Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"Ring... ring..."

The morning alarm clock rang relentlessly, its shrill cry filling the bedroom. Sunlight filtered through the gaps in the curtains, lazily illuminating the room and reminding its occupant that the hour was no longer early.

The girl on the bed flicked her eyelashes. After a moment of struggle, she forced her eyes open, squinting against the harsh glare of the sun.

Fujimasa March scratched her messy hair and stretched before climbing out of bed.

'My head feels heavy... I must be sleep deprived. We definitely stayed out too late last night.'

Memories of the previous evening flooded back. To see Oguri Cap off, she had joined Bravo Light and their Trainer for a celebratory farewell banquet.

Perhaps sensing that they wouldn't see each other for a long time, everyone had let loose. The revelry had been wild and loud, lasting deep into the night.

Fujimasa March gazed out at the clear blue sky, her mind drifting.

'Oguri should be on her way to Central by now. I hope her races there go smoothly.'

Her thoughts shifted. A certain figure flashed through her mind, and her gaze instantly sharpened with competitive fire.

"Of course, I'll be working hard too!"

After getting dressed, Fujimasa March headed toward the school building. She scanned her surroundings along the way, but as expected, there was no sign of the gray-coated Uma Musume.

With a heavy heart, she wandered into the meeting room.

The meeting room served as a hub where the Trainer and Uma Musume held meetings or rested after training. In reality, it functioned much like a clubroom.

A white whiteboard stood in the center of the room. In front of it sat a conference table surrounded by neatly arranged chairs. Various items were stacked in the corners with organized precision. It was clear the room had been meticulously cleaned.

Fujimasa March saw Yuzuki sitting at the table, scribbling notes on a document.

"Good morning, Fujimasa. You are five minutes late today."

Yuzuki set down his pen and looked up to greet the girl.

"Trainer, I've kept you waiting! I'm so sorry, I got delayed on the way!"

Seeing Yuzuki already waiting, Fujimasa March felt a wave of embarrassment and bowed repeatedly in apology.

Yuzuki looked at her helplessly. "Alright, alright. Just don't be late again. If there's something urgent, just let me know in advance."

Several days had passed since the Golden Junior Cup. During this time, Yuzuki had been incredibly busy.

Because Shibazaki's decision had been so sudden, Yuzuki had been caught unprepared. He had to handle the transfer paperwork, the growth training plan, the race schedule, and future career mapping for Fujimasa March.

He had even spent the last few days haggling with the principal of Kasamatsu Academy over the transfer.

While the bond between an Uma Musume and a Trainer wasn't legally binding and a transfer could happen if both parties agreed, Fujimasa March was one of the few elite girls left at Kasamatsu Tracen Academy after Oguri Cap's departure.

An academy's reputation and influence were tied to the achievements of its Uma Musume. Powerful girls attracted more spectators and tourists to the region, directly increasing revenue and promoting the local economy.

Given these stakes, it hadn't been easy for Yuzuki, a mere rookie assistant, to successfully sign Fujimasa March. However, through the combined efforts of Shibazaki and Yuzuki, the process was finally complete.

"So, Trainer, what is my training plan for today?" Fujimasa March asked, unable to contain her curiosity as she watched Yuzuki lost in thought.

"Don't be in such a hurry to train, Fujimasa. First, I need to re-test your running data."

Although Yuzuki had received files on her from Shibazaki, she was the first Uma Musume he was personally responsible for. Driven by his habit of scientific rigor, he decided to conduct a more detailed evaluation.

The walk from the meeting room to the training grounds took less than fifteen minutes. The testing began immediately.

As the scenery blurred past, Fujimasa March sprinted across the sand in her athletic gear. The dull thud of her racing shoes hitting the ground echoed rhythmically.

Yuzuki held his notebook, recording observations with clinical precision.

If Yuzuki had one major advantage in this world, it was the scientific training methods and the knowledge system from his previous life.

Unlike the records of an ordinary Trainer, Yuzuki used his modern concepts to do more than just test her speed and aptitude. He summarized her physical condition, breathing, and posture issues in detail. He even included professional indicators like heart rate and oxygen intake.

He could perceive the unnaturalness and lack of coordination in an Uma Musume's form more clearly than others.

Yuzuki was a runner himself. Two lifetimes of running had forged an unparalleled awareness within him. The sensation of the run was etched into his very bones. He could tell at a single glance whether Fujimasa March was running correctly.

Even though he had given her tips while acting as an assistant, it was impossible to correct these deep-seated issues without specialized, systematic training.

But now that he was her official Trainer, he intended to break her down and rebuild her from the ground up... a rebirth through fire.

Could these theories really be applied to an Uma Musume?

Well...

Yuzuki didn't know how an Uma Musume could reach speeds of sixty kilometers per hour with a human body structure...

However, since they possessed a physical structure similar to humans, these scientific theories had to be applicable.

The specific details would require constant experimentation and refinement. After all, science required innovation and progress.

Looking at his notes, Yuzuki felt a pang of regret. Limited by the environment and equipment, he couldn't collect much of the data he needed. Those metrics required advanced technology.

'If only I could buy a sports watch or a heart rate monitor here.'

But that was wishful thinking. Kasamatsu didn't even have a basic gym treadmill, let alone high-tech gear. He couldn't even find a proper slope course for training.

Yuzuki had searched online and was shocked to find that such items weren't sold anywhere in Japan. It was hard to imagine that in a world where Uma Musume sports were so popular, there were no specialized sports watches. Were the Uma Musume Association and the scholars of this country just sitting around doing nothing?

He didn't lose heart. If Japan didn't have them, it didn't mean other countries were the same. Yuzuki believed the European and American racing worlds surely had relevant equipment, even if it hadn't become widespread yet.

His reasoning was simple... the development of Uma Musume training in Europe and America was more advanced than in Japan, and their technological levels were higher.

No matter how slow the progress, applying science to Uma Musume to improve training efficiency and race results was inevitable. For example, the performance-enhancing drugs used in races...

Well, that was science too, even if the application was a bit skewed.

Whether for his own sake or for Fujimasa March's future, Yuzuki planned to look into what was happening overseas.
