Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The new beginning

The house stood at the end of a narrow, silent lane—forgotten… abandoned… avoided.

Aarohi stopped at the rusted gate.

For a moment, she felt it.

Not fear.

Not yet.

But something close to it.

Like invisible eyes… slowly opening.

Watching her.

Waiting.

She shook her head. "It's nothing."

The gate creaked as she pushed it open.

And somewhere—

Something heard it.

The moment she stepped inside the property, the temperature dropped.

Not naturally.

Suddenly.

Unnaturally.

The wind died.

The silence deepened.

And from the broken windows of the house… something shifted.

Not one thing.

Many.

Inside, the air smelled of dust… decay… and something older.

Something that didn't belong to the world of the living.

Aarohi placed her bag down, trying to ignore the feeling crawling on her skin.

Then she saw it.

The mirror.

Tall.

Ancient.

Its wooden frame twisted into carvings that looked like dozens of tiny eyes.

Not decorative.

Watching.

As she stepped closer, the room felt crowded.

Even though she was alone.

Or… not.

Because behind her—

Something moved.

A tall shadow near the door.

A thin figure crouched on the ceiling corner.

A child-like shape sitting under the table—its head tilted unnaturally.

A woman standing near the wall… her face covered with long black hair.

A man with no eyes… only hollow darkness.

A crawling figure dragging itself across the floor—too slow to notice at first.

A shape inside the mirror… slightly out of sync with her movements.

Something peeking from behind the curtain—then vanishing.

A pair of glowing eyes in the dark hallway.

And something standing right behind her…

Breathing.

Softly.

But Aarohi saw none of them.

Not yet.

The mirror only showed her reflection.

Smiling weakly.

Alive.

Unaware.

Night arrived like a curse.

Too fast.

Too sudden.

As if the sun had fled in fear.

Aarohi sat on the bed, her phone in hand, but the screen flickered strangely. The network was gone.

No signal.

No connection.

No escape.

Then—

Tap… tap… tap…

The sound came from the window.

She froze.

The tapping continued.

Slow.

Patient.

Like someone… or something… asking to come in.

She walked toward the window.

Each step heavier than the last.

As she reached out to pull the curtain—

She felt it.

Ten different stares.

From ten different directions.

Cold.

Hungry.

Waiting.

She pulled the curtain aside.

Nothing.

Just darkness.

But in that darkness—

For a split second—

She saw multiple eyes.

Blinking.

Then gone.

She stepped back.

Her breathing uneven.

Her heart racing.

"No… no, this isn't real…"

Behind her—

The mirror changed.

Now it no longer showed just her.

It showed the truth.

All of them.

Standing.

Crawling.

Hanging.

Watching.

Surrounding her.

The woman with long hair slowly lifted her head.

The eyeless man turned toward her.

The child under the table smiled—too wide.

The crawling thing dragged itself closer.

The ceiling figure twisted its neck.

The shadow near the door grew taller.

The glowing eyes moved forward.

The curtain figure stepped out.

The reflection… blinked.

And the one behind her—

Opened its eye.

One eye.

Wide.

Unblinking.

Alive.

Aarohi turned around—

Nothing.

Silence.

Empty room.

But in the mirror—

They were still there.

All of them.

And now—

They were smiling.

Aarohi's voice trembled.

"…Who's there?"

No answer.

Only silence.

Then—

A whisper.

Right beside her ear.

So close.

So cold.

So real.

"We see you."

The lights went out.

And in the darkness—

The evil eye opened fully for the first time.
