Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Susan Refuses to Banish the Blood Fox

Susan tossed the talisman aside.

"What kind of talk is that? Enter my body? Do you think I'm some kind of loose woman?"

Kayson panicked and waved his hands. "I didn't mean your body—I meant your palace!"

Palace?

A woman's private chamber?

In his rush, he had misspoken, turning "Niwan Palace" into just "palace."

This only enraged Susan further. She grabbed a cushion and threw it straight at Kayson's head.

"Why don't you just drop dead?!"

Kayson saw that Susan had thrown away the talisman and was furious beyond reason. He knew anything more he said would be useless.

He thought to himself: Fine. I'll slip another talisman under her bed sheet. At least it will hold the evil aura back until I find a chance to treat her later.

After dinner, Susan lay on the bed facing inward, still seething.

Kayson sat on his floor mat, turned off the wall lamp, and the room fell into complete darkness.

Once Susan was fast asleep, Kayson quietly stood up. He circulated the Tai Chi Scripture in his mind, following its instructions to complete a full cycle of energy. A warm heat began to rise in his lower abdomen,

and he felt overflowing energy throughout his body.

Kayson mapped out his next plans:

First, recover the two million dollar debt from Oceanwave Group.

In the long run, expel the green spirit fox from Susan's body.

And find his missing adoptive father.

Moonlight poured like water over Susan's delicate figure.

The room temperature was 27 degrees Celsius, and Susan had kicked her blanket to the floor.

Kayson picked up the blanket, stood up gently, and covered her with it.

Susan was beautiful, but all Kayson could think about was banishing the Blood Fox Spirit inside her.

Now that she was asleep, maybe he could enter her Niwan Palace and fight the fox.

With that thought, he quietly stretched out his finger, aiming for the Niwan Palace between Susan's eyebrows.

Click!

A flashlight beam suddenly shone directly on Kayson's face.

His mother-in-law Liu Yun burst through the door and slapped him hard across the cheek.

"You idiot! What are you doing? Trying to assault my daughter?!"

Liu Yun's shout jolted Susan awake.

Click!

Susan turned on the wall lamp.

Sure enough, Kayson was standing right by her bed.

"What are you doing?" Susan asked.

"Your blanket fell on the floor. I came to pick it up for you." Kayson calmly retrieved the blanket from the ground, covered Susan,

then returned to his floor mat.

"You bold, crazy fool! You were up to no good! You pretended the blanket fell just to take advantage of my daughter!

You're nothing but a tool the Su family bought for good luck! What right do you have to touch her?!" Liu Yun shouted at the top of her lungs.

Kayson: "I didn't touch her. I only wanted to expel the evil spirit inside her."

"Nonsense! You're the evil spirit!

You're a bad omen! Nothing good ever happens with you around!

This is all your fault! My daughter was fine before you came!" Liu Yun fumed.

Kayson: "No matter what I do, it's wrong. I'm simply born guilty."

Susan said: "It doesn't matter. I'll check the cameras."

Susan tapped the wall-mounted TV and pulled up the recent footage.

The recording clearly showed that Susan herself had kicked the blanket off—it had not been touched by Kayson.

As it turned out, Liu Yun had installed surveillance in her daughter's room to catch Kayson in the act if he ever tried anything inappropriate,

keeping constant watch on the "family thief."

"Kayson still has bad intentions! He lusts after my daughter! Can you deny it?!" Liu Yun demanded, hands on hips.

Kayson: "It's true. I have thought about it. If I didn't, I wouldn't be a man.

But I never touched her. I have self-control."

"You are not allowed to think about her!" Liu Yun roared.

"What right do you have to fancy my daughter? You're penniless, you bring shame to this family, and you dare think of her? You should be ashamed to death!

If you ever lay a finger on my daughter, I'll send you to prison! I mean it!"

Kayson's heart was heavy. If the Blood Fox inside Susan was not banished soon, her condition would only worsen.

In less than a month, the fox would drain her life force completely.

But to destroy the Blood Fox, he would have to physically touch Susan—pressing her acupoints to gather the fox spirit into her Niwan Palace.

If he did that, his mother-in-law would surely use the footage to accuse him of assault.

He would never be able to clear his name.

On top of that, Susan refused to cooperate and did not believe a fox spirit was possessing her.

She simply did not trust his medical skills.

Kayson tossed and turned, unable to sleep.

The next morning, Kayson woke up early, cooked breakfast, and decided to visit his mother's old neighborhood.

He wanted to ask about his adoptive father.

His adoptive father had been missing for over a year. He had to find out whether he was alive or dead.

He couldn't just let it go.

After breakfast, Kayson headed for the old residential area.

In District LC:

His energetic adoptive mother, Mabel Yang, had prepared her tea egg pot, tied her apron, and was about to push her cart out to sell snacks.

When she saw her son return, her eyes lit up, and she immediately offered him tea eggs to eat.

Kayson was already full, but he took one and ate it in two bites.

"Mom, don't work so hard. From now on, I'll send you ten thousand dollars every month."

Mabel Yang smiled warmly. Just having her son say that was enough for her.

She pulled out a small red envelope filled with the change she had saved up—around two thousand dollars total.

She held it out to her son.

"Son, I can earn money myself. You take all this. You're young; you need to take care of yourself.

I'm old. As long as I have enough to eat and a couple sets of clothes, I'm fine.

Buy your wife some eggs and milk powder to nourish her. Maybe you'll have a fat little grandson or granddaughter soon!

I'm getting old. I don't want anything else—I just want to hold a grandchild soon." Mabel Yang wiped her eyes with the edge of her shirt.

"Mom!"

Kayson stared at the neatly folded pile of small bills.

This was everything she had.

She hadn't kept a single cent for herself.

She gave it all to him.

Such is the heart of a loving parent!

Tears filled Kayson's eyes as he stuffed the sixty thousand dollars Susan had given him into his mother's hand.

"Mom, here. This is from your daughter-in-law, for you to spend."

In Kayson's mind, since they were husband and wife, their money should be shared.

He would give everything he earned to his wife.

He only needed to give his mother a few thousand—too much money might attract danger.

After all, his mother's well-being was his responsibility.

Mabel Yang refused to take it.

"Silly boy! What would I do with all this money?

Life isn't easy for you at the Su family. I can still earn my own keep.

I have fresh vegetables and fruit in the yard. Why would I need money?"

Kayson tucked the money firmly into a wooden cabinet.

"Mom, don't worry. I'm doing really well!"

As he spoke, he even impressed himself with his acting skills.

"Oh, that's wonderful! Your mother-in-law must be a kind woman then!"

Mabel Yang was overjoyed to hear her son was doing well.

"Yes, she's very kind," Kayson replied.

In truth, he had never told his mother that he was only bought as a luck-bringing tool.

Legally speaking, he wasn't even a real son-in-law.

Mabel Yang said:

"Live well with your wife at the Su family.

Try to have a baby soon."

As she chattered, Mabel Yang thought to herself:

Someday I'll visit the Su family and meet my daughter-in-law's mother.

"Son, you sit. I'll go cut some sweet sugarcane for you in the yard." Mabel Yang said lovingly.

With her son home, Mabel Yang bustled about the house,

wanting to give him everything she had.

Kayson sat inside, thinking:

It's good that Mom keeps busy. It's better than doing nothing.

Life lies in movement.

People get sick when they have too much free time.

He lay on the brick bed, picked up the remote, turned on the old TV, and relaxed.

"AHHH—!"

Kayson heard his mother scream.

He shot up and sprinted outside.
