Synopsis
In a hidden world that appears only between midnight and dawn, MoonShade Inn welcomes souls who cannot move on. Kael, its immortal owner, has waited for over 700 years—bound by a curse he cannot break and a love he cannot forget. The woman he once saved from death was taken from him, forced to live countless lives, dying again and again before they could ever be together. When Yuna, a human woman haunted by strange dreams, accidentally enters the inn, she feels an unexplainable connection to the place—and to Kael. But she doesn’t remember him. As she uncovers the secrets of MoonShade Inn, Yuna realizes the truth is far more dangerous than she imagined. She is not just a visitor—she is the key to everything. And in her first life, she was the one who cursed the man who has been waiting for her all this time. Torn between Kael, who is willing to lose her to save her, and Jaehyun, a mysterious man who would destroy the world to keep her, Yuna must choose between love and freedom. Because if she remembers everything— the inn will fall, the curse will break, and one of them will disappear forever.

Chapter 1 - The Inn That Should Not Exist

The first time Yuna saw the sign, she thought it was a dream.

Not the kind of dream that fades when you wake up—but the kind that lingers at the edge of memory, like a name you almost remember but can't quite say out loud.

MOONSHADE INN

The letters were carved into old black iron, hanging in the middle of nowhere.

No road. No village. No sound of traffic.

Only fog.

Thick, slow-moving fog that curled around her ankles like something alive.

Yuna stood still.

Her breath came out uneven.

"This can't be real…" she whispered to herself, but even her voice sounded wrong here—muted, swallowed by the silence.

She checked her phone.

No signal.

No network.

Battery: 17%.

She frowned. She had been walking on the highway just ten minutes ago. Just ten minutes. She clearly remembered the streetlights, the faint hum of passing cars, the argument she had with herself about taking a shortcut.

And then—

the fog.

Now there was nothing but this place.

The inn.

It didn't look abandoned.

That was the strangest part.

It looked… alive.

Warm light glowed faintly through tall arched windows, flickering like candles behind expensive glass. The structure itself was old—Victorian, maybe—but untouched by time. Not decayed. Not modernized.

Frozen.

As if the world had forgotten it existed.

Yuna swallowed.

"This is not funny," she said aloud, hoping someone would answer.

No one did.

But the doors—

they opened.

Slowly.

Without wind.

Without sound.

Just a dark gap forming in the center of the building like it was breathing.

Yuna took one step back.

Her instincts screamed at her to run.

But her body didn't listen.

Because something inside her chest tightened.

A strange ache.

Familiar.

Like déjà vu wrapped around her heart.

She blinked.

For a split second, she thought she saw someone standing inside.

A man.

Tall. Still. Watching.

But when she focused again—

he was gone.

"…Hello?" she called out cautiously.

Silence answered.

Then—

a voice.

Soft. Calm. Almost too calm.

"You're late."

Yuna froze.

The voice came from inside the inn.

Not loud. Not threatening.

Worse.

It sounded like it knew her.

Her fingers curled into fists.

"I think you've got the wrong person," she said quickly. "I don't even know where I am."

A pause.

Then footsteps.

Slow.

Measured.

Approaching the doorway.

And then he appeared.

He stepped into the light like he had been carved out of shadow itself.

Tall. Dark-haired. Pale skin that looked untouched by sunlight. His eyes—too deep, too still—locked onto hers instantly.

Yuna felt her breath stop.

He wasn't just looking at her.

He was recognizing her.

Like she had been gone for a very long time.

Like she had finally returned.

"You always say that," he said quietly.

Her throat tightened.

"I don't know you."

A faint shift crossed his expression.

Not surprise.

Something more dangerous.

Sadness.

But it disappeared quickly, buried beneath calm control.

"You will," he said.

Yuna took another step back.

"This is insane. I don't know who you are, and I don't know where this place is, but I'm leaving."

She turned sharply.

But the fog behind her had changed.

It wasn't fog anymore.

It was a wall.

Thick. White. Endless.

No path. No road. No exit.

Just silence.

Her heartbeat rose.

She spun back around.

The man was still there.

Watching.

Waiting.

Behind him, the inn glowed warmer now, like it was inviting her in.

"You can't leave through that way," he said gently.

Yuna's voice sharpened.

"Then I'll find another way."

"There isn't one."

The words weren't cruel.

Just final.

Something about that made her anger flare.

"Who are you?" she demanded. "What is this place?"

He hesitated.

Just for a moment.

Then—

"MoonShade Inn," he said. "And I am Kael."

The name settled in the air like a weight.

Kael.

It didn't mean anything to her.

And yet—

her chest tightened again.

Stronger this time.

Painfully familiar.

She pressed a hand to her chest instinctively.

"What did you do to me?" she whispered.

Kael's gaze flickered down to her hand.

Then back to her eyes.

"I didn't do anything," he said softly.

A pause.

Then, quieter:

"I've only been waiting."

Something in his voice cracked—not visibly, not dramatically—but just enough that Yuna noticed it.

Just enough to make her hesitate.

But fear still won.

"I don't care what this is," she said. "Let me go."

Kael stepped aside.

Slowly.

Like he was giving her permission.

"You're free to try," he said.

That unsettled her more than if he had stopped her.

Yuna turned again toward the fog.

She walked forward.

One step.

Two steps.

The air grew heavier.

Cold.

Wrong.

Then—

she stopped.

Because something inside her head shifted.

A whisper.

Not audible.

Not spoken.

But felt.

Don't go.

Her eyes widened slightly.

She looked back.

Kael hadn't moved.

He was still watching her.

Still calm.

Still waiting.

Like he already knew she would stop.

Yuna shook her head sharply.

"No… no, this is not happening."

She forced herself forward again.

But this time—

the world reacted.

The fog thickened violently, swirling like it was alive, pushing against her body.

She gasped as cold air cut through her lungs.

Her vision blurred.

And then—

a memory flashed.

Not hers.

Not fully.

A hand reaching for hers.

Warm rain.

A voice calling her name—

"Yuna…"

She staggered.

"What…?" she whispered.

The memory vanished instantly.

She nearly fell.

But strong arms caught her.

Yuna froze completely.

She looked up.

Kael was holding her.

So close she could feel his breath.

So close it felt like something ancient had just wrapped around her fate.

"You shouldn't force it," he said quietly.

His voice was different now.

Lower.

Tighter.

As if holding something back.

Yuna pulled away immediately, stumbling back.

"Don't touch me!"

Kael didn't react to her anger.

Only looked at her hand for a second.

Like he was checking if she was real.

Then he said something that made her blood run cold.

"You always forget faster in this life."

Yuna's eyes widened.

"…what did you say?"

But Kael didn't answer.

Instead, he turned slightly toward the inn.

And the doors opened wider.

Inviting.

Waiting.

"You're exhausted," he said. "Come inside. Just for tonight."

Yuna laughed sharply.

"I don't even know you."

"I know."

That answer again.

Too calm.

Too certain.

Yuna stared at him.

Something about him didn't feel human—not in a frightening way exactly, but in a way that made reality feel unstable around him.

Like he existed slightly outside of time.

Behind him, the inn lights flickered gently.

Warm.

Safe-looking.

Deceptively safe.

Her instincts screamed again.

But her body was tired.

Her mind was overwhelmed.

And that strange ache in her chest wouldn't stop growing.

Like something inside her recognized him even when she didn't.

"…If I go in," she said slowly, "you let me leave tomorrow."

Kael looked at her for a long moment.

Then nodded.

"Yes."

One word.

Simple.

Too simple.

Yuna hesitated.

Then finally—

she stepped forward.

Crossed the threshold.

The moment she entered, the world behind her vanished completely.

The fog disappeared.

The silence deepened.

And the doors closed behind her without a sound.

Inside MoonShade Inn, the air smelled like old wood, candle wax, and something faintly floral—like memories that refused to die.

Yuna turned around immediately.

But there was no outside anymore.

Only walls.

Only the inn.

Only him.

Kael stood a few steps away, watching her carefully.

As if afraid she might disappear.

Yuna swallowed hard.

"What is this place?" she asked again, quieter this time.

Kael's gaze darkened slightly.

"This is where people come," he said.

A pause.

Then—

"And never leave the same."

A distant clock chimed somewhere inside the inn.

But it didn't sound like time passing.

It sounded like something waking up.

And deep inside MoonShade Inn—

something that had been waiting for her finally began to remember.
