Chapter 2 - Descent Into the Unknown

The door shut behind them with a soft, final click.

"…That sounded permanent," Arham said.

"It is," Zyro replied.

"Great. Love that for us."

Inside, the vehicle didn't look like anything they had seen before.

No steering wheel.

No visible engine.

Just a circular room with five seats and a glowing central core.

"…Is this even safe?" Nira asked.

"No," Zyro said calmly.

Rayan blinked. "You could at least pretend."

"I don't lie."

"That's not comforting."

"Sit," Zyro instructed.

They hesitated.

Lila dropped into a seat first. "Relax, guys. Worst case—we die."

"WHY do you say things like that?" Arham snapped.

"Motivation."

Rayan sat next, then Nira, then Arham.

As soon as the last one sat—

The seats tightened around them automatically.

"…Okay, I don't like that," Nira said.

"Restraints," Zyro explained. "For pressure shifts."

"Pressure shifts?" Arham repeated. "We're not even moving yet!"

"Correct," Zyro said.

"…I'm going to pass out," Arham whispered.

The core in the center pulsed blue.

Then the entire vehicle vibrated.

"Departure initiated," Zyro said.

"WAIT—" Rayan started.

Too late.

The world outside vanished.

Literally.

No motion.

No sound.

Just—

Darkness.

"…Are we moving?" Nira whispered.

"Yes."

"…How fast?"

"Fast enough."

"That is not a number," Arham complained.

Suddenly—

The walls turned transparent.

The ocean surrounded them.

Black.

Endless.

Alive.

"Whoa…" Lila whispered.

Bioluminescent creatures drifted past—glowing like stars in the dark water.

"This is beautiful," she said.

"For now," Zyro added.

"Can you not ruin the moment?" Rayan said.

Depth indicator appeared above them:

1,200 meters

"Okay," Nira exhaled, "this is manageable."

"Wait," Arham said. "What's the deepest humans have gone?"

"About 11,000 meters," Rayan replied.

"And we're going…?"

"Deeper," Zyro said.

"…Of course we are."

The vehicle suddenly accelerated.

"Why are we speeding up?!" Nira asked.

"To reach the trench faster."

"I don't WANT to reach it faster!"

"Relax," Lila said. "Enjoy the ride."

"I will enjoy surviving," Arham snapped.

3,000 meters

The light from above disappeared completely.

Now only the creatures around them lit the darkness.

"Guys…" Rayan said quietly.

"What?" Nira asked.

"…We're officially in the part of the ocean where sunlight never reaches."

"Thank you for that nightmare," Arham said.

Something massive moved in the distance.

Slow.

Silent.

Watching.

"…Did you see that?" Nira whispered.

"Nope," Arham said quickly. "Didn't see anything. Don't want to."

"It's gone," Rayan said.

Zyro spoke.

"It's not gone."

"…What do you mean?"

"It's observing."

Silence.

"Okay," Arham said, voice shaking slightly, "new rule: nothing observes us."

"Noted," Lila said. "We'll inform the ocean."

5,500 meters

The pressure outside intensified.

The vehicle creaked slightly.

"That sound again," Nira said.

"Structural adaptation," Zyro explained.

"That sounds like 'we might die,'" she replied.

"Correct."

"…I hate you."

"I am not designed for emotional validation."

"Clearly."

Rayan leaned forward.

"Zyro… tell us the truth."

"I always do."

"No filters."

"…Proceed."

"What exactly are we going to find down there?"

Zyro paused.

For the first time.

"…A civilization," it said.

"Alive?" Lila asked.

"Yes."

Arham blinked. "Hold on. HOLD ON. You're telling me there are people living at the bottom of the ocean?!"

"Not people," Zyro corrected.

"…That's worse."

"Are they dangerous?" Nira asked.

Zyro looked at her.

"Yes."

"Define dangerous," Rayan said.

"They do not tolerate intrusion."

"Like… attack?" Lila asked.

"Yes."

"With what?" Arham said nervously.

"…Everything."

"…Fantastic," Arham muttered. "We're going to get killed by underwater aliens."

"Not aliens," Zyro said. "They originated on Earth."

"That doesn't help."

7,800 meters

The darkness thickened.

Even the glowing creatures disappeared.

Now—

Nothing.

"I can't see anything," Nira whispered.

"Because there is nothing to see," Zyro said.

"That's somehow worse."

Then—

A sound.

Low.

Deep.

Like something… breathing.

"…Tell me that's the vehicle," Rayan said.

"It is not," Zyro replied.

"WHAT IS IT THEN?!" Arham shouted.

"A territorial signal."

"…Meaning?"

"We are entering their zone."

"Turn back," Nira said immediately.

"No."

"Zyro—turn. back."

"Not possible."

"Why NOT?!"

"Because," Zyro said quietly, "we have already been detected."

Silence.

Heavy.

Cold.

"…So?" Lila asked.

"So," Zyro replied, "retreat would trigger pursuit."

"…And staying?" Rayan asked.

"…Gives us a chance."

"Chance of what?" Arham asked.

"Survival."

"Barely," Zyro added.

"YOU COULD HAVE LED WITH THAT!" Arham yelled.

The vehicle slowed.

10,000 meters

"We're close," Zyro said.

"No kidding," Nira whispered.

Then—

Light.

Faint at first.

Then growing.

"…What is that?" Rayan asked.

Lila leaned forward, eyes wide.

"It's… a city."

Below them—

A massive underwater structure stretched endlessly.

Glowing towers.

Moving shapes.

Energy flowing like veins.

"No way…" Nira breathed.

"This is impossible," Rayan whispered.

"Nothing is impossible," Zyro said.

"Just highly unlikely."

"Those are buildings," Lila said.

"And those…" Arham pointed, "…are moving."

"They are inhabitants," Zyro confirmed.

"Okay," Arham said slowly. "New plan: we don't go there."

"Denied," Zyro replied.

The vehicle began descending toward the city.

"Zyro…" Rayan said carefully.

"Yes?"

"…Tell me we have a plan."

"We do."

"Good."

"We improvise."

"…That's not a plan."

Suddenly—

The lights of the city flickered.

Then focused.

On them.

"…They see us," Nira whispered.

"Yes," Zyro said.

Something moved upward.

Fast.

Too fast.

"WHAT IS THAT?!" Arham shouted.

"Interceptor units," Zyro said.

"INTERCEPTOR?!" Rayan repeated.

"They are coming."

Three glowing shapes shot toward them.

"Do something!" Nira yelled.

"Activating cloaking," Zyro said.

The vehicle shimmered—

Then vanished.

"…Did it work?" Lila whispered.

Silence.

The shapes slowed.

Scanning.

Searching.

"Don't move," Zyro said.

"We're in a moving vehicle!" Arham hissed.

"Then do not panic."

"Too late!"

One of the shapes came dangerously close.

So close—

They could see it.

Humanoid.

But not human.

Eyes glowing.

Skin like liquid metal.

"…They're real," Nira whispered.

"Yes," Zyro said.

The creature paused.

Right in front of them.

"…It knows," Rayan said quietly.

"No," Zyro replied.

"It senses something."

Seconds felt like hours.

Then—

It moved away.

The others followed.

"…We're alive," Arham said.

"For now," Zyro corrected.

The vehicle resumed descent.

"Welcome," Zyro said softly…

"…to the deep sea civilization."

The city opened before them.

And something inside it—

Was waiting.
