Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: I Hate Trials

Caius sat in the prison cell he was given after that woman named Merlin had captured him.

Kraven was sleeping at his side as usual.

'Lazy ass.' He thought as he glanced at the dragon with a pout on his face.

Caius willed the mysterious power within him to manifest—and the familiar blue screen appeared, but he scanned over the details he already knew. A thought crossed his mind; what if he pressed one of the magical abilities he had? He did so and pressed on Destabilization magic without expecting much.

The screen changed and the magic he wanted to look at appeared.

[Destabilization Magic ]

[mastery: 0%]

[Application ]

[ Destabilization magic—a form if magical affinity that falls under the special category of magic, this form of magic allows the caster to be able to influence all types of magic by seeing their core and causing an imbalance In the magical structure of the magic effectively undoing them. Not to be confused with a total cancelation of magic. ]

Caius' eye widened. He has such a high cheat code ability under his arsenal? It was simply unfair.

He looked at the Flora around his wrists and he closed his eye focusing his magic on the vines, the plants magical structure materialized in his mind and his metaphysical hand grabbed it. He opened his hand feeling the vines weaken and he smirked.

This was a huge development.

The elven guards walked into the prison and opened his cell. "Let's go! Your trial begins!"

'I bloody hate trials.' He thought and picked up Kraven. He placed the dragon on his shoulder and walked to the open gate.

The two guards led him through halls and finally after what seemed like eons, the exit to the Neverending maze was in sight.

Caius could hear the chanting of the elves from where he was.

'Gained some fans ey?' Kraven spoke yawning as he blinked the sleep away.

Caius groaned. 'You know, you are a pain in the ass right?'

Kraven laughed at his response. The boy was not a bore, the amusement he was getting was a way to pass time.

"This way." The guard pointed at the exit.

Caius nodded and offered thanks to the guard—and he walked to the exit closing his eye in the process as the light blinded him temporarily; the cheers and gasps from the elves dwarfed everything else when they saw a human walk into the grounds.

Caius looked at the coliseum like stage with all the bystanders and his eye settled on the arch in the distance where Carla sat, dressed in a v-cut dress that did nothing to hide her chest. She had his robe in her hands and standing beside her seat was a man with long white hair, dark-skin complexion and striking silver eyes.

The man raised his hand and silence reigned over the arena. His silver eyes gazed at Caius. "Human do you know you have broken the sacred rule of this forest?"

Caius shook his head. "Not at all your majesty."

The king of the elves continued with his speech after Caius' response. "Not only that, but you had my daughter as hostage as well…truly vile."

The bystanders gasped at the revelation and whispers started spreading among the people.

Kraven hollered at the accusation. 'Hear that? You kidnapped their precious princess! Truly a villain. How vile.'

Caius gritted his teeth. "Shut up before I skin you furball." He looked at the king in the eye. "Your majesty there has been a misunderstanding, I did not hold your daughter hostage, I was returning her home after i rescued her and I want help regarding something."

"Is that so?"

Caius nodded to the king's question—he watched as the king snapped his fingers and the vines on his hands crumbled. "Thank you…"

"But that being said, you still broke the law of this forest as such you are to prove you aren't a detriment to us…" the king said and the people cheered a bit. He raised his hand again. "You are to be judged by Merlin."

On queue a shadow came above Caius and he dodged as the shadow impacted the ground causing it to be upheaved a bit.

Caius watched as the dust cloud disappeared and Merlin stood there with her sword out for the world to see, the arena erupted in cheers, with the elves chanting Merlin's name over and over.

"Brace yourself human." She spat as she circled her foot before her left and held the sword to her side, level to her face.

Caius blinked and his eye panicked—the woman was no longer there, he felt the air density behind him change and he ducked under a swipe to his neck. He and Kraven rolled on the ground and came to a stop just meters away from Merlin.

Merlin was impressed. "You are quick."

"Gee… thanks." satire rolled off Caius tongue as he replied.

He pointed his hand at Merlin and a massive, blue fireball ignited to life. He shot it at the woman only to be surprised by what followed next.

"Elven command: Flame rend." Merlin calmly articulated as her sword gained a blue hue and she swung it vertically splitting the fireball into two.

She disappeared again and reappeared behind Caius—she swung her sword down and Caius shifted to the side only to get kicked in the ribs sending him flying into the wall.

Caius crashed on the wall and rolled to the ground coughing. "That hurts." He uttered as he got up and wiped the blood trail from the edge of his mouth.

He looked at the dragon sleeping on the ground and his eyebrows twitched. 'You shit stain, get up.' He yelled at Kraven in his mind but the dragon simply ignored him.

Caius ducked under a leg as it struck the wall of the coliseum cracking the walls upto the guardrails separating the watchers.

He glanced at the woman who was now looking at him. "Lady, I am not here with some ulterior motives I just want help. "

"Sure you do." Merlin clapped her hands together. "Flower field." She whispered as her mana spiked and the ground rumbled as vines erupted from the ground.

The aoe of the attack forced Caius to jump on the rising vines as he distanced himself.

'Now or never!' His mana focused on his eye and a magic circle drew itself around his ocular, the circle glowed red and the technique his opponent was using unfolded in his eyes—the center of it all, the mana structure He saw and he reached out his hand grabbing on the metaphysical bonds within the structure.

"Break!"

He grasped the structure and pulled it apart, shattering the structure of the magical attack Merlin used.

The vines as quick as they grew all crumbled much to Merlin's shock as the boy had performed something super advanced in the field of magic use, a magical ability that even high rank magic practitioners struggled with.

The tempering of magic structures.

Destabilization Magic, a special class of magic that was outside of the recorded classes of magic.

A very rare affinity.

"You are a monster kid!" She complimented as she grinned.

Their battle placed the spectators of the edge, as they awaited to see what the boy huffing and puffing was going to do next.

Even the king was intrigued by the trial.

Carla watched with concern, her hands clutched on the robe harder.

" please be safe."
