[April 3, 2026 – 18:23 PM. V.G.U. Base No. 3, Minato-gawa]
Minato-gawa was a bustling port city, a place where the rhythm of life never drifted into sleep. Beneath the falling night, colossal suspension bridges stood tall, their massive steel cables glowing under neon lights that shimmered upon the great river splitting the city's heart. Traffic hummed, and citizens hurried through their daily routines, cocooned in the absolute sense of security that the V.G.U. had sowed for years.
But the river's surface changed in an instant.
There was no warning. The placid water suddenly erupted into white foam, churning and bubbling like a giant cauldron of boiling oil. Waves surged high, crashing violently against the concrete embankments and obliterating fortified barriers.
From the dark depths of the riverbed, an eerie crimson glow—the signature of a spatial rift—suddenly flared, illuminating the murky water.
Then, the river exploded.
A massive silhouette tore through the surface, looming upward with crushing pressure. Kaiju Category 4 — Codename: Carcinox. Its gargantuan size immediately blotted out a corner of the Minato-gawa night sky. The Kelyte armor covering its body was jagged with protrusions like inverted mountain peaks. Tons of river water cascaded from two grotesque claws as they reached toward the heavens.
A deafening, bone-shaking roar erupted, sending a shockwave that swept away billboards along the shore.
Carcinox swung one of its massive claws. With the raw power of a natural disaster, the claw slammed down, crushing the city's largest suspension bridge in a single stroke. Steel shrieked as it buckled and snapped. Tension cables whipped through the air before the entire bridge span collapsed. Hundreds of cars plummeted into the roiling river like lifeless toys. On the shore, people screamed in panic, trampling one another to flee the deadly embankment.
Simultaneously, deep within V.G.U. Base No. 3, the highest-level alarm shattered the silence of the central command room. Every light switched to an emergency crimson.
"Super-massive biological signature detected at coordinates C-4!" a technician shouted, sweat pouring down his forehead. "Classification confirmed... It's a Category 4 Kaiju!"
Standing on the command platform, Lieutenant General Ryuichi clasped his hands behind his back. His face, etched with the scars of time and countless battles, hardened. His eyes, sharp as razor blades, stared at the frantically blinking radar screen.
"A single target, but a heavy-weight," Ryuichi growled. "Conventional infantry pulse weapons will be useless against armor of that scale. Abort all coastal defense protocols."
He slammed his hand down on the red button on the command console. The General's steely voice echoed through the base's communication system:
"Order from the Commander: Prepare for close-quarters engagement. Deploy the Mecha! Get Captain Rin to the cockpit immediately!"
In the deepest basement of the base, the air in the preparation chamber was thick with tension. Captain Rin strode in. She didn't wear the bulky Combat Suits of the infantry. Instead, technicians hurriedly assisted her into a Neural-Suit. The matte-black suit hugged her frame, and along her spine and joints, fiber-optic conduits began to glow with a mysterious blue light.
Rin took a deep breath and stepped into the Pilot Pod—a cylindrical chamber located deep within the chest of the giant machine. She approached the control pedestal and placed both hands into the sensor gel. From the ceiling, a specially designed helmet, wired with thick bundles of optical cables, lowered and sealed over her head.
"Initiating synchronization sequence."
The cold announcement rang out. Powerful electrical impulses began to surge from Rin's spinal cord, through the Neural-Suit, and directly into the Mecha's massive quantum server.
Rin squeezed her eyes shut, her teeth gritted. The pressure of millions of neural data streams being forcibly linked to her brain made the veins on her temples throb. Connecting a human mind to a thousand-ton machine was never a pleasant experience. It was like trying to shove a hurricane into a glass jar.
Moments later, the cockpit's AI chimed in a cold, decisive tone:
"Neural sync at 100%. Neural link established. Mecha core systems online. Awaiting deployment orders."
Rin's eyes snapped open. Sci-fi blue light flickered in her pupils, reflecting the perfect harmony between human flesh and mechanical engine.
"This is Captain Rin," she spoke into the comms, unable to hide the thrill and killing intent in her voice. "Mecha Aegis is battle-ready. Requesting launch orders, General!"
In the command room, Ryuichi nodded firmly, his arm sweeping down with absolute authority:
"Launch authorized! Crush it, Rin!"
The moment the command was given, the entire gargantuan hangar began to groan and move. Sirens wailed as technicians pulled levers in unison. Two ultra-thick steel doors on the ceiling—each the size of a stadium—slid apart, revealing the rainy night sky. Giant cooling vents hissed, releasing clouds of white steam that obscured the view.
From beneath the earth, the massive hydraulic launch system groaned into action, slowly pushing the titan of steel to the surface, ready to face the nightmare from the deep.
Back on the battlefield, Carcinox was reveling in destruction. Its hideous legs crushed high-rise buildings like matchboxes. It raised its claws high, roaring as it prepared to unleash a devastating blow upon the shopping district—where thousands of citizens were trapped in despair.
SUDDENLY! The night sky ignited.
It wasn't the red glow of anti-air pulse fire, but a brilliant, blinding blue light. From a distance, two sources of plasma energy were charging with terrifying intensity, incinerating the raindrops around them.
BOOM!
Two massive energy beams tore through the night with the speed of lightning, slamming directly into Carcinox's jagged, spiked back. The explosive force was so violent that it sent the Category 4 behemoth stumbling backward. A large chunk of the Kelyte armor on its back—once thought impenetrable—cracked and shattered, raining down upon the streets like small meteorites. The monster let out a savage, pained howl.
Through the swirling dust and the thick steam rising from the explosion, a majestic silhouette slowly emerged.
It was Mecha Aegis. The towering combat machine stood tall, clad in cold, grey armor. The twin large-caliber plasma cannons mounted on its shoulders still drifted with curls of searing heat. Aegis crouched, lowering its center of gravity, as its mechanical fists ground together in a spray of sparks, settling into a perfect combat stance.
The giant monster had arrived, but this time, humanity had a Titan of its own to strike back.
