Lee caught him before he hit the ground.
"Inyocha? Inyocha, can you hear me?"
Inyocha's eyes fluttered open. They weren't red anymore. They were brown. Human. The reversed spiral on his chest was fading, the darkness bleeding away like ink in water.
"What... what happened?" Inyocha asked.
"You happened," Lee said, tears streaming down his face. "You fought back. You chose to be better."
"I chose..." Inyocha looked at his hands. At the shadows that were gone. At the power that had faded. "I chose to be nothing."
"You chose to be human," Lee corrected. "There's a difference."
Inyocha laughed a weak, broken sound. "I don't know how to be human, Lee. I've been a monster for so long..."
"Then learn," Lee said. "We'll teach you. Together."
Inyocha looked at Lee's friends at Kira, who was trying not to cry; at Taro, who was openly sobbing; at Ren, whose calm smile had never wavered.
"Why?" Inyocha asked. "Why would you help me? After everything I've done?"
"Because that's what family does," Kira said. "Even when it's hard. Especially when it's hard."
"Because everyone deserves a second chance," Taro added.
"Because the world is better when we lift each other up instead of tearing each other down," Ren finished.
Inyocha stared at them.
Then he started to cry.
Not the brief tears from before real tears, ugly and raw and honest. Tears for every soul he'd consumed. Tears for every life he'd destroyed. Tears for the boy he'd been and the man he was trying to become.
Lee held him.
And in the heart of the tower, surrounded by the silent souls of the Eclipse Engine, the two brothers light and shadow, sun and moon finally came together.
