Chapter 3 - Idea

Valo threw himself to the side. Just fast enough to not immediately get mauled by the bear. He hit the ground, but ignored the pain as he stood. He calmed his mind and visualized the rune his father had long taught him. The with two fast and decisive flicks of his wrist he aimed upwards and drew the rune with the needle.

A red smoke shot upwards high into the sky visible kilometers away. Then before Valo could do more he took running, since he heard the bear approaching

The good thing about mutated animals was that most often their intelligence was severely lower than a normal ones.

Valo dashed off the road into the tangle of bushes. Fortunately he was familiar with the surrounding forests of the village. A little further ahead there was a tree by a cliff that was a super easy climb and should keep him safe for a while while he waited for help.

Behind him he could hear the bear coming. As hard as the lush forest was for the bear to navigate, it was simply so much faster and stronger that it was still gaining on Valo. He simply, could not outrun a bear, much less a mutated one.

Valo's breath was whizzing, his legs aching. He had spurted without sparing anything and that was biting him in the ass. The cliff was still half a mile away. He would have to figure out something before the bear caught him.

Valo had never taken his old man's lessons seriously, after all he was set on becoming a tailor and didn't think he needed to ever fight in the future. He still had picked up some runes useful in combat, but wasn't proficient in any fitting for this situation.

Coming up with a plan he stopped. Valo stayed quiet, he listened as the bear rummaged through the forest. Started drawing the rune. Slowly, he couldn't afford a mistake. Then when he was just shy of finishing the rune, he stopped. Waited. patiently. And then he saw the bear. rushing towards him. 20 feet. 10 feet. 5 feet.

BOOM

A bright flash covered Valo's vision as he finished the rune and was thrown back.
