Chapter 11 - “The Unfinished Goodbye”

Today… finally… it was our last day together.

Our farewell.

I don't know why, but from the moment I woke up, everything felt different. The day didn't feel normal. It felt important… heavy… beautiful… and a little painful at the same time.😐

Our school had arranged the farewell in a party plot right beside the school, and it was scheduled for 7 PM. But my day had started much earlier.

I woke up early in the morning, even before my alarm. I just couldn't sleep properly the whole night. There was excitement, nervousness, and a strange kind of sadness all mixed together inside me.

Slowly, one by one, my 3–4 friends came to my house to get ready together. The room filled with noise, laughter, makeup kits, dresses, and that typical "farewell chaos." Everyone was excited, talking nonstop, helping each other, but somewhere in between all that, I kept going quiet for a few seconds… lost in my own thoughts.

We started getting ready.

First, I did my makeup slowly, carefully, looking at myself again and again in the mirror, making sure everything looked perfect. Then my mom helped me with my hairstyle. She adjusted every strand with so much care, and for a moment, I just sat there silently, letting her do it, thinking how this was really the last school event of my life.

Then came the saree.

The olive green saree I had been waiting for.

I wore it slowly, adjusting every pleat, every fold. And when I finally looked at myself in the mirror, I just paused for a second.

I looked… different.

Pretty.😍

Not like the usual school version of me.

In the end, I wore my earrings and a ring, and suddenly everything felt complete. I smiled softly at my reflection.😊

"Wow…" one of my friends said, "you look so pretty!"

I just smiled, but inside… I was thinking only one thing—

"Will he notice?"👀😩

---

While my friends were still getting ready, I went and sat on the sofa for a moment. The house was full of noise, but inside my mind, everything was quiet.

I started thinking about him.

"Aaj woh kaisa lagega…"

"Aaj main usse dekh paungi na…"

"Ya… aaj last time hoga…"

So many thoughts, one after another.

Just then, my best friend came and sat beside me.

"Kya soch rahi hai?" she asked, smiling.

Before I could answer, she herself said, "Oh, I forgot… of course, him."

I smiled a little and said softly, "Aaj last day hai usse dekhne ka…"

For a second, she didn't tease me. She just looked at me and said calmly, "Everything will be alright. If he is your destiny… he will be yours."

I looked at her and nodded slowly. "I hope…"🤞🏻🤧

---

After getting fully ready, we were about to leave when one of my friends called and said, "Farewell toh 7 baje hai, but sab log school ke paas wale garden me photoshoot ke liye jaa rahe hai."

"Okay, hum bhi aate hai," I said.

We reached the garden, and as expected, everyone was busy clicking pictures, making reels, laughing, posing, enjoying every second.

But me?

I was physically there… but mentally somewhere else again.

I kept asking my best friend again and again, "Main acchi lag rahi hu na?"

She laughed, "Haan baba, bahut acchi lag rahi hai… chal photos lete hai."

We clicked some pictures, smiled, posed… but still, somewhere, my focus was incomplete.

---

Soon, only 15 minutes were left for the farewell to start, so we all left for the party plot.

As we entered, everything looked beautiful.

Lights.🌟

Decorations.🎊

Music.🎶🎻🎼🎙️

The whole atmosphere felt special.

Programs started—teachers' speeches, dance performances, everything was going on, and all students were sitting on chairs.

Me and my best friend sat a little at the back.

But honestly…

I wasn't watching the stage.

I was searching.

Looking around again and again…

Trying to find him.

And finally…

I saw him.👀🙈💓

He was sitting a little ahead.

Wearing a black blazer.

And for a moment… everything just stopped.

He looked… different.

Not like school days.

More mature.

More confident.

More… perfect.🤌🏻❤️

I couldn't take my eyes off him.

---

After some time, performances ended, and everyone got busy—clicking pictures, making videos, eating food.

There were so many dishes—sizzlers, Italian, Indian, everything.

My friends started eating.

But me?

I was still searching for him.

Finally, I stood up, thinking, "I should go and find him properly."

But just as I got up, one of my brother friends held my hand and said, "Kaha ja rahi hai? Pehle kuch kha le."

I said, "Mera mann nahi hai."

My best friend looked at me and said teasingly, "Mujhe pata hai kyun mann nahi hai."

She forced me to eat a few bites.

After that, I said, "Chal na… us side chalte hai… ek baar acche se dekh lu."

She smiled, "Okay, chal."

---

We went near his side.

He was standing with his friends.

Talking.

Laughing.

Completely normal.

And I was just standing there…

Looking at him.

Quietly.👀✨💕

My best friend whispered, "Ja na… confess kar de."

I immediately said, "Pagal hai kya? Yaha teachers hai… not possible… aur waise bhi… it will be embarrassing."

She said, "Haan theek hai… baad me try karenge… online."

I just nodded.

---

After that, my friends called me for photos.

"Chal jaldi!"

And I went.

We clicked pictures, group photos, random photos, laughing, posing…

And somewhere in between all this…

Time passed.

Without me even realizing.

Suddenly I checked the time.

It was 11 PM.

Farewell… was over.

---

Everyone started leaving.

We also went towards the parking area.

And just when I thought maybe… this is it…

I saw him again.

This time… very close.

Just a little distance away.

My heart started beating fast again.

I got nervous.

I started adjusting my saree, pretending to be busy.

And for a moment…

He looked in my direction.

My best friend immediately whispered, "He noticed you."

And that one line…

Made me smile instantly.🤭☺️

---

While leaving, so many thoughts came into my mind.

*Is this our ending?*

*Will we ever meet again?*

*Was this just… a one-sided story?*

Or…

*Maybe… something is still left?*

---

I reached home, changed my clothes, and my sister started asking, "Kaisa tha farewell? Kya kya kiya?"

I answered her… but my mind was still somewhere else.

After that, I went to my bed.

And that night...,as I lay on my bed, staring at the ceiling, replaying every single moment again and again, from getting ready… to seeing him in that black blazer… to that one last glance in the parking area, I kept asking myself the same question—was that really the end? or just a pause? I didn't have any answer, only a strange feeling in my heart that something was still left, something incomplete, and slowly, without even realizing, I held my phone in my hand, opened it, and just stared at the screen for a few seconds, thinking whether I should do something or not, whether I should just let everything end like this or take one step for the first time, my fingers moved slightly… then stopped again, my heart beating faster than usual, and at that exact moment… a notification popped up on my screen, and the moment I saw it, I completely froze, my eyes stuck on those few words, unable to process what I was seeing, because it was something I never expected… something that could change everything, and for the first time that night, I wasn't just thinking anymore… I was shocked. 💫

Or maybe… something that never even started.

---

But somewhere deep inside…

I still felt…

This wasn't the end.

Because sometimes…

Stories don't end where we think they do.

And maybe…

Something was still waiting.

Something I never expected…

And what happened next…

was something I could have never imagined. 💫
