Chapter 3 - Chapter Three: THE DAY OF AWAKENING

The announcement came on a clear morning.

Not through whispers. Not through rumors drifting between students like invisible threads. It arrived formally, precisely, carried by authority that demanded attention.

Neo was halfway through his first class when the intercom crackled to life.

"Attention, all students. Please proceed to the main hall immediately. This is not a drill."

The teacher paused mid-sentence. The chalk in her hand hovered just above the board before she slowly set it down.

A tension spread through the room—not panic, but anticipation. Something important was about to happen.

Neo felt it too.

But unlike the others, his reaction wasn't curiosity.

It was… familiarity.

The main hall was larger than it had ever seemed before.

Rows upon rows of students filled the space, their voices low but restless. Teachers stood along the edges, quieter than usual, their expressions more guarded than calm.

At the center of the hall stood a raised platform.

And on it—

Three figures.

The first was the principal, his posture rigid, his presence commanding. The second wore a long, dark coat etched with faint, shifting patterns that seemed to move when one looked too closely. The third—

Neo couldn't quite focus on the third.

Every time his eyes drifted toward that figure, something in his mind… slipped.

"Students," the principal began, his voice steady, echoing softly through the hall. "Today marks a turning point. Not just for this academy—but for all of you."

A murmur rippled through the crowd.

"For generations," he continued, "humanity has lived unaware of what lies beneath reality. Unaware of the forces that shape existence itself."

Neo's fingers tightened slightly at his sides.

"But that time has ended."

The second figure stepped forward.

Up close, the patterns on his coat were clearer now—not designs, but symbols. Ancient. Complex. Alive in a way that defied explanation.

"There exists," the man said, his voice calm yet carrying an unnatural weight, "a fundamental energy. Older than matter. Older than time as you understand it."

He paused.

"It is called Primordial Essence."

The word resonated.

Not just in the air.

But in Neo.

"It is the foundation upon which all existence is built," the man continued. "A remnant of the first forces that shaped reality itself. It flows through everything—but only a few can perceive it… and fewer still can wield it."

The third figure moved slightly.

Just enough to draw Neo's attention again.

And again—

He couldn't see them clearly.

"Today," the principal said, "you will undergo Awakening."

The hall erupted.

Students whispered, gasped, some even laughed nervously. The word itself carried weight, even for those who didn't fully understand it.

Neo didn't react.

"Those who awaken," the man in the coat continued, "will begin their journey as cultivators—individuals capable of harnessing Primordial Essence."

He raised a hand.

The air shifted.

A faint glow appeared around his fingers.

"This energy follows a path. A structure. A system refined over centuries."

Symbols formed in the air behind him, shifting into clear, readable tiers:

Primordial Cultivation System:

Stage 1: Ember Initiation

Stage 2: Vein Ignition

Stage 3: Core Formation

Stage 4: Spirit Binding

Stage 5: Domain Manifestation

Stage 6: Law Resonance

Stage 7: Primordial Ascension

"Each stage represents a deeper connection to Primordial Essence," he explained. "A greater understanding of existence itself."

Neo stared at the words.

Something about them felt…

Incomplete.

"Your Awakening will determine your affinity, your potential, and your path forward."

The process began immediately.

One by one, students were called to the platform.

They placed their hands on a crystalline structure—a sphere that pulsed faintly with shifting light.

The first student stepped forward.

Placed their hand on the sphere.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then—

A flicker.

A soft glow spread from their hand, traveling up their arm.

"Ember Initiation," the man in the coat said calmly.

The student gasped.

"I—I can feel it!"

Applause broke out.

More students followed.

Each awakening differently.

Some faint.

Some brilliant.

One girl stepped forward.

The moment her hand touched the sphere—

It flared.

Light burst outward, filling the hall.

"Vein Ignition," the man said, a hint of approval in his voice.

The crowd reacted louder this time.

Neo watched.

Silently.

The feeling inside him was growing stronger.

Find me.

His turn came.

"Neo."

He stepped forward.

The hall seemed quieter now.

Or perhaps it only felt that way.

He stood before the sphere.

It pulsed gently.

Waiting.

He raised his hand.

Hesitated.

Something deep within him stirred.

Not fear.

Not doubt.

Recognition.

His hand touched the sphere.

Nothing happened.

No light.

No warmth.

No reaction.

The hall remained silent.

Neo waited.

Still nothing.

The man in the coat frowned slightly.

"Try again."

Neo pressed his hand more firmly.

Nothing.

A whisper spread through the crowd.

"Unawakened…"

"Impossible…"

Neo lowered his hand.

The feeling inside him—

Did not fade.

If anything—

It grew stronger.
