Chapter 5 - The Question Without an Answer

Chapter 5:The word wouldn't leave her.

"Why…"

It echoed in Ayusha's mind even after she woke up, lingering like a shadow that refused to fade. She sat on her bed, staring blankly at the wall, her thoughts tangled and restless. The dream had felt too real—more real than anything she had experienced before. It wasn't just a vision of the future. It was something else, something deeper, something that felt connected to her in a way she couldn't understand.

"Why me?" she whispered softly.

The question slipped out without her realizing it, and for a moment, the room felt heavier, as if something had heard her.

Ayusha shook her head quickly, trying to push the thought away.

"No… I'm just overthinking," she told herself.

But the feeling didn't disappear.

Instead, it stayed.

Watching.

Waiting.

As she got ready for school, her movements were slower than usual. Every action felt distant, like her body was moving on its own while her mind stayed stuck on that single word.

Why.

It wasn't just the shadow asking anymore.

She was asking it too.

When she reached school, the atmosphere felt normal again, but Ayusha couldn't ignore the difference within herself. The corridors, the classrooms, the voices of students—everything seemed the same, yet she felt disconnected from all of it.

As if she was standing slightly outside her own life.

She walked into her classroom quietly and took her seat without saying much to anyone. Her eyes moved across the room, but not out of curiosity—out of habit.

Or maybe—

Out of caution.

"What if it happens again?" she thought.

The idea made her chest tighten slightly.

She had already seen what her visions could do. She had already tried to change them. And now, she had seen something even more disturbing.

The shadow.

The whisper.

The question.

"What does it want from me?" she wondered.

The thought stayed in her mind as the class began. The teacher's voice filled the room, but Ayusha barely heard any of it. Her focus was elsewhere, drifting between memory and uncertainty.

And then—

It happened again.

The sudden stillness.

The silence.

The frozen world.

Ayusha's body stiffened instantly.

"No…" she whispered.

Her heart began to race.

But this time—

Something felt different.

The vision didn't begin immediately.

Instead—

The silence stretched.

Longer than before.

Heavier.

Almost suffocating.

Ayusha looked around, her breathing uneven.

"This isn't like the others…" she said softly.

Her eyes searched the room, but nothing changed. Everything remained frozen, unmoving.

Too still.

Then—

The whisper returned.

"Why…"

Ayusha closed her eyes tightly.

"Stop…" she said.

But the whisper didn't stop.

It repeated again.

And again.

"Why…"

Ayusha's hands clenched.

"What do you want?" she asked, her voice trembling.

For a moment—

There was silence.

And then—

Something changed.

The classroom didn't shift into a future scene.

Instead—

It began to darken.

Slowly.

The walls, the desks, the floor—everything started fading into shadow.

Ayusha's eyes widened in fear.

"This isn't a vision…" she realized.

Her voice shook.

"This is something else."

The darkness spread until the entire space felt unfamiliar, almost unreal.

And then—

She saw it.

The shadow.

Standing in front of her.

Clearer than before.

Still shifting, still unstable, but no longer just a flicker.

It was there.

Fully present.

Ayusha stepped back instinctively.

Her heart pounded loudly in her chest.

"You…" she whispered.

The shadow didn't move.

But the air around it felt heavy.

Almost alive.

"Why are you doing this?" she asked.

Her voice was stronger this time, even though fear still lingered inside her.

The shadow flickered slightly.

And then—

The whisper came again.

"Why…"

Ayusha's frustration began to rise.

"That's not an answer!" she said.

Her voice echoed in the dark space.

"You keep asking that, but what does it mean?"

The shadow flickered more intensely, as if reacting to her tone.

Ayusha's breathing became uneven.

"I don't understand!" she continued.

"Are you trying to tell me something? Or are you just… following me?"

For a moment—

Nothing happened.

Then—

The shadow moved.

Not suddenly.

Not violently.

But slowly.

Toward her.

Ayusha froze.

Her body tensed.

"Don't come closer…" she whispered.

But the shadow didn't stop.

It moved closer.

Step by step.

Until it was right in front of her.

Ayusha felt a chill run through her entire body.

"What are you?" she asked again.

Her voice barely audible.

The shadow flickered.

And then—

For the first time—

It reacted differently.

Instead of reaching out or circling her—

It paused.

As if waiting.

Ayusha's breathing slowed slightly.

Something about this moment felt different.

Less threatening.

More… uncertain.

"Are you… trying to communicate?" she asked carefully.

The shadow flickered again.

Softer this time.

Ayusha hesitated for a moment.

Then—

She did something she hadn't done before.

She didn't step back.

She stepped forward.

Her heart pounded loudly, but she forced herself to stay calm.

"If you want me to understand…" she said quietly, "then show me."

The moment the words left her mouth—

The shadow reacted.

It flickered violently.

The darkness around them shifted.

And suddenly—

Images flashed in her mind.

Quick.

Unclear.

Fragments of something she couldn't fully see.

Fear.

Confusion.

Pain.

Ayusha gasped, stepping back slightly.

"What was that?" she whispered.

The shadow didn't answer.

But its presence felt heavier now.

More intense.

As if it had tried to show her something—but failed.

"I don't understand…" she said.

Her voice filled with frustration.

"You're not making sense!"

The shadow flickered again.

And then—

Everything disappeared.

The darkness faded.

The classroom returned.

The noise came back.

The movement.

The voices.

Everything normal again.

Ayusha sat there, her breathing uneven, her hands trembling slightly.

"That wasn't a vision…" she realized.

"That was… something else."

Her heart was still racing.

Her mind filled with questions.

But one thing was clear now.

The shadow wasn't just asking "why."

It was trying to show her something.

Something important.

Something she couldn't understand yet.

Ayusha looked down at her hands, her fingers still slightly shaking.

"This is getting deeper…" she whispered.

Because now—

It wasn't just about seeing the future.

It was about understanding something hidden.

Something connected to her.

And until she understood it—

The question would never stop.

"Why…"
