Chapter 11 - Chapter 11

Chapter 11

"This cannot be happening" I thought to myself, shivering with my hoodie drenched from the rain. Why was it raining in the middle of march for God's sake. I pulled my phone out of my bag to call an Uber but then it suddenly hit me.

The meeting.

I had to call him to reschedule, there was no way I was going to be able to go home and get changed before 1pm. I opened my phone to call but I decided against it and opened the messages app instead sending a message that didn't reveal too much.

Me:Rain check, something came up.

Matthew: Alright then.

Thank God he didn't ask any questions, the last thing I needed was someone questioning me. I tried to call for an Uber but the closest one was about an hour away.

The rain had reduced a bit and my bakery was a little close, so I decided I could just walk really fast and hide out there till the rain fully stopped.

I looked down the street and saw a sleek white Chevrolet corvette looking so out of place in this neighbourhood driving in my direction.

My phone started ringing, Matthew's name flashing across the screen, I picked wondering what he wanted.

Matthew: Are you on a blue hoodie?

Me: What?

I replied standing at the bus stop confused.

"Fuck" I said as the white car from across the street earlier in front of me and slowly wound his glass down as he looked down on me from his car as I just stood there wet and freezing.

"Oh you meant rain check literally," he smirked. His perfectly white teeth suddenly reminded me why I despised him and his smug face.

"Fuck you" I said

"I'd have to pass on that unfortunately." he said cruelly reminding me that I dug my own grave. I pulled my hoodie down like it could do anything to cover up the state I was in.

I wrapped my fingers around the cold metal door and pulled the door open. The faint scent of leather and his musky scent drifted to me as I slid in and leaned into the seat.

"Do you not have a weather app on your phone?" he laughed at me as I ignored him.

I wonder if he was still going to be laughing when he realised that I was absolutely going to ruin his precious car seat.

Water dripped from the ends of my two braids as I squeezed them on the car floor wanting to piss him off as much as possible but I failed because he just looked unbothered.

I was kind of relieved that I decided to put my hair in braids today, because God knows I would have been in an even worse state if I had my hair out.

"If you were actually paying attention in geography class you would know that it doesn't rain in March, you dumbass." I said my face turning red in anger.

God I was so easy to ragebait.

He pulled out of the curb and started driving in the direction of the breakfast restaurant we initially agreed on meeting at.

"Let's just go to my bakery instead" I paused "It's just around the corner"

"You have a bakery and you didn't tell me about?" he asked

"Yeah, because we're very close friends or something" I said my voice laced with sarcasm.

"You don't have to sound so mean" he said pretending to be hurt.

He pulled up to my bakery, the windows closed and the rain now coming in drizzles as we jogged to the door. What a sight, seeing him in his black suit and tie jumping to get out of the rain.

I pulled out the keys from my bag and unlocked the door with a small creak as I switched on the overhead lights the room coming to life

Matthew softly coughing behind me reminded me that I actually came here with someone.

"Make yourself comfortable or whatever" I said as he pulled a stool from the table to sit

"I will" he said as he crossed his legs and glared at me

"I need to change out of this, don't do anything stupid" I said as I went to my office to check for spare clothes I usually kept here for emergencies.

It would surprise you how many times I've been too stubborn to wear an apron and ended up soiling my dress. I decided on a hoodie and some sweats, ditching my sports bra.

I went back to the front of the house to face the consequences of my actions.

The black suit he had on hugged his broad shoulders perfectly, tailored so well it made every movement look deliberate. The crisp blue shirt underneath was slightly undone at the collar, just enough to make him look not as corporate.

His sleeves were rolled back enough to reveal the expensive watch resting around his wrist, the veins in his hands visible when he adjusted his cufflinks. God I hated him but why did he suddenly look like a greek God to me.

I asked for this so I might as well.

Curse my curious self ,who knows I might end up gaining from this.

I highly doubt though the only thing I'll be gaining is an answer to the burning questions that have been repeating in my head.

Or maybe I would get answers that would never leave me the same.
