Chapter 15 - The Background 2

Although it looked nothing like that of Nafi but it was still scary.

Then slowly, I opened it.

The first line read:

Fear not, it is your freaking Queen.

I immediately exhaled in relief then followed by a loud ridiculous laughter.

"Of course," I muttered.

Only Vivian would introduce herself like that during a crisis.

The paper was filled with words written in surprisingly beautiful handwriting.

I sat on my bed and started reading carefully in her voice.

Hi gurl,

Just found out what happened from one of my ambassadors.

I rolled my eyes immediately.

"Of course her gossip ambassadors," I whispered before continuing.

I already told Andrew what happened to you and I will also tell him the story about the school.

But let me start with how I found out about everything.

When I first resumed at this school, I overheard a teacher telling the story to other teachers about the beginning of the school. According to him, he was related to the founders that was why he had so much knowledge. The man, Mr. Jacklin the unnesseciarly weird man. I don't know if you remember him. He is tall, probably over 6 feet, he is extremely slim that you would want to offer him milk on the first day of meeting him. His skin is brown and his eyes balls are black and super attractive.

Ofcourse her description of people were so good that there is never a second guess.

Well, Mr. Jackin said John , the man who called himself a saint initially started the school with his brother Caleb, not blood brothers by the way. The founder..... John who was worse than evil had a little room, there in the founder's building where he teaches some set of student who were believed to be vagabond, possessed with evil spirit or children whose parents got sick of them.

While Caleb was the one in charge of the normal schooling. John manipulated everything for money and control and Caleb was so sick of him. Their fight was so intense that most thought it would lead to the death of the other. After that, a student's body was found in one of the rooms in the founders building. She was John's student. Caleb accused John while he accused Caleb. Due to the fact that John was drunk when the situation happened, he took the fall for everything.

But here is the funny part, there was a letter that was found beside the girl. The writer, unknown. The same issue kept re-occuring until,

The community became angry.

People demanded justice.

And eventually… John was killed.

Now, Jane this is the problem, the story might not be as true as we think it is, also, the culprit today knows this story more than we do. That is why the letters are being used again.

History helps us trace the source of a problem so we can destroy it. Now we know where the problem started… but honestly? I still don't know how to stop it. Was it John, was it Caleb family or a third wheel nobody knows about?

Then my eyes landed on the final part.

Also, Nafisat received another letter.

She has fifty hours left.

My heart nearly stopped.

For now, if I want to reach you, it will be through the light bulb.

If you want to reply, do the same.

Your goddess,

Queen Vivian.

I slowly lowered the paper.

The room suddenly felt quieter than before.

Was she actually serious about using the socket? MY thought echoed.

For a moment, I almost laughed again. Vivian was insane enough to come up with something like that but after everything that had happened these past few days, nothing felt impossible anymore.

After reading her letter, I quickly searched around the room for something to write with. My hands moved quickly through the small drawer beside the bed, pushing aside old books and a cracked ruler until I finally found a blue pen and a slightly rough sheet of paper.

I sat down immediately.

For a moment, I just stared at the blank page, thinking about everything Vivian had written. No matter how dramatic and ridiculous she acted most of the time, one thing was certain, she always showed up when it mattered and she is good at her job.

I lowered the pen and began to write.

Vivian,

I read your letter.

Thank you very much for showing up for me. I don't even know what to think anymore, but I'm grateful you told me.

If you can, find out the truth about what really happened to Emma, it might be related. And please try not to do anything reckless while trying to investigate this situation.

Also take care of Nafisat and Andrew, especially Nafisat. Fifty hours is not enough time for anyone to live peacefully. Help her not to freak out like she normally does.

And Vivian… be careful too.

I stopped writing for a second before adding one final line.

Your not-so-goddess friend,

Jane.

A small smile appeared on my face.

I folded the paper carefully and stood up from the bed. Dragging the wooden chair across the floor quietly, I positioned it beneath the bulb socket.

The chair shook slightly making a weird sound like it was about to break as I climbed on it. However. just as I stretched my hand toward the socket,

The door suddenly opened.

I nearly lost my balance.

The Principal stood at the entrance.

"Please knock," I said immediately, pressing the folded paper against my palm before he could notice it.

"Oh…...my apologies, Jane," he said quickly. "I should have knocked first."

My heart was still racing from the scare.

"What is it?" I asked carefully.

"We will talk when you come down. Hope you are not attempting to unalive yourself."

"No sir. Most people that do, few minutes before they are gone regrets it.

"I will be with you in a bit, sir." I added smiling.

He hesitated for a moment before finally nodding.

"Alright then."

The door closed again.

"This is so ridiculous," I muttered under my breath.

I exhaled deeply.

My heart was beating so fast it almost hurt. I was so scared that my only way to speak with the outside world was cut short. I quickly unscrewed the socket cover with shaky fingers and pushed the folded letter inside carefully. After making sure it was hidden properly, I fixed it back into place. Then I climbed down from the chair slowly.

For a second, I just stood there staring at the bulb above me.

Still.
