Chapter 46 - Chapter 45: “Forever Us”

It was a quiet Sunday morning. Sunlight streamed through the apartment windows, painting the living room with a soft, golden glow. Ethan and I sat side by side on the sofa, sipping coffee, our fingers intertwined without even thinking.

"Remember our first coffee challenge?" I asked, laughing softly as I glanced at him.

He grinned, eyes sparkling with mischief. "Of course. I still maintain that I won that one."

I rolled my eyes, smiling. "Yeah, sure. Keep telling yourself that."

We laughed, the sound warm and easy, the kind that comes from comfort, trust, and years of shared memories. It had been months since the hospital scare, the jealousy, the misunderstandings… and yet, here we were, stronger than ever.

"I can't believe how far we've come," I said quietly, leaning against his shoulder. "From a contract marriage… to this… real love, real partnership."

Ethan pressed a gentle kiss to my temple. "It hasn't always been easy. But every fight, every tear, every silly challenge… it brought us closer. You and me, Lara… we survived it all. And I wouldn't trade a single moment."

I smiled, feeling warmth flood my chest. "Me neither. I… I love you, Ethan. Not just in the romantic, cheesy way… I love how you fight with me, how you hold me, how you make me feel… safe."

"I love you too," he murmured, his voice low and sincere. "You're my safe place. My home. And… my forever."

I felt a flutter in my chest, the familiar mix of excitement and comfort. "Forever, huh?"

"Forever," he confirmed, holding my hand tightly. "Through life's chaos, through our fears, through everything… we're always us. Together."

A soft silence fell over us, not awkward but peaceful. We had earned it—the calm after the storm, the quiet after so many battles. And in that silence, I realized just how much we had grown.

We weren't just two people who signed a contract for convenience. We were partners, lovers, best friends, and warriors side by side. We had learned the hard way that love wasn't only passion or kisses—it was patience, trust, forgiveness, and courage.

"I think… we should celebrate," I said, nudging him playfully. "Not just surviving life, but thriving in it. Us."

Ethan chuckled, pulling me into a playful hug. "Celebrate, huh? How about we make our own little tradition? Coffee challenges, movie nights, random adventures… and maybe, just maybe, a little bit of mischief."

I laughed, burying my face in his chest. "Deal. As long as you promise… no more unnecessary scares or jealousy, okay?"

"I promise," he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead. "Just love. And us. Forever."

And as the morning sun bathed us in warmth, I knew it was true. Life would still have challenges, surprises, and chaos. But as long as Ethan and I faced it together, nothing could break us.

Because this… this was more than a contract. More than a promise. It was love. Real, unshakable, and forever.

And finally, we were free to just… be us.
