Lawrence sat still in the dark basement, her fingers hovering over her keyboard, completely frozen. A sharp chirp from her perimeter security grid cut through the low hum of the servers. She glanced at her secondary monitor. Someone was moving past in the bushes outside. It was Mr. Fixer.
He had followed Lawrence earlier in the week when she was in town, trailing her from the grocery store to the transit hub until she ducked sharply into a bustling, multi-level electronics market, navigating the crowded stalls, and packed exit corridors until she slipped through a rear service exit meant only for staff. She lost him that day but somehow, he had found her again and this time it was in her off grid cabin.
