Chapter 5 - What's so good about Zatanna? Let me, Wayne, tell you

"This truly is the most troublesome first day of school I've ever encountered," Rune thought to himself before going to bed.DC World."I'm really sorry…" Sister Angelia looked at Rune apologetically. "Perhaps you could… stay a few more days. It's raining today, and I can find…""No, thank you," Rune shook his head in thanks, then left the place with the 25 dollars and a few changes of clothes given by the church. After all, in Gotham, finding a stable place to grow up was not easy. Rune now had ways to make money, but first, he needed to find a place to settle, otherwise he would have to sleep under a bridge. However, before Rune could even leave the block, two white men approached him. They were tall and thin, with vacant eyes, and one of them was holding a black umbrella. Rune subconsciously cast a Shield Charm on himself, watching the two vigilantly."Want some good stuff?" one of the white men bent down, resting one hand on his knee, and with the other hand reached into his clothes, pulling out a small packet of white powder the size of a fingernail. "Only five dollars, just five dollars, and you'll find true happiness…"The other white Men saw Rune say nothing, and lifted his left hand to reveal a gleaming pistol tucked inside his clothes."Who do you work for?" Rune asked. The two white men froze, then burst out laughing. Rune sighed, and the white Men with the gun immediately flew backward, his black umbrella falling to the ground, while the gun from his waist landed directly in Rune's hand."Goodbye." With a bang, a bullet grazed the other white Men's ear, and he screamed and ran. But then the gun fired a few more times, and this time he wasn't so lucky; three bullets passed through his chest. The white Men collapsed to the ground, feeling an icy cold, and watched his friend nearby being strangled by his clothes that had come to life, slowly closing his eyes.Rune carefully put the gun away, awkwardly held the umbrella with his neck, and rubbed his wrist. This was his first time killing someone, but Rune felt no disgust, perhaps because these two drug addicts didn't die bloody enough?"Bullets fly." More than ten bullets flew over and were stuffed into Rune's pocket. Guns were good things; in Gotham, people only recognized these. With it, you were a real person. The bigger and more guns, the bigger the shot. The rain was falling harder, and Rune casually found a storefront to shelter from it. A girl happened to walk out of the store. Her long, dark hair cascaded over her shoulders and down her back, her sapphire blue eyes like a deep ocean or glittering jewels, sparkling with lively light. Her eyes seemed to hold endless stories and secrets. Her face was small and delicate, as if favored by the Creator, and her skin revealed a sickly pallor. She was dressed only in a pure white dress and white shoes. The silk fabric of the dress was as fine as silk, and the waist of the skirt was cleverly cinched, outlining a slender waist and showcasing the feminine curves. At the hem of the skirt, the hand-embroidered patterns were delicate and exquisite, with silver threads outlining intricate designs. Rather than a piece of clothing, it was a work of art. It should not have appeared here, but rather worn by an elf in a fairyland. However, Rune took a few steps back, staring intently at the other person. Compared to her, Rune was wearing an ill-fitting leather jacket, and the only thing on him that could compare was his face, but he dared not be careless. The girl in front of him was a Wizard, and her magic was powerful; the rain couldn't even wet her clothes."Hmm?" The girl looked at Rune in surprise. "You… you are a Wizard!"Rune felt all his defenses were like a joke; she was so innocent, as if she wasn't a Gothamite."Zatanna!" A small boy ran over, panting. Compared to the girl's ease, the boy was more disheveled, his equally expensive clothes largely soaked. He caught his breath, then said, "Why did you come out to buy things? You just needed to tell me, and I could buy anything for you. It's very dangerous outside."Zatanna? Rune mused. Then the little boy next to her must be the future Batman. Thinking of this, Rune felt a little guilty, especially since he had just sent two drug addicts to their demise.Zatanna said as a matter of course, "I can't always use your money. We are friends, and I have my pride! If you truly respect me, then come with me to the convenience store to buy something.""Alright, alright," Little Bruce said helplessly.Conservatively, her clothes could probably feed and entertain me for a whole year… Thinking this, Rune shook his head and turned to leave. But Little Bruce immediately grabbed him."You… I think I've seen you somewhere," Little Bruce looked at him."Of course, I was also present when your father donated to the monastery," Rune said with a sad expression. "Thank you for your father's contributions to Gotham City. I am very sorry for his death, but I must go."Little Bruce let go of Rune, saying nothing. And Zatanna didn't say much either; she could only suppress her inner curiosity and let Rune leave.Rune raised his umbrella and left the store, taking shortcuts, hoping to find some fools to earn some money—he had only wanted to find a place to hide from the rain and forgot to search the drug addicts for money. On the streets, rainwater quickly converged into rushing streams, flowing along the ancient cobblestone paths. The rain washed over every inch of Gotham, neon lights flickering faintly in the rain curtain, distorted into blurry light spots by the water. Most of the shops along the streets had already closed, with only a few still open, casting a warm yet feeble light through their dim lamps. As time passed, the rain grew heavier, but this could not conceal the city's sins. Gunshots, curses, and the wail of police sirens occasionally echoed from afar. However, the latter sounded especially faint in the rainy night, as if they could be drowned out by the sound of the rain at any moment.Feeling his heavy pockets, Rune smiled contentedly. Gotham was truly a good city. Through the few battles just now, he had tested part of the strength of Hogwarts' Perpetual Protection; this magic could ignore most pistol and submachine gun bullets. As for rifles and machine guns… he hadn't had a chance to try, but this was enough.Dumbledore… Rune narrowed his eyes; he couldn't let the White Dark Lord die so easily. If that noseless one ran rampant, wouldn't his trip have been in vain?He randomly found a rental notice on a wall, then went to the house and used Confundo to muddle the owner's perception, successfully renting the house for half a year. Rune lay on the sofa, lost in thought. He hadn't hesitated at all when killing, but now that he was idle, he felt a bit lost, feeling that something was not quite right with him. However, in the depths of Gotham, large groups of black-robed figures knelt on the ground."She has come again, my Master…"
