Hajin slid Uriel's envelope across the archive table while Lana brought its seal beneath her lens.
Two forwarding marks crowded its corner, proof the letter crawled along the whole public dispatch route before reaching them here. Marrick opened a custody sheet before anyone broke the wax, while Juna kept the damaged chain supported behind Hajin's chair.
Lana turned the seal beneath the lamp and tapped the joined edges with her pen.
"Opened and resealed twice," she reported, tracing the narrow marks, "and the heated blades match court custody tools, so whoever read this knew how to hide it."
"Twice?" Hajin squawked, nearly tipping his chair.
"Twice."
"Those nosy bastards couldn't even settle for once?"
"Court readers never trust the first reader," Marrick said dryly, logging the seal's condition beneath its arrival mark.
