Shawn's POV,
At the gate of the Governor's residence, I barely even rang the bell or knocked when a small section of it opened, as though the guards inside had already been expecting me.
The presence of security was immediate, controlled, and sharp, like they had been trained to notice even the slightest disturbance before it happened.
"Can I help you?" one of them asked. His voice was deep and serious, and the way he looked at me suggested he had already decided I was not someone to take lightly.
"Yes," I answered calmly, keeping my tone low. "I was offered a job here. Mr. Green's bodyguard."
He did not respond immediately. Instead, his eyes moved over me slowly, from my head down, assessing.
"Stay here while I confirm that," he said finally.
I did not say anything. I simply stood there as he closed the gate again, leaving me outside with nothing but my thoughts and the growing tension in my chest.
Twenty minutes passed.
