Unfortunately, U.A. rules say students can't go out in their combat gear unless it's a special situation and Arthur's own outfit wasn't anything special anyway.
When Arthur said his combat gear wasn't with him, Melissa's eyes dropped a little.
"Want a drink?"
After walking around for a while longer, they stopped at an open air bar. Arthur sat down and invited Melissa to join him.
"Oh, I've never had alcohol before."
Melissa hesitated, but curiosity was written all over her face.
"Hey there, beautiful. At your age, you should've learned to drink by now. Guys like it more, you know."
The bartender jumped in to help.
"Okay... I'll try it then."
Melissa took the cocktail curiously. After two sips, a faint blush spread across her fair skin.
"Oh..."
Melissa rubbed her temple with her right hand and pouted. "My... my vision's getting blurry..."
"You can't hold your liquor at all."
Arthur shook his head, pulled Melissa up, and led her away.
"Hehe, sorry..."
Melissa giggled stupidly.
They'd barely taken two steps when a dozen people suddenly surrounded them.
They formed a circle around the two. The guy leading them, a white dude with a bandage on his nose, shouted coldly, "That's him, guys!"
Seeing the mean looking men around them, Melissa sobered up pretty fast. She gasped in horror. "You... you are..."
Four of them were the same guys who'd been bothering her that morning before Arthur sent them flying.
"Annoying..."
Arthur felt irritation building inside him.
"This Asian brat's the one who did this to us! Give us a hand and take him out!"
Another white guy, missing a front tooth and talking with a lisp, chimed in and cursed.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
A series of sharp sounds cut through the air. The dozen thugs surrounding Arthur and Melissa suddenly felt a sharp pain and coldness in their calves.
They looked down. Ice spikes the size of beer bottles were stuck in their calf muscles, pierced all the way through.
Blood stained the ice red and dripped onto the sand.
"Ugh, ugh... Ahhh!!!"
"My leg! My leg!!!"
"Help, someone help me! It hurts so bad!!!"
The dozen guys collapsed to the ground, clutching their stabbed thighs and screaming in pain.
Melissa and a bunch of onlookers watched in shock. They instinctively looked around.
Where did the attack come from?
"Let's go."
Arthur knew from experience that the cops would show up soon after something like this. He didn't want unnecessary trouble, so he grabbed Melissa's hand and left quickly.
Pet Shop, hovering above the beach, also flew off.
After changing clothes, Arthur was walking Melissa to the Hawaii branch of her company.
"Mmm~~ Today was definitely a unique experience."
On the way, Melissa stretched her arms high and smiled.
You have to admit, when you look good, every move you make is graceful.
"A Quirkless person really dares to say that. If it weren't for me, those idiots would've taken you by force this morning."
Arthur said as he walked next to her.
"But you saved me, didn't you? Thanks."
Melissa smiled.
"Don't count on a next time."
It was pretty ridiculous.
They finally reached their destination.
"Goodbye."
Arthur turned to leave, but at that moment, Melissa, already at the company entrance, waved and shouted, "Arthur, today was really fun! Can we hang out again tomorrow?"
Since these two days were for vacation, and having a beautiful girl as company, Arthur had no reason to say no. He waved and agreed.
The next day, Melissa showed up right on time.
Sitting on the hotel lobby sofa, she attracted a lot of extra attention from guys. Luckily, Arthur got her out of there before anyone could come up to her.
As a local American, Melissa enthusiastically acted as Arthur's tour guide today.
She explained that because of All Might, Japan's crime rate was less than half of America's. So the U.S. didn't restrict Quirk use as much as Japan did. If a Quirk crime happened on the street, you could use your Quirk to stop it first. After investigation, if they found you used it for legitimate self defense, you wouldn't get in trouble.
U.A.'s curriculum, on the other hand, focused on "how to beat enemies while using Quirks as little as possible."
Even though American laws were regulated , compared to Japan, Arthur liked it a lot more.
But whether it was coincidence or just bad luck, no sooner had Melissa finished speaking than the Walmart building above them exploded.
A guy whose Quirk let him turn into black wings, kind of like Japan's Number 3 Hero Hawks, burst out of the broken hole, his two bird claws holding big bags of cash.
Countless shattered wall fragments fell. Melissa looked up, totally stunned.
"The World!"
Right in the nick of time, Melissa only heard Arthur shout that phrase.
By the time she realized what happened, he was already carrying her on his shoulder, standing ten meters away from where they'd just been.
Rumble.
The broken wall crashed down, making a loud noise and shaking the ground. If any unlucky people got hit, that wasn't Arthur's problem.
"So... so amazing!!" Melissa's eyes sparkled as she looked at Arthur with admiration. "That was [The World], wasn't it? That's incredible! It's totally on par with All Might's Quirk!"
"I thought you'd ask why I didn't save the others."
Arthur set Melissa down.
Melissa paused, then looked at the unlucky civilians who'd been hit by the rubble behind them. She said with some pity, "America doesn't have heroes like All Might, so stuff like this happens a lot..."
Then Melissa turned her gaze back to Arthur and asked with a slightly confused tone, "And why would I say that to you? You already saved me."
