Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: The Breakthrough and the Scent of Stardust

The Omega-Tier dorm room was completely pitch black. Kaiser had drawn the heavy curtains shut, sealing off any trace of moonlight.

He sat cross-legged in the exact center of his narrow bed, entirely stripped of his clothing from the waist up. His skin was slick with sweat, his breath coming in ragged, highly controlled gasps.

Inside his chest, a war was raging.

The Genesis-Era mana that Principal Morgana had fed him was a terrifying, exquisite catalyst. His E+ Rank Abyssal core—already bloated from devouring the A-Rank Mire-Drake's acid—was currently gorging itself on the Arch-Witch's refined, dark energy.

Inhale the void. Exhale the frailty.

Kaiser pushed the [Basic Abyssal Breathing Technique] to its absolute limit. His veins bulged, glowing with a faint, bruised-purple luminescence against his pale skin. The agonizing pressure in his sternum felt as though his ribs were being slowly cranked apart by an iron winch.

"Come on," Kaiser gritted his teeth, his jaw locked tight. "Break."

The bloated, unstable mass of dark energy suddenly compressed. It shrank inward with a violent, localized gravitational pull, collapsing in on itself until it was no larger than a marble.

And then, it solidified.

A heavy, resonant BOOM echoed exclusively within Kaiser's soul. The ambient shadows in his dorm room whipped around him in a miniature cyclone before being violently sucked into his chest.

Kaiser let out a long, shuddering gasp, his eyes snapping open. The pure black void of his true form bled through his sapphire disguise for several seconds before slowly, steadily receding.

A beautiful, translucent blue screen materialized in the darkness.

[SYSTEM NOTIFICATION: CORE BREAKTHROUGH ACHIEVED!]

[Mana Core Level Upgraded: E+ Rank ➔ D-Rank (Pure Abyssal Core).]

[Physical Attributes Automatically Adjusted to match Core Density:]

Vitality: D+ ➔ C-

Strength: C- ➔ C

Agility: C ➔ C+

Mana Capacity: Increased by 300%.

[Skill Evolution Unlocked:]

[Basic Abyssal Breathing Technique (Lv. 4)] evolves into ➔ [Abyssal Circulation (Lv. 1)]: Host no longer needs to actively meditate to draw in ambient dark mana. The Core will now passively devour microscopic amounts of ambient energy to maintain optimal stamina.

Kaiser flopped backward onto his mattress, staring at the ceiling as a profound, heavy warmth settled into his bones.

He had done it. He had crossed the threshold of "trash tier" into the realm of the truly competent. A D-Rank core was the baseline standard for Academy graduation, and he had achieved it in his first month. More importantly, with his stats climbing steadily into the C-tier, his physical body was finally catching up to his combat intuition.

"I feel like I could arm-wrestle a troll," Kaiser murmured, clenching his fist. The sheer density of his new D-Rank core felt like a solid iron anchor resting comfortably in his chest.

He glanced at the glowing clock on his desk. It was 6:00 AM, Saturday morning.

"Time to shower off the sweat of a thousand tormented souls," Kaiser chuckled, rolling out of bed with a newfound, effortless grace.

The weekend atmosphere at Zenith Grand Academy was usually relaxed, but the Grand Dining Pavilion was buzzing with manic energy. The Mid-Term grades were being finalized, and the social hierarchy was shifting.

Kaiser entered the pavilion wearing his standard midnight-blue uniform, his [Aura Cloak] perfectly suppressing his new D-Rank core back down to an unassuming E-Rank hum. He grabbed a tray of somewhat edible eggs from the Omega line and made his way to his usual isolated corner.

He didn't even get to take his first bite.

Slam.

A tray piled high with premium, S-Rank Wyvern sausage and spiced potatoes was slammed onto the table directly across from him.

Seraphina dropped onto the wooden bench. She looked radiant, her crimson hair tied back in a high, aggressive ponytail, her uniform perfectly pressed. She didn't look like someone who had almost been dissolved in a swamp two days ago.

Since her Affection had crossed the 80% threshold, her entire demeanor toward him had shifted. The cruel bullying was gone, replaced by a fiercely possessive, deeply territorial loyalty.

"Good morning, Kaiser," she said, her golden eyes softening slightly as she looked at him. She reached across the table, pushing the premium Wyvern sausage onto his tray. "Eat this. Your core needs to rebuild after you overexerted yourself against the Drake."

"You're too good to me, Seraphina," Kaiser smiled, picking up his fork.

Before he could stab a piece of sausage, the temperature in the corner of the pavilion instantly plummeted. A thin, jagged layer of frost raced across the wooden table, stopping exactly one inch away from Kaiser's tray.

Princess Valeria Vespera glided to a halt beside their table. She wore a casual, elegantly tailored white winter coat trimmed with silver fur. She didn't have a tray. She simply stood there, looking down at Seraphina with an expression of pure, unadulterated disdain.

"I see the stray dog has found her way to the table again," Valeria stated coldly.

Seraphina's jaw clenched, her hand drifting toward the empty space on her hip where her sword would normally hang. "And I see the local blizzard is still blowing hot air. Are you lost, Princess? The Elite tables are that way."

"I sit where I please," Valeria replied smoothly, gracefully taking the seat directly to Kaiser's right, completely ignoring Seraphina's murderous glare.

Valeria turned to Kaiser, her silver eyes immediately scanning his face for any signs of fatigue. "How is your mana pathway, Kaiser? Are you experiencing any residual burning from the swamp?"

"I'm perfectly fine, Your Highness," Kaiser replied smoothly, chewing a piece of sausage. "A good night's sleep does wonders."

Valeria leaned in slightly closer, her silver eyes narrowing. Her SS-Rank core granted her incredibly heightened senses, particularly toward ambient mana signatures.

She stopped, her perfectly sculpted nose twitching microscopically.

Across the table, Seraphina also paused. Her combat instincts were equally sharp. She leaned forward, sniffing the air directly around Kaiser's uniform.

The two girls exchanged a rapid, highly suspicious look before their gazes simultaneously locked onto Kaiser with terrifying intensity.

Otaku's Insight: CRITICAL WARNING. Foreign mana signature detected on Host's person. Target [Valeria] and Target [Seraphina] have initiated an impromptu alliance based on mutual suspicion.

Kaiser froze, his fork hovering mid-air.

"Kaiser," Valeria's voice was completely devoid of its usual soft possessiveness. It was brittle, sharp, and chilling. "Why does your uniform smell like nebula smoke?"

Seraphina's golden eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "And crushed orchids. It's a perfume. An incredibly heavy, incredibly expensive perfume."

Dammit, Kaiser thought, a bead of cold sweat rolling down the back of his neck. The Arch-Witch's pocket dimension. Her scent must have seeped into my clothes when she straddled me.

"I... went for an early morning walk," Kaiser offered an entirely relaxed, deeply charming smile, though his heart was beating a rapid staccato. "Through the botanical gardens. The orchids are lovely this time of year."

"The Academy botanical gardens do not cultivate deep-void orchids," Valeria countered instantly, leaning closer, her silver eyes practically glowing with forensic analysis. "Furthermore, the mana residue clinging to your collar is... ancient. It is incredibly dense."

"Did you meet someone last night?" Seraphina demanded, her voice dropping to a low, territorial growl. She placed her hands flat on the table, leaning across it. "After the trial? Who did you go see, Kaiser?"

Two immensely powerful, fiercely possessive young women were currently staring at him like he was a piece of meat caught in a very dangerous trap. Valeria was ready to freeze whoever he had met into an ice sculpture, and Seraphina was ready to hack them to pieces.

Kaiser desperately sifted through his options. He couldn't lie; Valeria's sensory abilities were too sharp. But he absolutely could not tell them he was having midnight mana-exchanges with the immortal Principal. That wouldn't just trigger a harem conflict; it would trigger an international diplomatic crisis.

"Alright, alright," Kaiser sighed, holding his hands up in a gesture of surrender. He lowered his voice, leaning in so only they could hear. "You caught me. But you must promise to keep your voices down."

Both girls leaned in instantly, their expressions identical masks of furious curiosity.

"As you know," Kaiser began smoothly, "my performance in the written exam was... unusually flawless."

Valeria nodded slowly. She remembered his perfect score.

"The Headmaster and the administration took notice," Kaiser continued, his sapphire eyes entirely sincere. "And because my outward magical output is so pathetic, they suspected I cheated. Specifically, they suspected I used a high-tier comprehension artifact."

Seraphina scoffed. "You didn't cheat. You're just... surprisingly well-read."

"I know that, and you know that," Kaiser smiled gently at his sister, which successfully derailed her anger for a fraction of a second. "But the administration demanded proof. Last night, I was summoned to the central spire."

Valeria's breath hitched. "The central spire? You were taken to the Arch-Witch?"

"Exactly," Kaiser nodded grimly, perfectly playing the role of the beleaguered student. "Principal Thorne personally interrogated me. She placed me under a localized truth-ward and subjected me to a grueling three-hour academic review in her office to verify my knowledge."

He intentionally brushed his collar, right where the phantom scent of Morgana lingered.

"Her office is completely saturated with her personal mana and that dreadful pipe smoke she constantly puffs on," Kaiser complained, wrinkling his nose in feigned distaste. "I spent hours trapped in a chair while she grilled me on Genesis-Era runic translation. The scent practically baked into my uniform. I haven't had time to send it to the laundry golems yet."

The silence stretched.

Kaiser used [Otaku's Insight] to monitor their micro-expressions.

Valeria's rigid posture relaxed instantly. The sheer, overwhelming relief that he had been in a forced academic interrogation with a 3,000-year-old faculty member, rather than a romantic tryst with a rival student, completely pacified her Yandere trigger.

"I see," Valeria murmured, the terrifying chill evaporating from the air. "To subject a student to such an intensive interrogation on a Friday evening is... highly unorthodox. I shall have a word with the Headmaster about faculty overreach."

"Please don't," Kaiser laughed nervously. "I passed the review. If the Crown gets involved, she might decide to hold me for another three hours just to spite you."

Seraphina slumped back onto her bench, exhaling a long breath. The volcanic jealousy in her chest cooled. "You should have told me you were summoned. I would have waited up for you."

"I didn't want to worry you," Kaiser smiled, picking his fork back up, mentally wiping the sweat from his brow. Crisis averted. The system owes me hazard pay for this.

Before the conversation could shift back to a comfortable, possessive tug-of-war over his breakfast, a deafening, magical chime echoed throughout the entire Academy. It wasn't the standard class bell; it was the heavy, brassy resonance of the Imperial Summons.

Every student in the pavilion stopped eating.

Instructor Varg's magically amplified voice boomed from the central courtyard, carrying into every hall.

"All First-Year students, report to the Grand Arena immediately. The Imperial Envoy has arrived. Attendance is mandatory."

Valeria's silver eyes narrowed, her aristocratic composure turning entirely rigid. "The Imperial Envoy? They aren't scheduled to visit for another two months."

Seraphina stood up, her hand instinctively resting on her hip. "Something's wrong."

Kaiser finished his Wyvern sausage, a slow, anticipating smirk forming on his lips. The game was introducing a new event.

"Well, ladies," Kaiser stood up, casually slipping his hands into his pockets. "Shall we go see what the Empire wants?"

As they walked together toward the Grand Arena, flanked by fire and ice, Kaiser couldn't shake the feeling that the 'Survival' part of his Seducing Survival Odyssey was about to take center stage once again.
