Chapter 70 - Another Shock

Ever since the last online firestorm, Nick's personal X account had exploded with followers. Everyone was dying to know what made this legendary boy genius tick. However, most were left disappointed; after the initial hype, Nick's feed had gone ghost.

That changed Monday morning. Nick's personal handle, 'Watcher,' finally posted an update—a short video with a minimalist caption:

"The new personal assistant I hired is working out pretty well."

Seconds later, the company's official account retweeted it with a playful jab: "Boss, don't forget to give us a raise."

At first, people figured it was just a routine engagement post. But as they clicked play, the comments section turned into a digital riot. Users expected a video of a boss talking to a secretary, but the deeper they got, the more their jaws dropped.

This wasn't a person. The female voice in the video wasn't human.

Holy crap—it looked like they'd just stumbled onto a world-class secret.

Excited netizens began retweeting and dissecting the clip. Some, looking to stir the pot, started tagging major tech influencers and news outlets. Within two hours and eight minutes, the post had gone nuclear, rocketed by famous bloggers to the number two spot on the trending list.

As major media outlets and independent creators dog-piled on the story, the short video was picked up by mainstream news, setting the entire internet ablaze.

Renowned tech blogger 'Star Gazer' posted: "The reason this went viral so fast is the intersection of our fascination with and fear of AI. If this footage is legit, it's the invention of the century.

Giving a cold machine program a sense of 'emotion' is a massive leap forward. I'm not sure how far Nick and Militech have pushed this, but if it's real, we're standing on the doorstep of a new era."

Another editor, 'I Want Quiet,' was more skeptical. He wrote: "First, we need to verify the authenticity. Is this a Militech PR stunt or actual lab data? Second, if it's a real AI, has it passed a Turing Test? Was this a rehearsed script or a random interaction? There's a huge gap between the two. Nick and Militech need to respond. Technology shouldn't be used as a hype tool for clicks."

Then, the 'Cannon' of the tech world, CEO Robby Ziren, finally weighed in.

"I've been bombarded with this all morning. Honestly? It's nothing special—just some voice test samples. The video's authenticity is debatable, and the news reports are blowing it way out of proportion. All this talk about AI taking over the world is total BS. It's cool that these kids built something, but I'm worried they're losing their way and resorting to 'stunt science' for attention. I've seen it before.

My advice? Get back in the lab and stop announcing 'world-changing' tech every five minutes. If it were that easy, we wouldn't need thousands of researchers working 24/7; we'd just talk our way to progress."

Predictably, as soon as 'Cannon Robby' fired off, his army of sycophants swarmed Nick's mentions with insults. The harassment moved from the public feed to private messages—thousands of them, ranging from death threats and 'well-meaning' lectures to business proposals and people begging for money.

Nick hadn't expected this. He'd intended the video to be a soft launch, a little teaser to build a foundation for their next move. He didn't think one clip would drop them right back into the eye of the hurricane.

"Hey, Nick! It hasn't been that long, kid. How do you keep starting these fires?" Bill called him from D.C. the second he saw the news. "Is that video the real deal?"

He wasn't the only one. Calls flooded in from the Microelectronics Research Institute and even Ryan at DJI.

"Hey, Nicholas, it's Xu Xiaoya from Ali. I saw you're making headlines again. Ali is deep into AI research—why don't we talk about a partnership?" Her tone was warm and sisterly, a total 180 from the high-tension negotiations they'd had before. Suddenly, they were old friends.

The influx of calls was a massive headache. Eventually, Nick just killed his phone and retreated into the lab to tune out the world. This left poor Tyler to handle the fallout. The Deputy GM spent the afternoon tethered to a charger, 'patiently' explaining the situation to everyone who couldn't reach Nick.

Finally, at Tyler's desperate pleading, Nick posted a follow-up on X:

"Every new technology is born from a thousand failures and a sea of doubt. We aren't afraid of the storm; we have the grit to face it.

This system isn't perfect yet; she still has a long way to go. Our team is working around the clock to get her ready for the world.

My creation is like a daughter who has just grown up, still hidden away and unknown.

She's currently in her studies—learning the arts, the sciences, and the nuances of human connection.

When the day comes for her to debut, she'll be ready to find a partner she can truly understand—someone she can walk beside through all of life's changes."
