Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Last Delivery and the Golden Screen.

The Lagos sun was not merely a celestial body; it was an oppressor, a physical weight that pressed down on Tobi Bakare's shoulders. At 2:00 PM, the heat radiating off the asphalt of Ikorodu Road felt like a physical blow to his chest every time he inhaled. He adjusted his cracked helmet, the salt from his own sweat stinging his eyes as he maneuvered his battered delivery bike between two yellow Danfo buses. They were locked in a metallic embrace, aggressively fighting for an inch of space that didn't exist, their conductors hanging precariously off the sides, screaming insults that were swallowed by the roar of engines and horns.

"Olosho! Move that your 'okada' before I crush you and your ancestors!" one of the conductors screamed, spittle flying, as his bus lurched forward, missing Tobi's handlebar by mere millimeters.

Tobi didn't even blink. He didn't have the energy to trade insults, nor did he have the luxury of fear. His mind was stuck on a loop, replaying the text message that had vibrated against his thigh ten minutes ago. 'Tobi, the hospital says the deposit for Shade's surgery is ₦150,000. If we don't pay by Friday, they will discharge her. Tobi, please, do something.'

Friday. Today was Wednesday.

"Do something," Tobi muttered into the stifling, humid air of his helmet. His boss, Mr. Okeke, the owner of 'SpeedyChow Logistics,' would sooner give him a query for a late delivery than a ₦150k advance. Tobi's fingers tightened around the worn-out rubber of his handlebars. The grips were peeling, revealing the rusted, pitted metal beneath a mirror of his own life.

He was twenty-two years old, a web designer by training with a portfolio of sleek, modern designs that nobody in this chaotic city seemed to want. Instead of coding interfaces, he was now just another boy in a stained green vest, carrying lukewarm jollof rice to people who made more in an hour than he did in a month.

"God, if You're actually up there... just a sign. I'm not asking for a mansion. Just a way out," he whispered, his voice cracking from thirst.

Suddenly, the Lagos traffic pattern shifted. The Danfo buses surged forward, and a rare, open pocket appeared in the left lane. Tobi revved his engine, his aging bike coughing out black smoke as he aimed for the gap. But Lagos has a vicious sense of humor, punishing hope wherever it finds it.

A black Range Rover, its windows tinted so dark they seemed to absorb the sunlight, pulled out of a side street without a signal. Tobi slammed on his rear brake, but his tire was worn smooth. It skidded on the oily asphalt. In a panic, he squeezed the front brake too hard.

The bike buckled. The front tire hit one of Lagos's legendary potholes—a cavern deep enough to have its own gravity. Time seemed to warp. Tobi felt the sickening, weightless sensation of flight as he was launched over the handlebars. The world spun in a blur of blue sky, grey concrete, and the terrified face of a woman selling 'Agidi' by the roadside.

CRASH.

He hit the ground with the sound of a sack of wet cement. The air left his lungs in a painful rush. His helmet cracked against the road with a sickening, wet thud that should have been the end of his story. For a moment, there was only a terrifying silence, broken only by the smell of leaking petrol and the metallic tang of blood in his mouth.

He lay there on the hot asphalt, staring up at the hazy, smog-filled sky. Is this it? he wondered dully. Is this how I leave Shade alone? The thought of his little sister, waiting in that stark hospital bed, hurt worse than his body.

Then, a sound cut through the rising cacophony of the street. It wasn't a siren, and it wasn't the concerned or angry shouts of the crowd gathering around him. It was a crisp, crystalline, almost musical Ding!

A translucent golden screen materialized in the air, floating three feet above his broken body. Tobi blinked, certain that the head injury had finally induced a coma-induced hallucination. This was the kind of stuff he used to read about in the novels he devoured while waiting for web design clients who never showed up.

"System?" Tobi wheezed, blood trickling from a cut on his lip. "I... I'm a Nigerian delivery boy in Lagos. We don't get systems. We get 'suffer head'."

Error: Logic mismatch. The Universal Wealth System is indifferent to geolocation or job title.

Tobi's eyes nearly bulged out of his head, despite the pain. One million Naira. The numbers danced on the golden screen. That wasn't just surgery money; that was life-changing, sister-saving, move-out-of-the-slums money.

He didn't care if he was crazy. He didn't care if the pain in his arm was making him imagine things. In Lagos, you learn to grab any chance with both hands, even a hallucination that offers you a million Naira.

Timer Initialized: 14:50... 14:49... 14:48...

The red numbers were ticking down, each second feeling like a physical beat against his heart. Tobi pushed himself off the asphalt, his left arm screaming in protest as he ignored the blinding pain. He staggered over to his bike. It was twisted, the left mirror was gone, and the footrest was bent, but the engine was still idling, coughing black smoke into the afternoon air like it was determined to help him.

"One million Naira," Tobi growled, a guttural sound. He hoisted the bike up, using every ounce of strength he had left. He checked the delivery box—it was scuffed and dented, but miraculously, the 'Mega Family Pack' bag inside was still upright and sealed. "I don't care if I die after this. I'm finishing this trip."

He kicked the bike into gear and roared back into the Ikorodu traffic, weaving through the cars with a reckless determination he had never possessed before. He wasn't just Tobi the delivery boy anymore. He was a man chasing a miracle.

As he drove, a new feature appeared on his golden screen: [Pathfinder (Active).] A translucent green line now appeared on the road before him, guided by the System, showing him the optimal path through the traffic and around potential hazards. He leaned into the curves, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird, the wind whipping against his bruised, bloodied face. He felt like he was floating.

Distance Remaining: 2.5km. Time Remaining: 03:30.

He reached the imposing black gates of the mansion on Admiralty Way with three minutes to spare. The uniformed security guard looked at his battered bike, his bloodied face, and his torn green vest with immediate disgust. "Abeg, move back! We don't allow beggars or crazy people here!" the guard barked, placing a hand on his baton.

"Order for Chief Kunle!" Tobi gasped, thrusting the crumpled delivery receipt forward with his good hand. "Address is 14 Admiralty Way!"

The guard checked the receipt, his expression shifting from disgust to confusion. He hesitantly pressed the button to open the gate. Tobi didn't wait. He revved the engine, flew up the paved driveway to the front door, and nearly fell off his bike as he stopped. He handed the 'Mega Family Pack' to a confused housemaid who opened the door and then leaned heavily against his handlebars, gasping for air.

Objective Complete.
