***JANE POV ***
After what happened at the Burial, I took it up to myself to monitor him. It took 3 weeks to fully get this guy, but it wasn't in vain.
So predictable, thanks to his over orderly attitude.
What a psycho?
After all, all this weird habit of his, all point at two things, he is either after my life because he is the culprit or he really feels bad about his friend.
His schedule, he leaves the male dormitory by 6:30 am and if he is late, that would be around 6:40 am. He goes for a jog for like half an hour, goes into his room change for school. Goes for breakfast by 8. Class starts by 9. However, I noticed something strange, his lunch is different. Not the meal, but he doesn't take as much as the whole school. He eats with his friends by 1 in the afternoon (13:00).
The other weird thing about his day is the fact that he goes to Dormain Hall, the building where Nathan unalive himself by 8 in the evening. I would have loved to check why and what he does there but, that's the time Emma placed her tutor classes.
Emma was asked to tutor Nafisat, some others and I. If I missed it, I would get in trouble with the teachers.
I was so curious to know why he goes there, and always by that time. When the time strikes at 8:00 pm (20:00) he enters the building.
On the chosen day, I pretended to be sick. I stayed in the dorm throughout. A few minutes to 8pm, his usual visit, I wore a black cloth like I see in most of the serial killer movies. I trailed him, when we go to the top of the building, he sat on the floor, brought out two bottles of a weird drink, he places one in front of him and the other at another side. He sits and talks to himself like he is talking to someone, he also laughed alone. The laughter was so deep that it looks so real but this makes absolutely no sense.
"Is he insane?" I couldn't help but think.
I hid behind a door that leads to the passage. Andrews stood up, walked toward the door. He pushed me inside as he enters more like he knew I was there...
"What...." I tried to speak but he covered her mouth with his hand, and I could feel every movement his breathing made on me.
Few seconds later, the Principal walked in. I watched him through the little opening at the door. He picked up the bottles, looked around the hall before walking away.
Seeing the Principal leave, I removed his hands and gave him a dark stare, walked out of the room stood where he sat the last time.
"Why are you here? Are you obsessed with your murder case?"
"Are you crazy?" Andrew asked in a low and calm tone.
"I should be asking you that." I fired back. "You sit here all by yourself, laughing and talking to no one. You have been acting strange, your grades are falling and you ask me if I am crazy when you are clearly the crazy one."
Andrew remained silent. My words were so heavy and I felt like I could take them back but they it is too late.
"I am sorry." I said to break the silence between us which was making me so uncomfortable.
Instead of replying, Andrew sat, stared into the sky like he was wishing upon a falling star. He looked so devastated and like depression was eating him up.
"Is it wrong to miss someone...especially if the person meant everything to you." He said still looking up.
"What happened? Before, during and after"
"So, after Nathan's death, I found it hard to keep up. I am not really a social person, and most people weren't interested in talking with me because of the rumour that I made my best friend commit suicide. Although, it is one thing in this world that I will never believe. Never! Every day, like my usual tradition with Nathan, I went to our usual hangout, I took our usual drink along and I pretended that he was still alive, until...." He explained then suddenly turned and stared right into my eye, I could feel my stomach leap. ".... you came to interrupt. "
"Are you stalking me?" Looking back at the sky, he asked knowing fully well that I would deny it.
"You are a very boring person why would I stalk you, also, I got here by mistake." I lied without stuttering."
'Your lies are getting better'
'You think so?' I replied without thinking it through.
'No.' He replied coldly, looked at me and then laughed. " I am glad you are here." He looked me straight in the eye again and this time it was my heart. Damn it, he is good with eye contact.
"I doubt it. You know why? You broke character. Now answer my question? Why are you here? Let me guess, you fell in love with me, so you decided that stalking me would be the best thing to do." He said teasing. It sounded like he didn't want to talk about the whole thing that was hurting him at the moment
We talked for about an hour or two about different topics. Topics on cooking, how the teachers walk and how some sleep in class and complain when the student sleeps. Don't worry, we didn't leave the principal out, Mr. Sal, such a weird man. The conversation was endless and the flow was just like the current from a happy ocean.
The alarm for night prep rang.
"Shoot, we totally lost track of time. I better go change before the Resident Assistant sees me." I said as I wore her shoe. "What about you, what would you be doing?"
"I will continue with my research on those who has been affected this semester and what they have in common. Then I will report to you tomorrow. Good night. " He replied with a smile so bright. I haven't seen him smile that wide.
"Good night" I replied. I did want to give him a hug but it might feel out of nowhere so I just let a wave do it job.
"Jane….." I paused at his call. "Thank you." I nodded and left. I couldn't help but wonder why he was appreciating me, all I did was suspect he is the killer.
ON my way back, I couldn't help but wonder, Why and how they are being selected, who is their next victim?
