan had just unleashed completely shattered their entire understanding of the world. In the entire history of the continent, this was the very first time any of them had ever seen a Spirit Eye martial soul used like a heavy artillery weapon.

Jaws dropped. Breathing stopped. Then, the silence shattered as the crowd erupted.

"What the hell?! Is there something wrong with my eyes?!"

"Is that still a Spirit Eye?!"

"What kind of outrageous physical firepower is that?!"
