Reira can be understood as a second, overriding life force that exists alongside the natural life energy of a human being, but ultimately replaces it as the dominant system.
To understand it properly, it helps to first recognize what natural life energy is.
Natural life energy — also referred to as the Life Force of Mother Nature, is the fundamental energy that sustains human existence. Within the body, this is centered in what is called the Nexus of Life (NOL).
At its most basic level, human life is maintained through three core systems working in coordination:
The heart, which circulates blood
The brain, which regulates and controls bodily functions
The lungs, which provide oxygen
Together, these systems support the body's cells, allowing them to generate energy and sustain life. In simple terms, energy is what keeps everything functioning.
The brain uses energy to transmit signals.
The heart uses energy to contract and pump blood.
The lungs use energy to facilitate breathing and oxygen exchange.
Without energy, these systems fail. Without function, life ceases.
This foundational energy is what is referred to as NOL — a kind of internal "battery" that powers the human body like a biological generator.
Reira, however, is something entirely different.
It is described as a second life force, born from corruption linked to a being that ascended to godhood through a distorted, incomplete process. Its origin is tied to an energy that embodies absolute duality — good and evil existing simultaneously within the same source.
In simpler terms, Reira is formed from complete opposites merging into one unified force:
Good and evil
Light and darkness
Life and death
Truth and falsehood
Order and chaos
Positive and negative
When these polar opposites converge, the result is what is known as Reira.
Unlike NOL, Reira does not merely support life — it replaces it.
When it awakens within a person, Reira functions as a superior life system, acting like a stronger, more dominant "battery" that completely overshadows the NOL. The original life energy is not removed, however. It remains within the body as part of the individual's natural structure, but it is suppressed — locked down and forced into a passive state while Reira takes full control of bodily function and energy flow.
In essence, NOL becomes dormant, while Reira assumes dominance as the new governing force of life.
There is also a critical risk tied to Reira's removal from a person's body.
If Reira is forcibly extracted or fully drained from an individual, the result is almost always immediate death. This is not a gradual failure but a violent systemic collapse.
The reason lies in the balance between Reira and NOL. While Reira is active, it suppresses the NOL, holding the natural life force in a restrained, dormant state. However, once Reira is completely removed, that suppression vanishes instantly.
At that point, the NOL does not simply return in a controlled manner. It rushes back into dominance with overwhelming force, attempting to reassert control over the body all at once. The body, however, is not built to withstand that sudden reversal.
Regardless of timing or reaction speed, the outcome remains fatal. If the NOL returns too slowly, the system collapses before stabilization can occur. If it returns too quickly, the surge overwhelms the body's core functions. Even in the rare scenario where it briefly re-establishes control, the internal strain is still too extreme to survive. In every case, the heart fails and ruptures under the pressure, unable to endure the abrupt energetic shift.
This is why complete disappearance of Reira from a person is almost unheard of under natural circumstances. It rarely ever leaves a body entirely on its own. However, forced extraction remains a possibility, and it is one of the most dangerous states a Reira user can face, precisely because survival becomes virtually impossible once the separation is complete.
It is also why ordinary civilians cannot utilize Reira, or more accurately, why they avoid it entirely. The general understanding is that a person must be capable of keeping the two polar opposites in balance within themselves — something an average trained individual can achieve only at a basic level.
Even then, failure is common. Many who attempt to awaken or stabilize Reira without sufficient control simply die as a result of internal collapse.
There are only a few ways a person can properly utilize Reira: through disciplined training, natural genetic compatibility, or in rare cases, sheer luck. Even in those rare instances, however, training is still required to understand and stabilize it.
A weak-willed individual is especially vulnerable. Without the mental discipline needed to manage the opposing forces within Reira, the energy can destabilize them entirely, leading to immediate death.
For most soldiers and members of the defense corps, basic Reira training is intentionally limited. It focuses primarily on enhancing physical capability rather than full mastery, as this represents a controlled threshold — one that allows usage without pushing them into dangerous territory.
In other words, the relationship is direct: the more intense and structured the training, the greater the individual's ability to control Reira.
And there is another layer of training entirely — one that goes beyond structured control or disciplined mastery.
It is a form of conditioning that requires a direct encounter with death itself and the ability to survive it. Those who endure this process are said to evolve into something far more refined and unstable in nature, known as an Obscium Nexus.
An explanation of that, however, comes later.
