Chapter 3 - The Interrupted Feast

[SYSTEM: Meet and Greet with the players has begun.] [Location: Meeting Room.] [Quest: Identify the other heirs.]

I found myself sitting at a white table in a chair. The strange part was that there were six other people sitting around me. Of course, the strange thing wasn't their presence, but the expressions on their faces. They were staring at me in bewilderment, as if there was something bizarre about my face.

Suddenly, a voice rang out.

"I thought there would only be six of us," said a girl sitting some distance away. I could see her name tag. This girl with black hair and dark eyes was Willow. Her surprised expression was more subtle compared to the others. She looked like a real pain; I was already a bit intimidated.

"Looking at the name tag, she's part of the game too, but look - it doesn't list her city!" This time, the speaker was Pandora, a redhead possessed of incredible beauty.

Speaking of cities, I checked their tags. Each one had a city written under their name.

First, there was Adira, a girl with blonde braided hair and a serious gaze. She had a single golden horn on her head. I felt a sense of kinship toward her. The city corresponding to her was the City of Deserts.

Pandora, the beautiful redhead, had fairy-like wings. This girl, who looked like she only lacked a magic wand in her hand, was from the City of Lands.

Willow was from the City of Oceans. Whatever kind of city that was supposed to be.

Callahan was a young man emitting a strange aura, and his tag read City of Fires. He had wavy white hair and stagnant white eyes.

The most terrifying one was Roman, a young man from the City of Ice who caught the eye with his emerald green eyes and black hair; he had a snake coiled around his neck.

Finally, the handsome young man sitting closest to me, who had long blue hair just like mine, was from the City of Forests. His name was Xander. For a moment, I thought I saw something moving beside him, but I didn't pay much attention; nothing in this room was normal anyway.

Roman spoke in a harsh tone: "Look at the horn on her head, people. She's a demon."

Willow replied, "Could it be related to a secret mission or something? If so, we need to observe her." She crossed her arms, her sour mood evident.

Adira chimed in: "We don't even know her city. Let's attack her first." It was clear she was ambitious.

Finally, Xander, who had been observing the surroundings, cut in with a plain tone. "Or you could bring her to your side; this is a strategy game." Then, he winked at me.

"The man is right, we don't know her city yet," Roman said.

Callahan chose to remain silent.

Finally, I spoke up: "I'm part of this game too. That old geezer at the start told me to roll the dice, and I ended up here."

Everyone looked at each other with curiosity.

Adira asked, "What is she talking about?"

I looked at Xander's face; he was looking at me with a neutral expression.

"Didn't you see the old man? The dramatic one?"

Maybe I was the first player, and since he died, naturally there was no old man left for them.

"I'm starting to think he's part of the quest," Pandora babbled in her gentle voice.

Then I told myself to stop for a second; it would be better if they didn't attack me. After all, it was impossible for me to win in the City of Garbage.

"You all guessed it. I'm not a part of the game; I'm here to guide you," I spoke with a majestic voice. This wasn't enough; it had to be convincing. I stood up and started my show.

"The reason for this meeting is purely to bond. Lower your guards and have fun!"

Puzzled eyes were on me. Did they not believe it?

Xander joined in, raising his glass toward me: "Let's listen to her. We can't fight on an empty stomach."

That's when I noticed the feast on the table. Fried chicken, pizzas, wines, steaks... it seemed to go on forever. Maybe I could pocket some if possible.

Let them believe me or not, I thought. I was going to have a feast before I died.

I sat down quickly and brought a slice of pizza to my mouth. But the system chose that exact moment to take action.

[SYSTEM: Everyone will return to their respective cities.] [WARNING: Exiting the meeting hall. You cannot take any items from the hall with you.]
