Chapter 1 - The First Thread

A quiet chilling wind announces the arrival of sun.

The sludge like light flows down to ruined earth, thick with hateful oppression.

Slimy with warmth it drips its first glow onto the long away lives beneath it.

Together they seem to sense the incoming radiance and lift their heads towards the sky for a split second before resuming the war to continue their life.

Morning has risen.

* * *

A small spider sat in its fractal of a home, peaceful, unmoving.

The web stretched between two cold pillars, what those pillars were the spider could not care for anymore than it understood the world around it.

Suddenly a twitch of the web caught the spiders attention, the primitive mind that had evolved over billions of years and countless generations directed it towards the twitching in hope of finding prey.

Where it felt the thrashing from the arachnid found a creature, its two forwards eyes locked onto the struggling prey, did it feel pity, for the life that struggled against inevitability?

Its dagger like fangs sink into the trashing body and it feels something leave from its teeth.

The life struggles more.

Futile.

It then sits there fangs sunk deep in its head until the struggling stops and the insides become a nutrient sludge.

Survival is met for another day.

As it drinks the melted goo it vaguely senses two massive figures rush behind it creating drafts of wind with every booming step they took, they began to speak.

"And your sure of this? Even knowing you could do otherwise?"

The words vibrate but the spider filters them as background noise, not a threat not benefit to survival.

"Positive"

The spider crawls back towards the centre of its original point and settles back down, perhaps life would continue for it like this eternally, it did not truely understand death after all.

"'Positive' Oh sure, so very positive... Are you stupid? This isn't a matter of your skills anymore but just a coin flip for life. Worlds above must you be so utterly brickheaded?!"

The spiders felt its threads loosening as the creature paced back and forth, quickly it rushed to the pillars and began to forge its home anew as its ancestors would have done millions of years ago.

"Magnus, I just hoped you would see my vie-"

"Your View!? Your view is a pitiful suicide dressed in the clothes of Fake Innovation!!"

The spider reinforced its webs, it spun furiously, pale threads spilling onto the wounded home.

"I'll be fine, The data doesn't even require us to be there for an extended amount of time, just a few days and we'll be out with everything we initially need"

"Oh a 'Few Days' is it now? A 'Few Days' in a hole we tore open that leads who knows where!? A 'Few Days' in a tear we ripped to shreds to satisfy our desire to see out the universe given to us?! I'm sure you'll be just fine being thrown into a void of who cares what!?"

Magnus in his furious gestures failed to realise he had walked through a spiderweb and tore the intricate mansion into the wind leaving the spider to cling confused to a metal pillar. Its mind could not comprehend the being before it, neither did it need to, so it pulled yet another thread, and began to build.

"...Magnus, please you know why"

Magnus upon hearing those words seemed to pause for a split second, his wildly flailing arms sank down, pulling a ornate onyx pen from his pocket he stared at it for a second before shoving it back and walking away, his flapping white lab coat waved gently as he left.

A web is being spun

* * *

Evander was hunched over a thick book, the dim natural light peered into his blinds and barely illuminated the words on the dusty page.

'Page-264'

'The Leaving of our original Star System'

'During the Year 4021 Apollo Nova led the Tri-Planetary Alliance against the Originator splinter factions in a hundred year Cold War competing to leave Humanities original Star System, both sides held the threat of obliteration against one another with them both having, now outlawed, early stage BIOD weapons(Biological Information Observation and Disposal), For more Information on BIOD's see Page 235 [Discovery of Biological Erasure]'

Evander flipped forwards, this page held nothing of value for him.

'Page-279'

'The Chaotic Years'

'After the Conclusion of the 3rd Interplanetary War, Apollo Nova and his friend of that time Atlas Exires created the earliest recorded creation of Light-Speed technology which allowed them to suppress the various uprisings from the self proclaimed 'Harbinger Cult' who declared that Humankind would be doomed beneath the rule of Apollo, For more Information on Apollo Nova see Page 161 [The First Great Intergalactic Leader of Mankind] and Page 437 [Nova and The Theory of Infinity] and Page 59 [The Scientist of Tomorrow]'

Evander ignored the page and continued flipping through the book with a unceasingly serious expression.

'Page 293'

'The Sage of Moons'

'Page 310'

'The Star Stream Contract'

'Page 352'

'The Treaty of Finarius'

'Page 394'

'First Recorded Usage of MSA'

'Page 423'

'Discovery of Alien Life'

'Page 469'

'Nano-Plague of the Carlem Star System'

Evander skimmed and flipped eyes taking time to register each one before moving on, This was not urgent, this was but a clean up he had to yet again ensure, The pages he needed were here, He had no doubt.

And so there it was.

So thin compared to the other pages but all the more valuable for it.

'Page 757'

'To not Gaze more than one should'

'By Apollo Nova'

'Dear Reader, I would love to prattle on about the fascinating fact that I, yes me, have been deemed such an important person, enough to add many of my stories to this book. Its strange how I, a mere human among trillions, have reached such standing. But this is not a reminiscence time for me, I have lived long, I have, Loved, Hated, Questioned, Despaired and seen countless things but my limited self has just one request.'

'Do not pry into the secrets beyond what we are given'

'I know that as a man dubbed 'The Scientist of Tomorrow' I should wish for our ever-expending technology's to reach into the forbidden places, to wrangle the universes secrets and beyond, but to those of the future, No matter how far into desperation we grow, No matter if the universe itself runs low of resources to sustain us.'

'Do not attempt to leave this universe, Do not try tear holes into the web of the reality that holds us, We cannot afford the consequences'

'My Future readers, please heed an Old Mans dying words, I have peered into the Abyss, I dare not let you, as I have, experience the Abyss looking back'

'Do not be like this foolish Old Man and let your curiosity gain more power than it every has a right to'

'Be well People of the Future and I ensure my burdens to you'

Evander seeing this smirked, and with one swift motion ripped the pages from the book gave them a small shake before tucking the aged nano-fiber page into his coat pocket.

Hours after his leaving the abandoned archive a raging wildfire enveloped it and the ghost town it resided in ablaze. How bright it was...

Indeed

Humanity's future was bright.
