Chapter 1 - Family

Country B,was a country that Favored patriarchy. It was divided into four regions, northern part, eastern part, southern and western part. This regions where ruled by a regional governor who oversaw the everything concerning their region.

In a village named Teneri located in the eastern region, was a girl named Kamara. Kamara was seven years old and had a younger sister named zora whom was 4 years old. Their parents loved each other dearly, even though they weren't rich their family of 4 never went hungry and the children were attending a local school nearby as their father Theodore paid for their tuition fees. Theodore loved his two daughters dearly and never once complained of not having a son, nor did he ever maltreat his wife Sofia because she didn't give birth to a son.

Kamara life was good she had friends at school, she could eat more than three square meals a day and had parents who adored her. She was contented and happy, till disaster struck her household and she Lost her father to an illness. When she came back from school on a Wednesday afternoon, she saw different people in her house,some she knew and some she didn't, they were all sad, and also consoling her mom who's cries echoed through their compound raw and heartbroken.

She didn't know what was going on but she burst into tears as well.

Upon reaching close to her mom with tears in her eyes Kamara asked what was going on, no one responded but her mom cried harder which brought more tears rolling down her cheeks.

Kamara's mom cried for about 3 hours before she pulled herself together and took Kamara inside their home to feed her. Kamara ate her meal and fell asleep just after she finished eating. Probably she's tired from all the crying her mom thought.

Mrs Sofia didn't know what to do now that she lost her husband, but she decided to combine her low salary job and school at same time in order to get a better job so she could raise her children.

The next day, mrs Sofia called her landlord to ask if she could get back half of the money her husband paid to lease their apartment as she was planning to move so she could live with her mom.

The landlord a kind man gave her the money which amounted about $250.

With the money and her little savings over the years, mrs Sofia hired a moving truck which was scheduled to come the next day.

Kamara was already awake, so she heard her mom's discussion and knew something was wrong, so she asked her mom where her dad was?. Mrs Sofia was heartbroken but she still told her daughter the truth about her father's death and that they were going to be living her maternal grandmother from now on. Kamara couldn't explain what she felt, but she was sad and she cried silently because she knew she wasn't going to see her dad anymore.

So she quietly went back to bed and laid down close to her sister who was still asleep.

The next day the mrs Sofia with the help from her neighbors packed her luggage and everything she needed, then her and children entered the moving truck and left Teneri village.
