Saturday evening.
The apartment was dimly lit, the only illumination coming from the city lights filtering through the curtains. Isabelle and Marco sat together, tension thick in the air as they reviewed every clue they had gathered so far.
"This doesn't make sense," Isabelle muttered, tapping the watermark evidence against the letter. "Clara and Victor are obvious, but someone else… someone who knows everything, moving in silence…"
Marco leaned back in his chair, brows furrowed. "Exactly. Someone close… someone we trust, or at least, thought we could."
Just as Isabelle opened her mouth to respond, her phone buzzed again. A video message this time.
She pressed play, and their living room was suddenly filled with the voice they least expected.
"Hello, Isabelle. Marco."
Her heart froze. The screen showed… Lorenzo, Marco's childhood friend and former business partner, smiling in a way that made her stomach drop.
"What… Lorenzo?" Marco's voice was low, controlled, but his eyes were stormy. "How… why?"
Lorenzo's smile widened. "I'm sure you're shocked. You thought Clara and Victor were your only enemies. But I've been… orchestrating a few things from behind the scenes. A little chaos, a little fear… to test you. To see if you really are as strong together as you claim."
Isabelle felt her hands shake. "But… Lorenzo! We trusted you. You were supposed to be a friend!"
Lorenzo's expression softened mockingly. "Exactly why you wouldn't suspect me. Trust is a fragile thing, isn't it? And testing it… reveals a lot about people. About love. About loyalty."
Marco's jaw tightened. "This isn't a test, Lorenzo. This is dangerous. Innocent people could get hurt. You've crossed the line."
"I'm aware," Lorenzo replied calmly. "But I needed to see the truth. And now… I know. You two are unbreakable. Stronger than I imagined." He paused, tilting his head. "But don't get comfortable. You haven't seen the full extent of what I can do."
The video ended abruptly, leaving Isabelle and Marco staring at each other, shock and disbelief written across their faces.
Isabelle finally broke the silence. "I can't believe… Marco, he was right there all along. All these years… he was hiding this? Planning this?"
Marco shook his head, anger and betrayal mingling in his expression. "He wasn't supposed to. But now… we know. And we'll stop him. Together."
Isabelle took his hand, gripping it tightly. "Yes. Together. Nothing… nothing can break us. Not Clara, not Victor, not even Lorenzo."
Marco nodded, determination burning in his eyes. "It's time to confront the hidden enemy. And this time… we fight smart, fast, and together."
Outside, the city lights sparkled innocently, but inside, a storm of strategy, courage, and love was forming.
And Isabelle knew one truth with absolute clarity: the next battle would be their most dangerous yet.
