Chapter 60 - Chapter 60: Broly

Two figures streaked across the sky of Planet Vampa.

One was a young boy with a tail wrapped around his waist, his small body enveloped in a shroud of white aura. Beside him flew a handsome young man dressed in attire reminiscent of ancient Egypt. Unlike the boy, the man had no visible aura, a clear sign that his control over his power had reached a level of absolute perfection.

"Gra... Gran, you said there's lots of 'tasty food' out there. What exactly is that?"

In the short time they had been together, young Broly had already opened up to Gran, speaking to him as if they were lifelong friends.

"Tasty food? It's hard to explain," Gran replied, glancing sideways at the boy. "Once I take you back to the Sacred World of the Kai, you'll see for yourself."

Gran looked at the child with a hint of pity. While Broly was still in his nursing capsule, King Vegeta had exiled him to this desolate rock. Planet Vampa was a nightmare of a world—harsh, unforgiving, and barren. Broly had grown up here without clean water or even a decent meal. If not for his resilient Saiyan physiology, he would have perished long ago.

"You're flying too slowly," Gran remarked. "How about I give you a lift?"

He moved closer and grabbed the boy by the collar of his pelt. Suddenly, Gran's body tensed.

BOOM!

A terrifying surge of power erupted from Gran, causing the entire planet to shudder. Like a bolt of primordial light, he sliced through the atmosphere and vanished into the horizon. The sheer force of his speed plowed a bottomless trench through the thick yellow sands below.

A thousand kilometers away, inside the cave that Broly called home...

"What is happening?!"

The cavern shook violently. Paragus, a middle-aged man with the rugged features of a veteran soldier, scrambled to his feet in a panic. Aside from the monsters, Vampa was devoid of life. Could this be a stampede?

Driven by instinct, Paragus rushed to the cave entrance, ready to face whatever threat was coming. But as he looked up, he witnessed the most terrifying sight of his life.

CRACK—!

A blinding streak of light tore across the sky. Everywhere it passed, the very fabric of space seemed to shatter under the pressure. In an instant, the light descended, and two figures landed softly on the ground.

From Paragus's perspective, the sky above them looked like a cracked mirror about to collapse. The sheer weight of the atmosphere felt suffocating. Paragus's legs gave out, and he collapsed onto the dirt, his soul trembling.

"This... what kind of power is this?!" he stammered, paralyzed with fear.

"Father!"

A high-pitched voice reached his ears. Paragus blinked, finally recognizing one of the newcomers. It was his son, Broly—standing next to a mysterious, powerful stranger.

"Bro... Broly! Get over here, quickly!"

Forgetting his fear for a moment, Paragus lunged forward and pulled the boy behind him. He glared at Gran with a mixture of suspicion and terror. He had lived on Vampa for over a decade and had never seen another soul. This man was clearly an off-worlder.

Under normal circumstances, Paragus would have been ecstatic. A visitor meant a spaceship, and a spaceship meant a way off this hellhole. But after seeing that display of power, he knew that trying to hijack this man's ship would be suicide.

"Father, Gran says he's a Saiyan too. He's here to take us back," Broly said, tugging at his father's sleeve.

"A Saiyan?" Paragus's eyes widened.

The stranger's clothes were bizarre, but his features were undeniably Saiyan. "But how is that possible? Since when did our race produce someone of this caliber?"

The elite Saiyan warriors topped out at a power level of 10,000. No one with a power level like that could shatter the sky. Even Frieza... could Frieza even do that?

Then, the second half of Broly's sentence clicked. Paragus's face lit up with manic joy. "You... you mean you're taking us back to Planet Vegeta?"

"Planet Vegeta?" Gran shook his head slowly. "Planet Vegeta was destroyed long ago."

"What?!" Paragus turned pale. "You're this strong... did you destroy it?"

The moment the words left his mouth, the mysterious Saiyan vanished. Before Paragus could even blink, Gran was standing right in front of him, his hand clamped firmly around his throat.

Paragus gasped, his face turning a sickly shade of purple as he clawed at the iron grip.

"Gran! What are you doing?!" Broly cried out, his eyes wide with shock. "Let my father go!"

Pure rage ignited within the young boy. His ki began to skyrocket at an impossible rate.

800,000... 1,000,000... 2,000,000!

The energy continued to swell. Gran watched the boy with cold curiosity, making no move to stop him. He wanted to see exactly where the boy's limit lay.

"I said let him go!"

Broly's power hit 5,000,000. He lunged forward, swinging a small, clenched fist with all his might.

"Too slow," Gran muttered.

He caught the punch effortlessly with his free hand. The impact generated a shockwave so violent it leveled the cave behind them. Seeing his attack fail and his father still in danger, Broly finally snapped.

"ROAR!!!"

With a beastly howl, Broly's power exploded again.

5,000,000... 10,000,000... 50,000,000!

The entire planet began to moan under the pressure. Broly threw another punch, and Gran stepped back, letting go of the boy's fist to dodge. Broly's assault became a blur of feral violence, but no matter how many strikes he threw, he couldn't even graze the hem of Gran's garment.

Paragus watched from the ground, horrified. What kind of monster was this man?

"Is that all?" Gran said, sounding slightly disappointed.

By his estimation, Broly's power had peaked somewhere around 200 million. It was more than enough to dismantle the current Frieza, but the boy still hadn't tapped into the legendary Super Saiyan state. Perhaps he was simply too young.

In a flash, Gran appeared behind Broly. With a precise, gentle chop to the back of the neck, he sent the boy into unconsciousness. Broly slumped to the ground.

"No!" Paragus scrambled toward his son, fearing the worst. Broly was his only hope for vengeance.

Gran didn't stop him. He tossed the boy toward his father. "He's fine. I just knocked him out."

Relieved to find his son breathing, Paragus looked up at Gran, his voice trembling. "A Saiyan shouldn't be this strong. Who... who are you? Did you really not destroy Planet Vegeta?"

"Like the boy said, my name is Gran. You can address me as Lord Destroyer Candidate," Gran replied, his eyes narrowing. "As for your home, Frieza destroyed it. It had nothing to do with me."

"Frieza...?" Paragus gasped. He didn't know what a "Destroyer Candidate" was, but the name of the tyrant hit him like a physical blow. "But why? We served him! We were his most loyal soldiers! Did he find out about King Vegeta's secret plans?"

As King Vegeta's right-hand man, Paragus knew all about the hidden resentment and the secret buildup of power intended to one day overthrow the Frost Demon.

"What happened to the rest of our people?" Paragus asked, clutching Broly tightly. "And King Vegeta... is he dead?"

Paragus hated the King. His son had been born a prodigy with a power level of 10,000, a genius beyond measure, and yet the King couldn't stomach the competition. He had cast them out to die. Revenge was the only thing that had kept Paragus alive all these years.

"Everyone on the planet died," Gran said flatly. "And yes, King Vegeta perished in the explosion."

"Dead? They're all dead?!" Paragus let out a gutteral roar of frustration. It was an empty, hollow scream. The fire of his vengeance had been snuffed out by a lack of a target. He sat there, a shell of a man, not even noticing as Broly slipped from his arms onto the sand.

Gran walked over and picked the boy up.

"What are you doing with my son?!" Paragus snapped back to reality, reaching out to grab him.

Suddenly, a wave of divine pressure erupted from Gran. It wasn't just physical power; it was the authority of a God of Destruction. Every monster on Vampa hit the dirt, paralyzed. Paragus was slammed face-first into the ground, frothing at the mouth.

Who is this man? Is he even a Saiyan?

Then, the air turned gold. With a roar of static energy, Gran's hair shifted into a brilliant, flickering gold.

"This... what is this?!" Paragus's pupils shrunk to pinpricks.

"Paragus, this is the Super Saiyan of our legends. Don't tell me you don't recognize it," Gran said, crouching down while still holding Broly.

Paragus felt his soul vibrate. "The legend... it's true... it actually exists..."

He tried to stand, but the divine pressure held him down. Sensing the point had been made, Gran withdrew the aura. Paragus stumbled, nearly falling over again from the sudden release of tension.

"You... you really are a Super Saiyan?" Paragus asked, his eyes burning with a sudden, fanatical light. The broken man was gone, replaced by a true believer.

"You doubt me?" Gran raised a hand, and a sphere of pure Hakai energy flickered at his fingertips. The aura of death was so concentrated that Paragus's skin turned white.

"I believe! I believe you!" Paragus shouted, his fear overtaken by obsession.

"Good." Gran lowered his hand. He knew how to handle Saiyans—show them absolute power, and they would follow. Being one of them only made the bond stronger.

"Lord Gran... since you are so powerful..." Paragus began, bowing low.

"Lord Destroyer Candidate," Gran corrected him. Internally, he was loving every second of this. Showing off was remarkably cathartic.

"Yes... Lord Candidate... what is a Destroyer?"

"Think of it as a god who governs the destruction of the universe," Gran explained.

Paragus thought back to the shattered sky and nodded frantically. It made sense. A Saiyan who had become a god.

"Lord Gran, since you are a god, have you killed Frieza?"

"No."

"What? Why?"

"A Saiyan will kill him eventually. That's not your concern," Gran said. He looked down at the sleeping Broly with a smirk. "But here's a tip: King Vegeta is dead, but his son, Prince Vegeta, is still alive. The sins of the father fall to the son. You can have your revenge there."

Paragus's face twisted into a mask of pure malice. Vegeta was alive? His revenge wasn't dead after all!

"Lord Gran, please! Take me with you! I must find Vegeta!"

"With your current power? You'd be killed in seconds," Gran said, shaking his head. "Broly could kill him easily, but he's staying with me. I'm taking him to be trained."

"Why? What will you do to him?"

Gran sighed. "You're his father—haven't you noticed he loses his mind when he fights? If he stays with you, he'll eventually snap and kill everything in sight, including you."

Paragus shivered. He knew it was true. When Broly lost control, he was a force of nature that recognized no one.

"I will teach him to control that power," Gran stated. "As for you, I have a different job. Go out into the stars and find the other surviving Saiyans. Gather them. Tell them their King has returned."
