Chapter 10 - Dealing

"Well… my name is Satoru Gojo, Officer Jenny."

Jenny gave a small nod.

"Alright, Satoru."

She stepped a little closer, her tone calm—but firm.

"Can you tell me where you're from… and what happened to put you in that situation?"

Satoru didn't answer immediately.

He thought.

If he told the full truth—

there was a high chance they wouldn't believe him.

Or worse—

they would.

Either way…

it wouldn't end well.

So—

he chose carefully.

"…That depends."

Jenny raised an eyebrow.

"Depends on what?"

Satoru met her gaze directly.

"…What kind of officer are you?"

A brief pause.

"The kind that listens?"

"…Or the kind that decides first—and listens later?"

Jenny, however…

smiled slightly.

"…Go on."

Satoru exhaled softly.

"Ma'am, I don't mean any disrespect…"

"…but I ended up in that situation because of my parents."

The room grew quieter.

Jenny's expression shifted—just a little.

"…Explain."

Satoru nodded.

"They were… abusive."

A pause.

"Control was important to them."

"Decisions wanted to sell me and my brother for profit , my brother escaped but

I was left there ..... ."

Another pause.

"And when those decisions didn't go their way—"

"…they used force."

Jenny's gaze sharpened.

"…Those injuries."

Satoru didn't look away.

"…Are consistent with that, aren't they?

He stopped there.

No names.No location.

No details that could trace back.

Just enough truth—

to be believable.

Jenny studied him carefully.

"…And how did you end up falling from the sky?"

A pause.

Satoru tilted his head slightly.

"…I don't know."

Not entirely a lie.

"…One moment I was there."

"The next—"

"…I woke up here."

Silence settled again.

Jenny crossed her arms.

Thinking.

Not just about his words ,but about how he said them.Too controlled for a child his age.but expected of a psychic .

"…I see."

Jenny folded her arms, studying him carefully.

"So… what exactly are you asking?"

"You don't want us to inform your parents?"

A pause.

"Then what do we do with you?"

Satoru didn't hesitate.

"I just need time."

A small pause.

"Until I turn nine."

Jenny frowned slightly.

"…And until then?"

"I can stay where I am currently residing."

He glanced briefly toward Cynthia—

then back at Jenny.

"I will compensate them, of course."

Jenny blinked.

"…Compensate?"

"With what?"

Satoru answered calmly.

"My inheritance."

The room went still.

"My parents are… no longer alive."

A brief pause.

"I was taken in by relatives."

He continued—

voice steady.

"They managed our estate."

"And when my brother grew older…"

"…they became afraid of losing control."

Jenny's expression hardened slightly.

"…Go on."

Satoru looked down for a moment—

then back up.

"They tried to get rid of him."

A half-truth.

"And I was next."

Silence.

Then—

"If I remember correctly…"

"I currently have around ten million Pokédollars in my account."

Jenny froze.

"…Ten… million?"

Even she couldn't hide her reaction.

That kind of money—

wasn't normal.

Not for a child.

Satoru continued as if it were nothing.

"I can offer three hundred thousand Pokédollars…"

"…for housing and care over the next two years."

Jenny stared at him.

"…That's excessive."

A pause.

"Why not file a complaint?"

"Fight this legally?"

"For most people, that kind of money could last a lifetime if used properly."

Satoru shook his head slightly.

"And gain what?"

He met her eyes.

"risk losing my freedom again or risk losing everything I still have?"

A small pause.

"Who's to say the same people won't come after the rest of it?"

Not entirely true.

Jenny exhaled slowly.

He wasn't thinking like a child.

Protecting himself.

"…You've thought this through."

"…I had to."

Silence lingered.

After nearly an hour of discussion—

they reached an agreement.

Later-

Officer Jenny stepped aside with Cynthia's grandmother.

Her tone lowered.

Measured.

"The boy is… unusual."

The grandmother didn't respond immediately.

She had already noticed.

"Unusual," she repeated quietly.

"…is one way to put it."

Silence settled between them.

Then—

"but he's not dangerous as far as I saw his pokemon ," the grandmother continued.

Jenny folded her arms.

"He's requesting to stay here."

"With compensation."

That made the grandmother sigh.

"…I don't like the idea of a child thinking he has to pay to be safe."

Her gaze softened slightly.

"But I also don't like the idea of sending him back."

Jenny nodded.

"So?"

A long pause.

"…One month."

Jenny raised an eyebrow.

"A trial period."

The grandmother continued calmly.

"He can stay here for now ."

"We will observe for now ."And if anything feels wrong—"

Jenny considered it.

Then nodded.

"That's reasonable."

A small pause.

"I'll check in periodically." "And the money?"

The grandmother shook her head.

"…We'll discuss that later."

They returned.

Satoru looked up.Silently waiting.

Cynthia leaned forward slightly—

curious.

spoke

Satoru didn't react immediately.

"…Understood."

"After that," the grandmother added,

"…we decide if this arrangement continues."

Another pause.

"And for now—""No payment is needed and who put this in your head and how even old are you."

Satoru frowned slightly.

"…That wasn't the agreement."

The grandmother met his gaze.

"…You're a child and children should live there childhood not drown them. "

Silence.

Satoru held her gaze for a moment—

then looked away."…Very well."

From the side—

Cynthia grinned.

"Looks like you will be staying with us from now on ."

Satoru glanced at her and said

Thank you .
