Chapter 6: A New Family and a New Life

It was already 8:00 PM. Amar sat in the luxury car, staring out the window at the dark, gathe ring clouds. This was his first time in succh a grand vehicle, and a whirl wind of questions raced through his mind. What would the house be like? Who would be there? How would they treat him?

Suddenly, the car came to a halt. Before him stood a massive mansion, its gates guarded by security. As the gates swung open, the guard offered a respectful salute. The car glided inside, and Mr. Mehra led Amar into the house.

Inside, an elderly man was cleaning his spectacles on the sofa, while an elderly woman sat nearby, meticulously noting down the household accounts in a notebook. Shanti, the house help, rushed to open the door. Amar was awestruck. The lobby was vast, the dining area grand, and a majestic staircase led to several rooms upstairs. To the Mehra family, it was home; to Amar, it was a palace.

The elderly woman approached them, followed by the man. "Who is this lovely child?" she asked, her eyes brimming with warmth.

"Tell us, son," the man added, "who is this innocent boy you've brought home?" These were Mr. Mehra's parents.

"I'll tell you everything, Mom, Dad. Just have a little patience," Mr. Mehra replied. He then called out toward the kitchen, "Vedika! Vedika, come here quickly! See what a beautiful blessing God has sent to our home today."

Vedika, Mr. Mehra's wife, stepped out of the kitchen holding a glass of water. Seeing Amar, she set the glass down on a table and looked at her husband with a curious smile.

Mr. Mehra drew Amar into an embrace. "Vedika, from today, he is our son. He will live with us as a part of this family."

A profound silence fell over the room, but it was a silence filled with joy. Vedika looked at him, confused. "Beta, I don't understand... what do you mean?"

Mr. Mehra then recounted the entire story—from the moment Amar accidentally came in front of his car to everything he had learned about the boy's past. As they listened, their hearts melted with sympathy. Vedika, an emotional woman by nature, had tears in her eyes. She walked up to Amar, huged him tightly, and whispered, "From today, I am your mother."

"Wait, we are here too!" Mr. Mehra's mom chimed in, walking toward them. "I am your Dadi (grandmother)."

"And I am your Dada ji ," his father added. "You are not alone anymore. From this moment on, your name is Amar Mehra."

Amar had been given a new identity. He stood there, overwhelmed by the outpouring of love. He wanted to speak, to thank them, but his heart was so full that the words remained trapped in his throat. Suddenly, the world began to spin. Overwhelmed by exhaustion and emotion, Amar fainted and collapsed.

"Beta! What happened?" everyone cried out in panic.

"Shanti, get some water, quickly!" Vedika shouted. She sprinkled some water on his face, and after a few moments, Amar slowly opened his eyes. "Are you alright, son?" she asked softly. Amar gave a weak nod.

Mr. Mehra carried him to a large, beautiful bedroom. As Amar was placed on the soft, cushioned bed, a sense of peace washed over him. Vedika called the doctor for a check-up.

"Why did he faint, Doctor?" she asked anxxiously.

"The boy hasn't eaten in a long time," the doctor explained. "It was just a dizzy spell from weakness. Nothing to worry about."

After the doctor left, Vedika insisted, "I'm going to eat dinner right here in this room with my son."

"He isn't just your son!" the others teased, laughing. "We're all going to eat here with him today."

Amar sat quietly, his naturally shy nature keeping him silent, but a rare spark of happiness danced in his eyes. Shanti brought the food, and they all ate together, chatting and laughing.

"Dadi maa, will you sleep here with me?" Amar asked softly.

Delighated, his dadi maa agreed. As the others retired to their rooms, she stayed back, stroking his hair and telling him stories. Resting his head in her lap, Amar finally drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep.

As a new sun rises, will the luxury and wealth of his new life make Amar forget the girl he left behind? Or will his heart still beat for Radha?
