Chapter 4 - My Noble Home

Honestly, if you were to ask any reader what is the worst trope one can get transmigrated into, I and a million others would have said a multiple drama trope. It usually feels like she never gets to rest before another thing is thrown at her.

To watch them is lovely as the twists would keep you on your feet, but from the perspective of the transmigrators, it must look like hell. And after today, I can give a personal testimony:

It truly does feel like hell.

I was at the market selling my boar meat peacefully when a noble lady was knocked down to the ground. Being a well-raised and well-mannered girl that I am, I went and helped her up.

Only for her to look at me with wide eyes and tell me I look exactly like her when she was young.

She dragged me to the inn she was staying at and did a blood test. As I watched the blood mix, a deep sense of dread started to seep in. A switched at birth trope? Really?

"Sweet child, what is your name? Or do you have one?"

"Yes, I do. My name is Su Jingxin."

She holds her mouth as she fights back sobs. "How did you… how were you able to go by that name?"

I look at her, puzzled, hoping she would keep talking.

"Before you were taken, that was the name your father and I chose for you."

What kind of crazy coincidence is this? So it wasn't a random transmigration; it was actually a transmigration to a character with the same name. Though I don't remember this plot happening in the script.

I can think of that later. Now, I probably should find something to tell my supposed new mother.

"My adoptive parents, when they found me, they found a piece of clothing with those characters on it and decided to give me that name."

"Alright. Where are they? I should meet them and thank them properly for helping my little girl grow to be this big."

"Madam, there's no need for that. They had sadly passed some few years back."

"Don't worry, okay? No need to feel sad. Now that Mother has found you, I will make sure you become the most beautiful young lady in all of our great kingdom."

She takes my hand into hers. "Would you like to come home with your mother?"

"Madam, please, I need some time to think about it. When I come to a conclusion, I will get back to you. If there's nothing else, then please excuse me, Madam."

I swiftly walk out of the inn and start sprinting back towards the village. What sort of messed-up situation is this?

None of this happened in the script, and if storylines can randomly pop up, that means even the script isn't reliable.

I reach my house and jump into my bed, completely ignoring Zhou'er.

What am I to do exactly?

"Hey, is something bothering you? We have stayed together for about a month now. You should be able to tell me, right?"

"I helped a noble woman today, and she told me that she is my biological mother and she wants to take me back home with her."

"Okay?"

"I genuinely just want to live a peaceful life, and if I get involved with the nobility, the chances of that taking place are so slim they are almost non-existent. So, I don't know what to do."

"Wouldn't you like to get to know your real family?"

"I would, but…"

"But you're scared. Scared of the troubles, the stress, and the possibility that they might not like you even after taking you back."

I simply nod.

"Well, that sounds nothing like the strong girl I know. The strong girl who can singlehandedly kill a wild boar."

He lets out a soft chuckle.

"Su Jingxin!"

"Yes?"

"Follow your heart."

"My heart is genuinely telling me to stay right here."

He gives me a pointed look.

"How about this: you go with her. If they treat you poorly or you find out you no longer want any involvement with that life or the Su family, you can come back here."

"But what about you?"

"I'm already healed, so there is no need to worry. If you ever need me for anything, I will come without any hesitation. So, lie down, rest, and tomorrow go back and see what awaits you."

I listen to him, and by the crack of dawn, I find myself outside the inn once more.

"Madam Su… No, Mother. I am willing to go with you."
