"Simple, huh? That does sound very much like Miss Dyna."
Dream Journey accepted Opera O's explanation without question. From what she had seen, Dyna was absolutely the minimalist type of horse girl—so long as something was practical, what it looked like came second.
In Dream Journey's eyes, Golden Giant and Light Dyna were practically two polar opposites taken to extremes.
As for Giant… she cared only about making it look dazzling. Practicality ranked dead last. Just thinking about how this race outfit had tormented both her and Gold Journey for days—and how she still hadn't properly rested because of it—made Dream Journey's head ache.
Opera O turned her face away and offered no comment on Dream Journey's conclusion. When it came to fashion and clothing, she herself was thoroughly clueless. She absolutely could not risk pretending otherwise and making a complete fool of herself.
Neither girl took very long to change, but Dyna's outfit was much simpler than Giant's. Strictly speaking, she should have been the first to come out—
Except she didn't come out at all.
She got changed the fastest, then shut herself inside the fitting room. Her trembling voice drifted out from within, sounding so pitiful she was practically on the verge of tears.
"Um… Miss Opera O. This is… not what I imagined at all… right? The design sketch looked really, really…"
Dyna had wanted to say normal, but the girl in the mirror looked anything but.
The whole dress used soft pink as its base, threaded through with pale violet and gilded lines. The waist was pulled in tighter, perfectly emphasizing how slender Dyna's middle was. The fabric on her legs was white—a choice that demanded even more from the shape of her legs—and around the ankles above her high heels were ribbons in violet and pink wrapped together.
Looking at it like that, the outfit itself was actually quite ordinary.
Except for the opening at the chest.
In other words—
A boob window.
[The full character art isn't finished yet, so just treat this as a costume design reference.]
And once that detail was factored in, the first thing anyone's eyes would be drawn to was inevitably that expanse of pale flesh. The destructive power rivaled Fuji Kiseki's—
No, it was much worse.
Because unlike Fuji Kiseki, who merely wore a slightly loose shirt with a few buttons undone, Dyna's outfit had been made to showcase the real thing head-on. It framed and lifted everything without a trace of restraint.
"Miss Tailor! There's really no way to alter it now?"
Dyna's cheeks were burning. It was the first time the soft flesh at her chest had been so openly exposed to the air. The cool sensation was like someone blowing into a stove, fanning the heat of her embarrassment higher and higher.
The tailor, still fiddling with her phone, smacked her lips and answered, "It can be altered. But there's no time. You're uncomfortable with that opening, right? Still, the entire upper half was cut according to the original design, so if you want changes, I'd have to recut the whole bodice. That'd take at least another month."
"Huh?! Why would it take that long?"
"Because I'm out of fabric in that color, that's why! Honestly, I almost never get horse girls asking for pink as the base tone. The pink gauze and the gradient silk in your outfit? I had to custom mix those colors myself. Nearly worked me to death."
The tailor sounded deeply aggrieved. In all her years at this job, she had barely taken any commissions for pink race outfits. The last time had been Curren Cima's—and the leftover pink fabric from that job had all been used up on Dyna's.
Opera O crossed her arms, curiosity written all over her face. She genuinely wanted to see what Dyna's outfit looked like in the flesh.
"Well then… as long as it fits, right? Dyna, why not come out and let us have a look?"
"No way!"
"Wow. What do you think, Sea Star?"
"Not as fashionable as mine, but for Dyna? It's very bold."
The two dead girls circled Dyna and appraised her from top to bottom, making comment after comment. Dyna nearly punched them. These two mare girls who looked utterly reliable on the surface but were actually complete menaces really needed to get out of her head as soon as possible.
That was what she thought, though in truth, whether they stood at her side or not, they'd already seen every last detail of her wearing the outfit.
"Ugh… how did Miss Sea Star ever manage to wear something like that out onto the track…"
The moment Dyna thought of Sea Star's gorgeous waistline and the star-pattern tattoo on her lower abdomen, the heat in her face intensified even further. This kind of thing was simply too advanced for horse girls.
Sea Star pinched her chin thoughtfully. "Actually, my mother came up with it. As for me, I always treated the race outfit as a tool made to serve G1 races. As for the tattoo… well, fine, that was because I thought I was very special back then, so I got it done behind my mother's back. She nearly beat me to death over it."
Dyna jumped. So even gentle Sea City had done something like that to her child…?
Then again, after remembering the tattoo, Dyna suddenly felt Sea City had actually gone rather easy on her.
"Anyway, you need to learn to face your own body! And the way others look at it! Sometimes, you need to learn how to show yourself off, Dyna!"
Sea Star's pep talk might have had some effect. But for conservative little Dyna, it was nowhere near enough.
So Cody's Wish made her move.
Just like before Dyna's victory concert, she reached out and brushed a hand across Dyna's narrow waist. The silk was smooth, and the softness beneath it—
Dyna pressed her lips together, made no sound, and lurched forward. Wearing high heels and already unsteady on her feet, she lost balance completely and stumbled straight out of the fitting room, crashing against the opposite wall together with the swinging door.
Her whole body pressed flat against it.
That left her back exposed to Dream Journey and Opera O.
Cody's Wish clenched her hand with immense satisfaction and watched Dyna from inside the fitting room with all the serenity of a慈祥 elder.
"It really is simple," Dream Journey remarked.
She looked at the long skirt and the pink gauze and spoke in a soft voice.
Dyna was much taller than she was, so the white stockings looked especially fitting. The high heels made Dyna stand even straighter and taller, though the fact that she was now plastered awkwardly against a door made the whole sight rather strange.
The door pressed her chest flat enough that Dyna swallowed nervously, then turned her head with stiff, jerky motions.
"Um… this should be enough, right? So I can go change back now…"
"Why don't you let us see the front too?"
The moment Opera O said that, Dyna went rigid. Her face was as red as an apple, and the way she bit her lip made it obvious she was waging the fiercest internal battle imaginable.
At last, Dyna chose to reveal her truest self.
She turned slowly, covering that dangerous bit of scenery with one hand.
"Anyway… this is it. There's nothing worth looking at!"
Dream Journey's pupils abruptly dilated, then shrank back to normal. The light in her eyes vanished completely.
She suddenly wanted to take back the word simple.
How could Light Dyna be this huge?
Body proportions were one subject Dream Journey always avoided. She had never expected Dyna—who never flaunted herself at all—to stab her straight through the heart like this.
And Dyna's pose only made the effect stronger. That opening at her chest could not possibly be fully hidden by a single hand. The way she half-covered herself, all shy reluctance and concealment, only made her more alluring.
"Big Sis, this outfit is still really hard to wear…"
Golden Giant pushed the door open and stepped out. She had heard Dream Journey talking to someone from inside. At first she hadn't cared, but the instant she caught the name Dyna, her heart had grown restless. So after getting dressed, she'd come out without even looking in the mirror.
And the first thing she saw was Dyna standing right there, looking lost and helpless.
"..."
Giant admitted that for a split second, her eyes were dragged away.
But her self-control was strong. She yanked them back at once and fixed them on her petite older sister instead.
"Mm? Giant, what is it?"
Dream Journey snapped back to herself and looked her younger sister up and down, clearly satisfied with the race outfit.
Because Giant's only request had been make it sparkling, the whole design had been built around the concept of a "King of the Turf." The most eye-catching feature was the crimson cape draped over her left shoulder, embroidered with golden thread.
Beneath the cape was a short skirt, with additional draped panels extending down from the waist. What they all had in common was that they were studded with glittering gold accents.
"Nothing… important."
Giant deliberately flicked her cape. Her appearance in the outfit was indeed worlds apart from usual, but the most striking feature was undoubtedly the six golden crystal pieces set across her forehead, all catching and reflecting the light.
Dyna, too, had been momentarily captivated by Giant's dazzling outfit—until the snap of the cape broke her out of it.
Apparently Golden Giant herself had not been fully confident she would get any good results in the Spring Stakes, which was why she had only come to make the outfit afterward. After all, the only victory she had to her name right now was a single maiden win.
Seven races, one victory.
That was Golden Giant as she stood now: all her chips pushed onto the three Classic races. Giant herself knew it was an enormous gamble—one even Nakayama Festa would never have dared.
Compared to that, Light Dyna now stood at four wins from four starts, with a complete graded sweep of G3, G2, and G1. It was a peak Golden Giant could not yet touch.
And more importantly—
Golden Giant had already lost to Dyna twice in person.
"So? You two done staring each other stupid? Since neither of you wants changes, we're finished here, right?"
The tailor's words cut through the bizarre silence. She could tell the relationship between these two went beyond mere enmity, though what business was that of hers?
"I don't. It suits me perfectly."
Giant lifted her chin proudly. In theory, with Dyna in heels, they should have been able to meet each other eye to eye. But Giant wore heeled boots too, and the familiar height gap had returned.
Meanwhile, Dyna's ears were already pressed back into a rounded, flattened shape—a full equine mode of embarrassment.
"I… don't either. Thank you for your hard work, Miss Tailor."
Once she got confirmation from both of them, the tailor tore down their order slips, shoved them into the proper clothing bags, and clapped her hands in relief.
"Then the orders are complete. If you need repairs or aftercare on the race outfits later, feel free to come back. It's all free."
Having said that, she dropped the curtain over her service window with a loud clatter. The whole room fell silent again.
Dream Journey and Opera O both sensed the growing tension in the air and exchanged a glance.
The verdict was immediate: get the children out of here at once.
If these two stayed together any longer, it would absolutely turn into a bloodbath.
These enemies were better separated than reconciled. Leave them alone together, and a great war was guaranteed.
"Well then, if neither side has any issues, shall we part ways here?" Dream Journey broke the tension first, speaking in an easy tone.
Opera O followed suit. "Mm. Dyna doesn't have any objections either, right?"
"No. Miss Opera O, didn't you say there's training later today?"
Dyna had already given up on changing back. At this point, she might as well just go on with her training in the outfit. It would save time later when she needed to get used to running in it anyway.
Golden Giant said nothing. She simply kept looking Dyna up and down.
Her restless heart wanted only one thing: to defeat Light Dyna fair and square on the track and wash away every disgrace of the past.
Once the two camps had left the logistics department and gone their separate ways, and once they were fully out of each other's sensory range, Dyna finally let out a breath. The edge she'd been holding against Giant softened at once.
"Why do I keep running into Golden Giant everywhere? I hate it."
Her ankles were sore. High heels were not a pleasant first experience. She had only managed to walk that far through sheer willpower.
"Come now, there's still a long road ahead. Since you're aiming for the same thing, you'll only meet more and more often on the track. All you need to do is keep trampling her underfoot every time. Eventually, she won't have any thoughts left for you at all."
Opera O's reasoning was perhaps a little strange. After all, she herself had once spent an entire year turning Admire Vega into a glorified background character—but the Vega of her racing days had been a girl whose brilliance cut like a blade. She was nothing like the soft, timid little bean she became after retirement.
Once Vega had retired, it was as if someone had changed out her soul entirely. None of that chilling intensity remained.
Dyna was not entirely convinced, but she had no better method. Besides, she had no little clique of her own inside Tracen Academy. She could only rely on outside fan support.
"You're not used to the heels, are you? Most horse girls have to go through it. Looks like it'll take you a while to adapt."
Opera O noticed the way Dyna was walking and could only sigh inwardly. She had originally suggested heeled boots instead of heels. One word's difference made all the difference in the world.
The heel on a shoe had much less contact with the ground. Boots distributed the weight better and were far more comfortable.
Dyna held one arm with the other hand and let out a light sigh.
Since she had chosen this herself, she would just have to endure it.
Still, what fascinated her most was the fact that once she put it on, it felt almost temperature-controlled. No matter how the wind blew, by the time it touched her skin, it became a perfectly comfortable warmth.
So this was the blessing of the Three Goddesses.
"It's a shame you can't wear it as everyday clothes…"
If clothes like this could be turned into casual fashion, they'd surely sell like crazy, right?
"The Three Goddesses don't have that kind of spare attention~ I imagine blessing all the G1 horse girls' race outfits already keeps them dizzy enough."
Opera O had entertained the same thought once, but quickly gave it up.
Then she carefully went over all the precautions for storing and cleaning the outfit—special cleaning service only, no hand-washing if possible, because damage would be a much bigger hassle—and afterward promptly kicked Dyna back toward the shop.
For the next few days, Dyna needed proper rest. Opera O also ordered her to wear the high heels every day to adapt, then come back to the academy in three days' time for training in the full outfit.
Of course…
The moment Dyna returned to the shop still wearing the race outfit, it naturally drew the curious attention of Gold Ship, Oguri Cap, and Nagasakura.
After all, when the boss lady was standing there fresh, fragrant, soft, and adorable in a new outfit, not reaching out for at least one good squeeze would have been far too tragic a waste.
