Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: The Chrono-Key and the First Jump

Tyler had no idea how long he had been out.

When his eyes finally snapped open, he was sitting in the middle of a ruined road. He felt like he'd been dragged through a slaughterhouse; his clothes were saturated with blood, and a dark puddle pooled beneath him.

He looked back at the site of his duel with Vilgax. The area wasn't just glowing with lethal levels of nuclear radiation—it was littered with organic debris. Tentacle fragments and charred tissue were scattered across the glass-melted asphalt, looking like they had been violently shredded by a wild animal.

"From the moment I tasted that blood... everything is a blur," Tyler muttered, spitting a copper-tasting glob onto the ground. A chill ran down his spine. "Holy crap, I really went feral."

He had been a monster—a fearless, efficient, and unstoppable weapon. His Predatory Targeting had amplified into a state of pure, instinctual combat perfection.

"I can only use that mode as a last resort," Tyler whispered. "Anyway... is Vilgax dead?" He wanted to check the remains, but the ticking geiger-counter in his head told him to stay back.

[Ding! Host defeated Vilgax and inflicted 'Primal Terror' on the Conqueror's elite guard. Progress +3%.]

Tyler's face lit up. Even though Vilgax wasn't "finished," the sheer trauma inflicted on him was worth a massive boost.

"A duration buff? Finally!" Tyler tallied his gains. The second and third rewards, however, were the real game-changers. The Prism-Sentinel (Chromastone) wasn't just a powerhouse; it was a cosmic anchor. And the Warp-Gear? That was the missing piece of the puzzle.

"System, open status."

Tyler transformed into NRG briefly to sweep the battlefield, but the biological remains of Vilgax had already decayed into a foul, radioactive sludge. He couldn't confirm if the head was still intact.

"Doesn't matter," Tyler said, his confidence surging. "Whether he's dead or hiding in a tube somewhere, next time I'll just beat him even harder."

Later that day, the Rustbucket returned to pick him up. Tyler was so covered in gore that Max made him stand outside while he hosed him down with a high-pressure line.

"Grandpa, I know I'm ripped now, but you're staring," Tyler joked as the water washed the blood away.

"I was checking for wounds, Tyler," Max said, his voice full of pride. "There aren't any. You really did it. You're a hero, kid. You took down Vilgax."

Inside the car, Gwen sat with her back to the window, her face burning. She wanted to look... to make sure he was okay... but she settled for listening to the sound of the water.

After a few days of rest in a quiet town, the adrenaline began to fade, replaced by a restless boredom. Ben and Tyler had handled every petty crime in the zip code so effectively that the local criminals were too terrified to even jaywalk.

"Let's spar!" Ben suggested, desperate for action. "We need to train our forms!"

Tyler agreed. They stepped out onto a deserted backroad. Ben blurred into XLR8, training his high-speed reflexes. Tyler, meanwhile, dialed his newest form.

FLASH!

A pale, jagged humanoid made of silicon and crystal emerged. This was The Prism-Sentinel. Suddenly, a suit of dark purple, metallic armor—the Chronos-Plate—materialized over his crystalline skin. In his hand, a heavy, glowing Warp-Disk appeared, humming with a frequency that made the air vibrate.

"Your disk..." Gwen said, stepping out of the RV. "It feels like it's pulling on the air. Is that a magical artifact?"

"It's part of the form," Tyler said, focusing. He channeled his internal energy into the Disk. A purple light erupted, tearing a hole in space-time—a swirling portal. "Wait, it's too strong. I'm not ready to jump yet—"

"SURPRISE!"

Ben, still in XLR8 mode, didn't see the portal. He came screaming around the corner at Mach 1, aiming a playful "tackle" at Tyler while holding a limited-edition comic book.

"Tyler! Look what I found at the—WOAH!"

CRASH!

Ben slammed into Tyler with the force of a freight train. Tyler, caught off balance, tumbled backward directly into the swirling violet maw of the portal. The disk sparked, and the rift snapped shut, vanishing instantly.

"YOU TOTAL BLOCKHEAD!" Gwen screamed at Ben.

Tyler hit the ground hard. The smell of pine needles and damp earth filled his nose. He looked up at the sky. A familiar forest. A familiar summer night. And far above, a single green meteor was streaking through the atmosphere, heading straight for the woods.

Tyler's red eyes widened as he realized where—and when—he was.

"Ben... you've got to be kidding me. I'm back at the start."
