Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Distance He Still Crosses

A faint sound came from the balcony.

Soft—

but clear enough to make Phat flinch.

She lifted her head from the bed,

her brows knitting slightly.

At first, she thought it was the wind.

But then—

the sound came again.

Click…

Her heart skipped.

She slowly got up and walked toward the window.

Her hand reached for the curtain.

And the moment she pulled it aside—

her breath stopped.

"Kan…"

He was standing on the balcony.

Just like before.

Just like the first night he had climbed in.

No calls.

No messages.

No warning.

He just… came.

"Open it."

His voice was soft,

but his gaze was serious.

Phat stood still,

her heart beating faster and faster.

She knew she should refuse.

Should tell him to leave.

Should stop everything right now.

But in the end—

she unlocked the window.

The moment it opened,

Kan climbed in,

as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

As if he had done this countless times.

The scent of the night air clung to him,

cutting through the silence in the room.

"Are you crazy?"

Phat said softly.

But there was no anger in her voice.

"Yeah."

He answered shortly,

not denying it.

She let out a breath.

"If someone sees—"

"No one will."

He cut in,

stepping closer.

Too close.

"Aren't you ever scared?"

"I am."

That answer made her pause.

"Then why are you still here?"

Kan looked at her,

steady.

"Because it's you."

Her heart pounded instantly.

The same words—

but never lighter.

Silence fell again.

But this time,

it was filled with something else.

Kan reached out

and gently held her wrist.

Not tight—

but firm enough for her to know he was there.

"You disappeared today."

His voice dropped.

"I was just busy."

"All day?"

The question didn't need an answer.

Phat pressed her lips together.

"What about you?"

she asked back.

"I waited."

A short answer—

but heavy.

She went silent.

Because deep down,

she felt the same.

Kan moved a little closer.

The distance—

gone again.

"Don't do this."

Phat said softly.

But she didn't step back.

"Do what?"

"Coming to me like this…"

"Then do you not want me to?"

That question

stopped everything.

She didn't answer.

Because the answer

was too clear.

Kan gave a faint smile,

as if he already knew.

Then he leaned in—

slow,

deliberate.

Their lips met again.

This time,

there was no hesitation.

Only desire

that could no longer be held back.

His hand moved up,

wrapping around her waist.

Phat flinched slightly.

But she didn't push him away.

Instead,

she leaned into him without realizing.

Their breaths mingled.

Their hearts pounded

loud enough to almost hear.

Rain began to fall again.

Just like the night before.

As if everything was repeating—

but deeper this time.

Kan pulled back slightly,

their foreheads touching.

"It's dangerous,"

Phat murmured.

"I know."

"Then why are you still here?"

He looked at her.

"Because I can't stop."

That answer made her close her eyes.

Because she was the same.

And in the end,

she didn't tell him to leave.

Just like every time.

As if she was letting him

cross that line again and again.

Even though she knew—

once this distance was crossed,

there was no way back.
