Synopsis
HIS WOLF AND MINE "You said your wolf was dead." "She isn't dead." "Then where has she been all these years?" Elara Vale has spent most of her life learning how to disappear. After her father's mysterious death, her mother remarries a ruthless man who turns Elara's home into a place of fear. Her stepfather and his children make her life unbearable, slowly breaking the confidence she once had. Worst of all, the silver wolf who was once her closest companion disappears from her mind. For eight years, Elara hears nothing from Lyra. No voice. No presence. No wolf. She believes she has been abandoned by the only creature who ever truly loved her. Then everything changes when she is taken to Haven Castle, the stronghold of the most powerful wolf pack in the northern kingdom. There, she meets Alpha Kaelen Draven—a cold, feared ruler whose wolf immediately senses something strange about her. Something ancient. Something powerful. Something that should not exist. "Where is your wolf?" Kaelen asks. Elara lowers her eyes. "She's gone." "Dead?" "I don't know." But Kaelen soon discovers that Elara's wolf isn't dead. She has been hiding. Waiting. Protecting Elara from something far more dangerous than her cruel family. And when an ancient enemy known as the Crowned begins searching for Elara, the secrets surrounding her father's death finally begin to surface. Why was Elias Vale murdered? Why were the Crowned searching for his daughter? Why does Kaelen's wolf react so strangely to Elara? And what is the secret hidden inside the girl who has spent her entire life believing she is weak? "You're afraid of me." Elara's voice trembles. "Yes." Kaelen steps closer. "Then why didn't you run?" She looks up at him for the first time. "Because..." Her voice is barely a whisper. "For the first time, I think someone might actually find me if I do." Kaelen says nothing. But deep inside him, his wolf growls. She's not the girl everyone believes her to be. And inside Elara, after eight years of silence, Lyra finally opens her silver eyes. "Elara..." "What?" "It's time you remembered who you are." She thought she had lost her wolf. She never knew her wolf had been waiting for her to awaken.

Chapter 1 - THE HAVEN CASTLE

The atmosphere inside Haven Castle had changed before anyone dared to acknowledge it.

The great hall, which was usually filled with the quiet movement of servants, guards, and pack members, had become painfully still. Nobody wanted to be the first to speak. Nobody wanted to make a mistake.

At the head of the hall stood Alpha Kael.

He had been silent for several minutes.

That silence was worse than shouting.

Rowan, his first Beta, stood several feet away from him, watching carefully. Darius stood beside him, his expression unusually serious. Several Omegas had gathered near the far end of the hall, keeping their heads lowered and their voices quiet.

Everyone knew what had happened.

Twenty-three members of Haven Pack had crossed the northern border without permission.

They had entered Black Ridge territory.

And someone had given them an order bearing the official seal of Kael's Beta.

Kael finally broke the silence.

"Twenty-three."

His voice was low, but every person in the hall heard him.

Rowan swallowed before answering.

"Yes, Alpha."

Kael turned slowly toward him.

"Twenty-three wolves."

"Yes."

"Twenty-three members of my pack walked across our northern boundary and into another Alpha's territory."

Rowan nodded cautiously.

"That is what happened."

Kael's jaw tightened.

"And you expect me to believe that twenty-three grown wolves simply forgot the laws of this pack?"

"No, Alpha," Rowan replied. "They didn't forget the laws."

"Then explain it."

"They were following an order."

Kael's eyes hardened.

"Whose order?"

Rowan hesitated.

"That's what we're trying to determine."

Kael gave a humorless laugh.

"You're trying to determine it?"

Darius immediately stepped forward.

"Kael, we only received the report shortly before you arrived. We've already begun investigating."

Kael looked at him.

"And yet you still don't know who gave the order."

"No," Darius admitted.

"Then what exactly have you been investigating?"

Darius kept his voice calm.

"The order was delivered to the northern patrol shortly after midnight. It instructed twenty-three wolves to cross the border and investigate supposed enemy activity."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"Supposed enemy activity."

"Yes."

"And they believed it?"

"The message carried Rowan's seal."

Kael's attention immediately shifted to Rowan.

"My Beta's seal."

Rowan nodded.

"Yes."

Kael stared at him for several seconds.

"Did you authorize it?"

"No."

The answer came quickly.

Kael took one step forward.

"Did you write it?"

"No."

"Did you tell anyone to cross the border?"

"No."

"Did you give anyone permission to use your seal?"

"Never."

Kael's expression darkened.

"Then someone forged your authority."

"That's what we believe," Rowan replied.

Kael's voice became colder.

"No."

Rowan frowned slightly.

"No?"

"We don't believe it."

Kael's eyes swept across the room.

"We know it."

Nobody spoke.

Kael continued, "Someone inside or around this pack obtained access to your authority, copied or stole your seal, created an order in your name, and sent twenty-three wolves into enemy territory."

Darius nodded slowly.

"That's correct."

Kael's fingers curled into fists.

"And two of them are still missing."

Rowan's expression became serious.

"Yes."

"Two."

"Yes, Alpha."

Kael looked away for a moment.

When he spoke again, his voice was dangerously calm.

"Where are they?"

"We don't know."

"How long have they been missing?"

"Approximately six hours."

Kael turned sharply.

"Six hours?"

"Yes."

"And you're standing here telling me you don't know where my wolves are?"

Rowan's face remained composed.

"We have patrols searching the northern forest."

Kael's eyes flashed.

"The northern forest is not Black Ridge territory."

"No."

"The wolves crossed the border."

"Yes."

"So your patrols cannot search beyond our boundary without risking another incident."

"We know."

Kael stared at him.

"Then what have you done?"

Darius answered before Rowan could.

"We've sent a message to Black Ridge."

Kael's head turned.

"You did what?"

"We contacted their Alpha."

"And what did you tell him?"

"That the wolves crossed without your authorization."

"His response?"

Darius hesitated.

"He hasn't responded."

Kael laughed bitterly.

"Of course he hasn't."

Rowan sighed.

"Kael—"

"No."

The single word silenced him.

Kael's voice rose.

"Do you understand what this looks like?"

Rowan answered carefully.

"Yes."

"Do you?"

"Yes."

"Then say it."

Rowan paused.

"It looks like Haven Pack violated the northern treaty."

Kael's expression hardened.

"Again."

"It looks like we sent armed wolves into Black Ridge territory."

"Again."

"It looks like an act of aggression."

Kael nodded.

"Exactly."

His voice suddenly became louder.

"And what do you think happens when an Alpha sees twenty-three armed wolves from another pack crossing his border?"

Darius replied, "He assumes we're preparing for war."

"And what happens next?"

"He prepares his own pack."

"And after that?"

Rowan answered quietly.

"War."

Several of the Omegas exchanged frightened glances.

Kael noticed.

His eyes moved toward them.

"Why are you all staring?"

Nobody answered.

Kael's voice became sharper.

"I asked a question."

Mira, one of the older Omegas, stepped forward slightly.

"We're afraid, Alpha."

Kael stared at her.

"Of what?"

Mira looked at him carefully.

"Of what happens if Black Ridge attacks."

Kael's expression didn't change.

"They won't attack."

Darius raised an eyebrow.

"You sound certain."

"I am."

"How?"

Kael looked at him.

"Because if they wanted war, they would already have attacked."

Rowan nodded.

"That's what concerns me."

Kael looked at him.

"Why?"

"Because they're waiting."

"Exactly."

Darius sighed.

"And that's why we shouldn't make the first move."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"You think I don't know that?"

"I think you're angry enough to forget it."

The room went silent.

Several Omegas lowered their heads immediately.

Nobody spoke to Kael that way.

Nobody except Rowan.

Kael stared at him.

"Say that again."

Rowan didn't move.

"I said you're angry enough to forget what is at stake."

Kael's voice became dangerously quiet.

"You think my anger is clouding my judgment?"

"I think you're furious."

"I am."

"I know."

"Good."

"And that's why I'm telling you to slow down."

Kael scoffed.

"Slow down?"

"Yes."

"My wolves are missing."

"I know."

"Someone forged your seal."

"I know."

"Someone deliberately sent my pack into enemy territory."

"I know."

"And you're asking me to slow down?"

"I'm asking you to think before you act."

Kael took another step toward him.

"What would you have me do?"

"Investigate."

"I am investigating."

"No," Rowan replied. "You're looking for someone to punish."

Kael's expression changed.

Darius immediately stepped between the tension.

"Both of you need to calm down."

Kael looked at him.

"Do you want to tell me what I should do?"

Darius nodded.

"Yes."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"Go ahead."

Darius took a breath.

"First, we need to find out who had access to Rowan's office."

Kael nodded.

"Continue."

"Second, we need to question every wolf involved in delivering the order."

"Continue."

"Third, we need to establish communication with Black Ridge again."

Kael frowned.

"And the missing wolves?"

"We negotiate their return."

Kael's expression became colder.

"We don't negotiate for our own."

Darius shook his head.

"I'm not saying we abandon them."

"Then what are you saying?"

"I'm saying we don't give Black Ridge a reason to keep them."

Rowan nodded.

"Darius is right."

Kael looked between them.

"You two planned this conversation."

"No," Darius replied.

"We know you."

Kael laughed without humor.

"You think you know me."

"We do," Rowan answered.

"Then you know what happens when someone threatens my pack."

Rowan's expression softened slightly.

"Yes."

"What?"

"You become ruthless."

"I already am."

"Exactly."

Kael turned away.

Darius looked toward the frightened Omegas.

"Everyone needs to remain calm."

One of the younger Omegas, Elia, spoke nervously.

"How are we supposed to remain calm?"

Darius turned toward her.

"Elia—"

"No," she said quickly. "I'm sorry, Beta."

Kael looked at her.

"You have something to say?"

Elia's hands trembled slightly.

"I don't mean to disrespect you."

"I didn't ask whether you meant to disrespect me."

She swallowed.

"I just want to know if we're going to be safe."

Kael stared at her.

"You are in Haven Castle."

Elia looked confused.

"What does that mean?"

"It means nobody touches you without answering to me."

Her shoulders relaxed slightly.

"But if there's a war..."

"There won't be."

"You don't know that."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

Elia immediately looked down.

"I'm sorry."

Kael stared at her for a moment before speaking.

"Don't apologize for asking."

Everyone seemed surprised.

Kael continued.

"Fear makes people imagine the worst. I understand that."

Mira looked at him.

"You do?"

Kael glanced toward her.

"Don't make me regret saying it."

Mira smiled faintly.

"I wouldn't."

Kael turned back to Rowan.

"How did the wolves receive the order?"

"A messenger delivered it."

"Who?"

"We don't know."

Kael's expression hardened.

"You don't know who delivered an official order to twenty-three wolves?"

"No."

"How convenient."

Rowan frowned.

"Kael."

"How convenient."

"Don't accuse me."

"I'm not accusing you."

"You sound like you are."

"I'm accusing the situation."

Darius intervened.

"The messenger wore a hood."

Kael looked at him.

"Why?"

"We don't know."

"Was that unusual?"

"Yes."

"Did anyone challenge him?"

"No."

"Why?"

"Because he carried Rowan's seal."

Kael shook his head.

"Again."

Darius looked at him.

"What?"

"Say it again."

"He carried Rowan's seal."

Kael's voice dropped.

"That's the mistake."

Rowan frowned.

"What mistake?"

"The seal."

"What about it?"

"They didn't need to steal your seal."

Darius's eyes widened slightly.

"They could have created a copy."

"Exactly."

Rowan looked thoughtful.

"So whoever did this planned ahead."

"Yes."

"Which means this wasn't spontaneous."

"No."

Darius crossed his arms.

"Then they've been planning this for some time."

Kael nodded.

"Which means they have been watching us."

The Omegas immediately became more nervous.

Mira spoke quietly.

"Alpha."

Kael looked at her.

"What?"

"Some of us have noticed strangers."

The room became silent again.

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"What strangers?"

Mira looked at Sera.

Sera shook her head.

"You tell him."

Mira looked back at Kael.

"There have been unfamiliar wolves around the castle."

"When?"

"Several days."

Kael's expression became colder.

"And nobody reported it?"

Mira lowered her head.

"We weren't sure."

"Not sure of what?"

"Whether they were dangerous."

Kael looked around the room.

"If you see an unfamiliar wolf near Haven Castle, you report it."

"Yes, Alpha."

"Immediately."

"Yes."

"Not after several days."

"Yes, Alpha."

Kael looked at Sera.

"You saw them too?"

Sera nodded.

"Yes."

"How many?"

"Two."

"Male or female?"

"Two males."

"Did you recognize their scents?"

"No."

"Did they wear pack markings?"

"No."

"Did they speak to anyone?"

Sera hesitated.

"Answer."

"They spoke to me."

Rowan's eyes narrowed.

"What did they ask?"

Sera looked uncomfortable.

"They asked questions."

"What questions?"

"About the castle."

Kael's expression hardened.

"Be specific."

"They asked about the guards."

Darius frowned.

"What about them?"

"They wanted to know when the patrols changed."

Rowan looked at Kael.

"That's surveillance."

Kael nodded.

"What else?"

Sera continued.

"They asked about the northern command post."

Kael's expression became completely still.

"And what did you tell them?"

"Nothing."

"Good."

"They also asked about you."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"Me?"

"Yes."

"What did they ask?"

Sera hesitated.

"Whether you were still strong enough to lead."

Nobody moved.

Kael's voice became very quiet.

"What else?"

"They asked whether your Betas still trusted you."

Rowan exchanged a glance with Darius.

Kael noticed.

"Interesting."

Darius frowned.

"What?"

"They're trying to create division."

Rowan nodded.

"They want you to distrust us."

"They want everyone to distrust everyone."

Mira suddenly spoke.

"There's more."

Kael looked at her.

"What?"

"Someone has been asking about your succession."

Kael's expression darkened.

"What exactly?"

Mira looked nervous.

"They asked what would happen if you were removed."

Darius frowned.

"Removed?"

Mira nodded.

"Those were the words."

Kael stared at her.

"Who?"

"I don't know."

"When?"

"Three nights ago."

"Where?"

"Near the kitchens."

"Who heard it?"

"Elia and Sera."

Kael looked at the two younger Omegas.

Elia nodded nervously.

"Yes, Alpha."

Sera added, "We thought it was just gossip."

Kael's voice was cold.

"Nobody asks about succession casually."

Darius nodded.

"You're right."

Rowan rubbed his jaw thoughtfully.

"This is bigger than the border."

Kael looked at him.

"Say it."

"Someone is testing the pack."

"Testing what?"

"Our loyalty."

Kael's expression remained hard.

"They want to know how Haven responds when I am under pressure."

"And they created a crisis."

"Yes."

Darius looked thoughtful.

"They may not even want a war."

Kael looked at him.

"Then what do they want?"

"Chaos."

Rowan nodded slowly.

"Chaos weakens leadership."

"And weakened leadership creates opportunity," Kael replied.

"Exactly."

Elia's voice came softly from the corner.

"Alpha?"

Kael looked toward her.

"What?"

"What if they want you dead?"

The hall became silent.

Kael stared at her.

Elia immediately looked down.

"I'm sorry."

But Kael didn't shout.

Instead, he answered quietly.

"Then they should have come prepared."

Rowan sighed.

"That's exactly the attitude we're trying to stop."

Kael looked at him.

"What?"

"You cannot keep treating every threat like a challenge."

"I don't."

"You do."

"I survive."

"Sometimes survival requires restraint."

Kael stared at him.

"And sometimes restraint gets people killed."

Rowan shook his head.

"That's not always true."

"It was for my father."

The hall became silent.

Darius looked at Kael.

Kael rarely spoke about his father.

Rowan's voice softened.

"Kael..."

"Don't."

"I wasn't going to—"

"I said don't."

Rowan stopped.

Kael looked away.

"When my father hesitated, people died."

Darius replied carefully.

"Your father was trying to avoid a war."

"And what did it get him?"

"Kael."

"What did it get him?"

Rowan remained silent.

Kael answered his own question.

"Nothing."

His voice was bitter.

"It got him betrayal."

Darius looked at him.

"You're afraid of repeating his mistake."

Kael's eyes flashed.

"I'm not afraid."

"Then you're determined not to."

Kael said nothing.

Darius continued.

"That's different."

Rowan nodded.

"You don't have to become your father to avoid his mistakes."

Kael looked at him.

"And you don't have to become your father to become a good Alpha."

Kael's expression hardened.

"I am a good Alpha."

"I know."

"Then stop questioning me."

"We're not questioning your ability to lead."

"What are you questioning?"

"Your judgment when you're angry."

Kael was silent.

The Omegas remained completely still.

Finally, Kael spoke.

"Fine."

Darius looked surprised.

"Fine?"

"I'll listen."

Rowan raised an eyebrow.

"Really?"

Kael glared at him.

"Don't ruin the moment."

Darius almost smiled.

"We'll take what we can get."

Kael turned toward the Omegas.

"Everyone who heard anything unusual in the past week will report it."

Mira nodded.

"We will."

"No matter how insignificant it seems."

"Yes."

"No rumors stay hidden."

"Yes, Alpha."

"No unfamiliar wolf is allowed near the castle without being questioned."

Darius nodded.

"I'll assign additional guards."

Kael looked at him.

"Double them."

"Done."

"Triple the northern patrol."

Rowan nodded.

"Done."

"Nobody crosses the border."

Darius looked at him.

"Not even the retrieval team?"

Kael paused.

Then he replied, "The retrieval team will go under diplomatic protection."

Rowan nodded.

"Good."

"But they will not engage unless attacked."

"Agreed."

"And if Black Ridge refuses to return our wolves?"

Darius looked at Rowan.

Rowan answered.

"Then we'll negotiate."

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"And if negotiations fail?"

Rowan held his gaze.

"Then we'll decide what comes next."

Kael nodded slowly.

"Good."

Darius exhaled.

"You've finally calmed down."

Kael looked at him.

"Don't mistake calm for forgiveness."

"I didn't."

"Good."

Rowan looked toward the Omegas.

"You should all return to your quarters."

Kael nodded.

"Wait."

Everyone stopped.

Kael looked at the Omegas.

"Before you leave, understand something."

They listened.

"Tonight, Haven Castle is under my protection."

His voice was firm.

"Nobody will be harmed."

Elia looked up.

"Even if you find the person responsible?"

Kael's expression became unreadable.

"Even then."

"Why?"

"Because I gave you my word."

Mira nodded.

"We trust you."

Kael looked at her.

"You should."

Sera smiled faintly.

"That's the ruthless Alpha talking."

Kael raised an eyebrow.

"You've become very brave."

Sera immediately lowered her head.

"Sorry."

Kael almost smiled.

"Go."

The Omegas began to leave.

But before Elia disappeared through the doorway, Kael called her name.

"Elia."

She stopped.

"Yes, Alpha?"

"Your brother."

Her face changed.

"What about him?"

"He's safe."

Elia stared at him.

"How do you know?"

Kael looked toward Darius.

Darius nodded.

"We received confirmation from the southern patrol. He's not among the missing."

Elia released a breath.

"Thank you."

Kael nodded.

"Go."

She left.

Once the Omegas were gone, the hall became quiet again.

Kael looked at his two Betas.

"Now."

Rowan crossed his arms.

"Now what?"

"Tell me everything you haven't told me."

Darius frowned.

"We've told you everything."

"No."

Kael's voice was firm.

"You've told me what you think I can handle."

Rowan sighed.

"Kael."

"I want the truth."

Darius exchanged a look with Rowan.

Kael noticed.

"There."

"What?"

"That look."

Rowan sighed.

"There is one thing."

"Say it."

"We found something near the northern boundary."

Kael's expression hardened.

"What?"

"A symbol."

"What kind?"

"Carved into a tree."

"What symbol?"

"A crowned wolf."

Kael became completely silent.

Darius watched him carefully.

"You know it?"

Kael's jaw tightened.

"I've seen it before."

Rowan's eyes widened.

"Where?"

Kael didn't answer immediately.

Finally, he spoke.

"Years ago."

Darius frowned.

"Whose symbol is it?"

Kael looked toward the dark windows of Haven Castle.

"I don't know."

Rowan stared at him.

"You're lying."

Kael turned.

"What did you say?"

"You know something."

Kael's eyes hardened.

"Be careful."

"I am."

Darius stepped closer.

"Kael, if you've seen that symbol before, you need to tell us."

Kael remained silent.

Rowan continued.

"Whatever happened years ago may be connected to this."

Kael looked at him.

"It is."

Darius's expression changed.

"How do you know?"

"Because the last time I saw that symbol..."

He stopped.

Rowan waited.

"The pack lost twelve wolves."

Silence.

Darius's face became serious.

"How?"

Kael's voice was low.

"Betrayal."

Rowan stared at him.

"From whom?"

Kael's expression became cold.

"I never found out."

Darius whispered, "And now the symbol is back."

"Yes."

Rowan's face hardened.

"Then this isn't a new enemy."

Kael shook his head.

"No."

Darius asked, "Who is it?"

Kael looked toward the doors through which the Omegas had disappeared.

"Someone who has been waiting."

Rowan frowned.

"Waiting for what?"

Kael's eyes turned dark.

"For me to become exactly who they remember."

Darius swallowed.

"And who do they remember?"

Kael's answer was quiet.

"The monster."

Rowan stared at him.

"And are you?"

Kael's eyes narrowed.

"I don't know."

Darius sighed.

"That's the first honest thing you've said tonight."

Kael looked at him.

"I said I would try."

Rowan smiled faintly.

"Then try."

Kael looked down at his clenched hands.

"I will."

Darius nodded.

"And we'll bring the two wolves home."

Kael looked at both Betas.

"Yes."

Rowan stepped forward.

"Then we start now."

Kael nodded.

"Now."

Darius turned toward the doors.

"Rowan."

"Yes?"

"Bring the northern commander."

Rowan nodded.

"And the wolves who carried the order?"

"Question them separately."

Darius nodded.

"The messenger?"

Kael's expression hardened.

"Find him."

"And if we don't?"

Kael looked at him.

"We will."

Darius nodded.

"Yes, Alpha."

Rowan turned to leave.

Kael stopped him.

"Rowan."

He turned.

"Yes?"

"If you discover that someone inside this castle helped them..."

Rowan waited.

Kael's expression was cold, but his voice was controlled.

"Bring them to me."

Rowan nodded.

"Alive?"

Kael stared at him.

"Alive."

Rowan smiled slightly.

"That's progress."

Kael gave him a warning look.

"Don't test me."

Rowan chuckled quietly.

"I wouldn't dream of it."

Darius shook his head.

"You two are impossible."

Kael looked toward the northern windows.

Outside, the moon hung over the forest, illuminating the walls of Haven Castle.

Somewhere beyond those walls, two members of his pack remained missing.

Somewhere beyond the northern boundary, an enemy was watching.

And somewhere within the shadows, someone had decided that Alpha Kael was no longer untouchable.

Kael's voice finally broke the silence.

"Lock the castle."

Darius nodded.

"Already done."

"Increase the guards."

"Already done."

"Search every room."

Rowan frowned.

"Every room?"

"Every room."

"You think they're inside?"

"I think we stop assuming they're not."

Darius nodded.

"Understood."

Rowan looked at him.

"And Kael?"

Kael turned.

"Yes?"

"Whatever happens tonight..."

Kael waited.

"Don't face it alone."

Kael stared at his Beta for a long moment.

Then he nodded once.

"I won't."

Rowan smiled.

"Good."

Kael looked toward the enormous doors of Haven Castle.

"Because if someone wants my pack..."

His voice dropped.

"They'll have to come through all of us."

And for the first time that night, the silence inside Haven Castle did not feel like fear.

It felt like preparation.
